My 04’ Type-s only has about 62k miles on it. It’s been my daily driver for over 10 years and low miles because I’ve always lived so close to work. Pretty much stock except for full exhaust. Had a 2004 RSX Type S and I absolutely adored it. The gearbox was a thing of joy and the lack of torque just meant more fun rowing the gears. If a dealer called me up today and said they found an unsold, new 2007 at the back of their lot, I'd buy it no questions asked.

I currently have an 03 type S, in the arctic blue pearl. bought it brand new with 3 miles on it. today it now has almost 158k miles on it. It still drives like the day i bought it. love this car, yes it has a rough ride, but it's fun to drive, esp on winding roads. it also still gets looks of envy, and all my friends drool over it. best car i've ever bought so far, it will last forever

Kristian Svalland I totally Agree! I too own an 03 Type S Nighthawk Black Pearl w/ 147K for now. I get plenty of offers from people willing to buy my car. I will NOT! When I purchase a new car, my Type S will be a garage queen and I will bring it as close to original parts but with some better/reliable than stock parts. I might have to upgrade the leather, better CAI(maybe a Comptech Icebox) I have an old Injen CAI, Mugen SS suspension, etc. The market value for these cars are still noteworthy. Integra GSRs are still worth 8-10K. DC2 type Rs are up to 30-40K! Keep your Type S clean and reasonably stock and it will be still worth something.

I hate how everyone complains that the K24 doesnt sound good. Back before Honda introduced the 2.4 K24 to Si, everyone complained that the K20 did not have enough torque, the K24 brought 30+ pound feet of torque vs the K20. Now everyone is complaining that the K24 doesnt sound good and everyone says that Honda doesnt seem to care about what the enthusiasts want. Honda does, they knew that the K20 didnt have enough torque, and now that the K24 does, everyone is still complaining. And honestly, you can still hear the VTEC kick in the K24, but some people are really deaf.
@TheRyanmanVideos9 жыл бұрын
***** yeah. however, stock, the k24 is SOOO quiet. it reminds me of a new camry or altima. And also, vtec engages, and if you have mods, you can definitely hear it, but having vtec at 6k rpms, when you can only rev up to 7k, makes vtec way less fun. You are basically in vtec for half a second. A lot less fun imo, but having more lower end torque is better, I guess.
@zuhayrali42029 жыл бұрын
***** I think that Honda is not putting the 8k redline because the VTEC powerband won't last as long then and all the car will do then is rev away the engine not moving anywhere. Honda had VTEC activiate 1k rpm lower so then the powerband will be smoothed out. I don't think that having an 8k redline and vtec kicking at 5k isnt a good idea. Honda has addressed a lot of the issues with the 8th gen. But don't forget, the Type-R is coming to the states. They already put it around the nurburgring. Search up the video. It went round in 7:50 seconds! Thats amazing for a Honda. In the 7 minute range, there is the GTR, LFA, BMWS, Ferrari's, Porsche's, and many other sports/super car manufacturers in that range.
@TassieLorenzo9 жыл бұрын
***** It's not relevant any more... The new versions of Si and Type R will have K20 based turbo engines, that only rev to 7000... :) Type R will have at least the 305 bhp of the new Euro Type R... I guess the SI will have less, maybe around 250-270 hp. :)
@zuhayrali42029 жыл бұрын
TassieLorenzo Who knows, maybe they Si won't be boosted. Honda hasn't said anything about the K20C1 the new Type-R engine, about adding it to the Si, in fact there hasn't be anything announced for the Si, just the normal Civic with the extremely low emission engine. I doubt they will boost the Si and rather they will build an engine that was built just like an S2000 making it have more HP than like the current K24Z7 engine producing 205 HP. My guess, the new Si will have 240 HP containing the F22 engine, or they build a completely new Si engine NA with anywhere from 210 HP - 250 HP. If Honda can acheive 240 HP NA out of 2.2L, then they can easily get 240 HP out of 2.4L

Previous owner of a 2002 RSX Type-S for 10 years. Switched it out in 2012 for a 2013 Ford Focus ST (which I'm still driving) because, well, I have two kids and I needed a car with 4 doors! I miss my Type-S with the sweet K20A2 really badly; you never forget your first. Two things really rubbed me the wrong way on this car: 1) The shifting was by NO MEANS smooth. 2nd-3rd notchiness was a BIG bummer and the cause of many missed-shifts. 2) Unfortunately, I have to disagree with your characterization re handling, especially regarding rear-end rotation. While I would agree the front end did exactly what you wanted. But the rear end had a vague, unsettled feel to it, especially over sweeping high-speed turns, highway exits, and high-speed lane changes.

