I've owned a 250 Rally, but sold it and got an Africa Twin 1100. I still miss the little Rally, brilliant bike despite its limitations. I'm also currently doing a full resto on an 02 KTM 640 LC4, gotta say I love Honda engineering. They just build things better by design. The big old Kato is a bit of a nightmare by comparison.

I put my transmission gears back in and put the two cases back together but the gears aren’t spinning when I try to spin them, do I need to go back in and make sure everything is straight.

Can you the the cases sand blasted?

I’m exactly at this point with my build. Should I be able to turn the crankshaft freely at this point? The only way I can turn it is by using a wrench on one of the gear nuts we tightened near where u put the water pump washer in. Even when I do that it sounds like something is rubbing inside.
@mcdmn7178 ай бұрын
I have the clutch all installed but no clutch plates in it, and made sure it’s in neutral also. I do have all the gears so that’s a plus at least 🤣
@northernmx59738 ай бұрын
Definitely hard to say. Brand new seals can cause resistance while turning but if you think something is rubbing probably best to resplit the cases and check everything out
@mcdmn7178 ай бұрын
Ok got it. It’s probably seals I’m thinking but I’ll loosen a couple bolts around the case and see if it goes away before I split it. Thanks Northern!

Hi. Is there any play on the crankshaft? In my 2015 CRF 250, I feel slight play along the sides and slightly up and down. Is this how it's supposed to be?
@northernmx59733 ай бұрын
@@nr.1289 a little side to side play is normal but there should be zero up and down play at all so you’re probably going to have to replace it

can I ask the size of water pump water seal and oil seal?

What’s the torque spec for the bolts holding the cases together? On 12-26 of the manual it says to tighten the bolts in a cross pattern in 2-3 progressive steps then says to install a new washer and drain bolt and torque to 16ftlb but doesn’t say anything about the bolts holding the cases together even though they are listed in the same step/section.
@northernmx5973 Жыл бұрын
You can usually tighten the case bolts anywhere from 7-10 ft lbs

So what'd you do to clean up the case from the bearing damage?
@northernmx5973 Жыл бұрын
It was minor so I just used a die grinder with a flapper wheel on it
@Sauce_Is_Here Жыл бұрын
@northernmx5973 same thing happened to a bike I picked up. Would you tell me if it worth trying to fix? I can send some images

I have some gauges on my case too but it’s not too bad I just didn’t know if that needed to be completely smooth for the crank to ride on
