2004 Dodge Neon SRT4 Feature | Gears and Gasoline

Big thanks to Lexi for giving us the opportunity to drive her 2004 Neon SRT4. This SRT was a first for both of us, and the little 2.4 liter turbo didn't disappoint. For a car that's become this cheap, you really can't get more speed for the money short of a sport bike.

awesome ride, these are some amazing cars, what ii find even more amazing is that they released in 03- and here it is 2016 and you still see a lot of them in great shape...dodge got it right, if you're too stuck up on "its a neon" thing i cant possibly respect you as a true car enthusiast. The car performs , sounds amazing and looks great. its truly a unique car, and there's nothing quite like it.

There's a simple explanation for this. Your WRX weighs anywhere between 300-500 pounds more than an srt4 neon. When the power is so close, power:weight really matters

JazN N-Me Pretty sure it is. I've never seen an Evo has less than 3 rebuilt motors. All they do is blow up. But I'm Mitsubishi has already blamed someone else on why they had no budget to make such a car.

1998 Evo 5 RS pushing 270awkw/360awhp on e85 with drop in cams an a TME stock turbo for 3 years an Never blew up i also Tracked it an went on lots of Spirited Drives. even when i rebuilt it.. the motor was still in Good shape,, Maybe the people you got the Evo off treated it badly since its a ( rally famed car ) people like to go out an thrash them, an rev right out passed the stock turbos ability to the point of damage, its like any car its how its treated before you get it, See plenty of 8/8mr/9 Engines Pushing 300-340awkw/400-450awhp+ Daily basis On stock bottom ends e85 or eflex with 20G upgraded turbos/cams, Stock drivelines/gearbox's an dont see many problems with them other then Standard parts wear an tearing or when applying way to much power for a 10+ year old car you are expecting problems it was built pre date not todays date dont expect too much from something that old forever ;)

Either car would be fine, but the honda would probably be more reliable. (But it all comes down to how well the car was previously maintained)

The SRT will get you into trouble. The Civic will be more refined, will hold a better resale value (if you care for that type of thing), the interior quality will be a few steps up. That being said, the SRT will put a smile on your face every time you floor it. It's sound is intoxicating and almost no other car sounds the exact same way. If speed and horsepower is where you want it- the Neon will deliver in bounds. Buy larger injectors, switch to E85 fuel and give it a good tune- and you'll be close to 350hp/tq to the wheels. The Neon loves modifications- if that's your thing. If not- then I'd say go with the Civic. Especially for a daily. I've had 3 in the past- and I still miss them (hence why I'm watching videos).

+Balto D tough decisions ... My brother barely got a 14 si and I don't want to have an si as well since a lot of people have Hondas. Plus I love the model of the srt4 more than the si but I want something reliable but fast as well since I have my daughter.

+Arturo Flores They are both reliable if maintained properly the srt4 will be kinda pricey on insurance but has a little more backseat space and a larger trunk. If its speed your looking for the si wont even come close. Even the fastest stock si is much slower. Most srt4s youll find are either big turbo or with a few mods. If its big turbo your talking anywhere from 350whp to 600whp depending on what it is.

I never paid this car any attention because I was a huge subaru fanboy and they also just aren't common in my area. I started a new job and a coworker has one and I got kind of interested. Then when I noticed all the STIs around me were insanely overpriced and all the WRXs around me were trashed, I looked into these. I was blown away by how cheap people sell these with built motors or full bolt ons etc.

The limiter goes to 160. Weight reduction and drag efficiency and a tune gets higher speeds. World record for SRT4 top speed is 224mph. It is actually world record for ANY 4 cylinder car

There's something to be said for these boosted neons. I once test drove an ACR. They're legit sleepers. Best bang for your buck. I love these cars and i have owned 2 in the past. I am like everyone else, if you owned it you regret having sold it. Now you can buy them for around 10 to 13k the problem is finding one that has not been molested with lower miles....good luck. I am searching....

+Sam Jacobson It is really hard to find 100% stock. I got super lucky and found one with 98,000 miles for $5000 last year. They are fun little cars and I agree with the ending statement about it being a perfect car for a low-budget introduction to the car world. I have learned so much about cars since buying mine.

Sam Jacobson Yeah, they don't come with mufflers. Mufflers don't have anything to do with emissions though, (they just reduce noise). SRT-4's still have catalytic converters so emissions are not a problem. I read online about a guy who got a ticket for noise ordinance on the stock exhaust but he fought it in court and won haha.

+Bournefort Let's say I got an SRT4. If you Google 'Oregon Exhaust law' (state I live in) the first thing in the search is a PDF file of a list of automobile laws. Download it and down on page 2 it'll talk about the required laws of the exhaust. Would I be fine with it?

Sam Jacobson It says 91 decibels is the legal limit but I have no idea how loud the stock exhaust is. I mean, the exhaust is loud, but not to the point where everybody looks at you. I have heard Honda ricers with waaay louder/higher pitched exhaust than my SRT4. Honestly though, I doubt a police officer would ever pull you over for exhaust noise. Unless you are consistently getting on their nerves by driving like an idiot every day lol. My srt4 is my first car. Stock turbo, full bolt ons and a diablosport running 22psi. Was actually supposed to buy an Sti or evo instead but wound up with the srt4. I don't regret it the slightest bit