I only just caught this review, but, I have to comment on your "just like the Civic" comments, I used to own an '03 Honda Civic Si (5M - the only way it came), and, when I got into what I thought was a small accident, but, totaled it, I found a stock '02 Acura RSX (5M base) that had been babied. (I owned the Civic from new, got the RSX in 2012). I don't know what Honda (Acura/Honda same thing) did to the RSX, but, the same engine (RSX base/'02-'05 Si K20A3) sounds smoother than in the Civic Si, also the Type S has a different sound than the Civic (K20A2 - what you drove). (Possibly different exhaust systems, fine tuning). To me, after driving both cars, I have to say that there are many minor differences, enough to say that the RSX was more obviously built for performance, for the driver, over the Civic, and yes, the handling is where I like it to be (I like centrifugal force and to get to speed quickly, but, not a speeder.). Also, at the time, while you could get leather in the Acura, you could not in the Honda, the '02-'05 Si came only with "suede" seats. The only thing that does not makes sense about the RSX is that Honda left out LSD, while the Si got it. I agree, the steering is tight, and it's just all-around more of a driver's car than most on the road today. I still love it, and I've driven lots of new (toyotas) and used (varied) cars for dealer trades for the last 5 years, but, when I get in my car, with the exception of a couple used Audi's I drove, I always prefer the way my RSX drives over all the rest. Most cars today feel disconnected.
@Light23K6 жыл бұрын
I sold mines in 2012, I had it since 2002. I was really pissed at the shifter getting sucked trying to get to 3rd gear every freaking day. I went to the dealer many times and they say they can't duplicate the problem. And the leather suck too. The stitches came off and theres a hole. I love my RSX type s but the shifter not shifting to 3rd gear was the reason I got rid of it and got a 2013 Infiniti fx37. I will be returning to Acura in the form of the 2020 Acura RDX Type S.
@christmaschris4872 жыл бұрын
Also, 2:14 something never talked about but the steering wheel is small and offset to the left of the driver allowing left hand to soundly control the wheel and right hand to hold and rest on the stick shifter. And very, very comfortable position while hitting turns and shifting.

I have a 2005 RSX base with 101k on the clock...a really nice daily driver. The K20 motor, even in base mode, is bullet proof, and the simple dash layout would be applauded by Soichiro Honda....designed for drivers and harkens back to the days of Ayrton Senna in F1.

I like your reviews but why most of them have to be Acura/Honda. Why not Lexus/Toyota, Infiniti/Nissan, Subaru, BMW, or Mitsubishi?

I had an 02 Type S as my first car, kinda miss it sometimes. It had 169,000 miles on it and still ran like a champ. The insurance was outrageous since I was 16 and it was classified as a "sports coupe". Still don't know if I would ever buy one again someday, I'm back into my families american muscle roots.

A car that should have never gotten the boot. I hope it comes back. The RSX was a hot coupe and it's what they are missing.

Wow that is in great condition! Great review!

I love how you compare this RSX to modern cars (sarcasm). Of COURSE modern cars will be better in EVERY aspect! No need to rip this RSX a new one considering it came out in late 2001... Also, it's actually a bit quicker to 60 than 6.8 seconds.

love the reviews. any chance you'll test drive somewhere other than in a forest? i always feel claustrophobic when you're revving out between all the trees.

Get an Intake and full header/exhaust for a better power curve. Hondata K pro help too, you can lower the VTEC engagement.

Mine is a 03' base manual with 55k miles on it. Completely stock, was so happy when I found her going to take her to 200k miles hopefully :) However, I've never rev'd it out past 5,000 so I don't know the vtec sensation haha. It doesn't feel right pushing it.

Riley Nelson I have an 03 Type-S manual (only way the Type-S came) and it now has around 158k miles on it... I've pushed it to red line from the day i bought it (I bought it brand new, with just 3 miles on it), and it's perfectly fine. the engine can easily handle it. The engine is very durable, just treat it to regular oil changes (I switched mine to synthetic at it's very first oil change) and good gas and the car will last for ever
@NshepMAx99 жыл бұрын
Riley Nelson I bought an '02 Base with 108K miles and I've put about 40K on it now. Some days I drive it easy others I drive it to the redline. I've never seen any problems from any part of the car. There is no doubt you can get 200K out of these cars.
@TassieLorenzo9 жыл бұрын
Riley Nelson Type S? Pushing it to the redline is the whole point. Above 6000rpm is where the engine lives quite happily. :) Other cars are so fast (Mustang GT etc) that you can't push them to the limit on public roads --- that's where the joy in the RSX or a Civic SI is. :) Slow enough that you can push it, but fast enough to be very close to keeping up with a lot of the other turbo hot hatches and things.

I-vtec is constantly changing the timing. There is no "vtec" engagement because the timing is changing gradually with rpm increase to provide more even power curve rather than the 6,000 rpm engagement as you said. The rsx is built alongside with the civic. I guess you could say they are sister cars. Every piece looks like an em2 that has been tweaked. That is why it feels like a "civic."
@gregson999 жыл бұрын
+1969chevyz28 you can hear vtec crossover. The engine noise changes dramatically.
@mackcummy49764 жыл бұрын
Actually, the RSX chassis was built for teh RSX first, then the 7th generation Civic was built on it too.

Any difference between this car's engine and the Civic Si 8th's engine, K20A2 vs K20Z3, aside from the 3 lb·ft difference in torque?
@tugboat_actual10 жыл бұрын
the motor in the 04 rsx and the 8th gen si are not the same, the k20z3 (8th gen) was more refined, with more electronic features, and higher compression
