Depending on the year the president 04 05 northstar where as reliable but after 04 those issues were solved

Shady reliability...only because people bought the Northstars and ran the shit out of them instead of taking care of them like a respectable Caddy owner would. I still see a ton of them daily, which is another reason why I take the Northstar reliability claims with a grain of salt. If you treat your car right, she will treat you right in return.

@@hakeemsd70m The 97-99 models had a nasty head gasket fault that should have been recalled. This was sorta fixed in 2000 with larger head bolts, and further fixed past 02 - and fixed completely in 05. The head gaskets would blow, but only if the engine overheated. Use good synthetic, change oil every 3-5k miles, and keep an eye on your coolant levels. If they start dropping it means you're leaking, and in that case simply use some Kseal and you should be good

Forgot to say, if the kseal doesn't work you may need to bring it in to fix the leak. This is nowhere near how much it would cost to fix the head gaskets/head bolts, which cost 4 grand or so. This is why these cars you can often find for only 2-3k. But you can prevent this from happening if you pay attention and take care of the car. However, this problem is so prominent in the 97-99 models that I'd honestly avoid these models entirely.
