I just received a ATOTO F7 XE 8 inch Single-DIN & Double-DIN Car Stereo for fathers day and going crazy trying to figure out what I need for my 2005 Prius with JBL amplifier. I see your recommendations in the description for a prius with JBL amplifier. But I’m still confused as to what I need exactly. Question 1. The Metra TYTO-01 JBL Amplifier Interface Harness shows as NOT fitting a 2005 Prius on Amazon. Is this incorrect?

Your instructions really help! Overall we’ve only ran into one problem. When using a JBL amplified model, just took a bit more focus and thinking about what goes where. The problem: at 7:16 you mention an adaptor for the SWC, which I don’t know where to get an adaptor or why we need it. I understand connecting the red and black wires to the jbl adaptor interface, but once we’ve done that we’re unsure what to do with the Jack, brown wire, and brown/white wire for the SWC harness. Thanks again hope that this isn’t too complex of a question!

The 7:16 adapter is the female 3.5mm to two brown wire plug that is included with the Axxess ASWC-1 steering wheel control package. This is meant to convert the 3.5mm steering wheel control signal wire to your radio, into a "Key 1 and Key 2" connection for brands that don't have that specific port. The radio we used is an off-brand radio, doesn't have the 3.5mm wired remote input for steering wheel controls, so that small adapter was needed. If your radio has the wired remote input, that brown wired adapter isn't needed.

For added reliability, it's best to add some 22g or similar stranded wire to that resistor and heat shrink the assembly to keep the strain off the resistor leads, then attach the resistor/lead wire assembly to the harness. That allows you to stagger the length and make the resistor lay down in the harness.

Love this video. Can I just ignore installing the *Metra harness adapter & *Axxess ASWC-1 SWC module if I don't with to retain sterling radio controls? Will my other steering wheel buttons that control the HVAC system still work? I'm wanting to save the $ on the Axxess switch as I don't use the buttons for volume and radio control. Thanks for your help! I'm realizing the radio is a key part of the Prius system and the car actually doesn't work without a functioning radio.

In the dash din kit that is linked above, the reviews are saying there is not a 68ohm resistor included. What 68ohm resistant watt is required? Some saying 1/2 watt? And does it matter which end of the resister goes to white/pink wire?

That resistor is VERY easy to miss in the packaging, and most people accidentally throw it out. For each prius i've installed radios in, it's always been there, but the difference is i'm watching for it. Yes it is a 68 ohm resistor, and 1/2 watt is fine. It's omnidirectional, so any end will do.

The Resistor comes in the the dash kit linked in the description of the video. Metra includes it with the install kit, it's small, and can easily be missed.

I am curious about something that maybe you can help with? I have the same radio as is shown there. I do not believe it is JBL. All I really want is the ability to use Bluetooth. Can I just get the OEM radio from a model with the Aux feature (which are available), connect a cable up to that aux output, and then connect that to a Bluetooth? If so, any idea the cable I need?

Thankyou for the video just had one question. I’m doing the same install on the same year Prius. The 2 brown wire adapter is what I’m trying to figure out. If I understand correctly the brown wire goes to the grey steering wheel control input 1 and the brown/white wire goes to the green steering wheel control input 2. What I couldn’t understand was what you did with the ground wire and the other wires on that part of the radio harness that has the camera pickup and brake detection.

Hi, thanks for the video! I got the Boss unit, which has a Parking Brake Wire. I'm having trouble figuring out where to connect this wire, like where do I find this parking brake wire to connect it to. Any idea where I can find this wire? It seems like you may be able to do /a parking brake bypass as an alternative. Can I do that by just connecting the parking brake wire from the Boss unit to the ground wire on the harness (or does it have to be a separate ground?)

Yes you will need the TYTO harness if you have JBL. The two links after the TYTO harness is for steering wheel volume controls. If you dont have steering wheel volume controls, those links are not needed. If you do, and want to retain them with the new radio, they are required.

You will need the harness, especially if you have JBL. Without it your amp will not work with your new radio.

Thanks for the video! I used a different SJoyBring radio and had to swap the SWC-1 and 2 wires to get the steering controls to work. My up/down arrows aren't recognized by the radio, but the Mode and volume control is working.

It depends on the radio you are installing - if it is a no-name brand (Like we are), you will need to go into the radio's SWC setting and manually program the buttons as they wont be automatic at the radio level. If you are installing a brand name unit, no further action is required as it programs automatically.

i have a question. I have the JBL version and was able to get everything connected but now I have an issue with the sound being really low both on the radio and when connecting a phone through the USB port. In fact, the phone through the USB port is lower than the radio. I checked the phone setting and it is not in the phone so I am thinking I needed another harness or something else for the factory amplifier, any thoughts/suggestions?

At the eight minute mark on your video, you do not explain how the small harness with the white plug is wired to the steering wheel control. Can you provide some clarification? Thanks!

The small white plug is the Metra 70-8114, and it's a plug and play harness that is meant to retain your factory aux and main connection for steering wheel volume controls. The other end of the white plug connects into the Access ASWC-1 steering wheel control interface. All that harness needs (in terms of manual wiring connections) is power and ground (red and black wire respectively) which just needs to be connected into the main radio harnesses red and black wires, just to snag power from your main radio harness adapter to power the ASWC-1.

My 2005 is totally different than what yours has, mine only has two harness cables behind the radio although yours have three cables Can you clarify please?

You may not have steering wheel volume controls, which is why you only have two, or alternatively, you may have factory JBL, and have the main harness and secondary steering wheel control harness. Just depends on your trim!

So I just installed a new aftermarket head unit, everything went well, it works perfectly fine, I plugged everything back in and even double checked and when I turn on the car, the red triangle pops up with a red car on the original screen. Will that go away or did I mess up somewhere?

You’ve left out very much needed information. The radio had a small harness with a white plug. You neglected to show how you hooked that up. It all the sudden was hooked up with 0 explanation on which wire goes where.

Radios significantly vary based on brand, and model. That small harness included wiring they wasn’t in the main harness of the radio. With this very specific radio, the small white harness includes the reverse wire, parking brake wire, front camera power, and your steering wheel control key 1 and 2 wires. That can completely change if going with any other radio on the market.
