I researched the maintenance/repair history of about 6 '04-'06 LS430. Each one had an amazing history of mechanical and electrical failures beginning in a couple years of service. I saw starter, fuel pump, valve springs, lash adjusters. they all had door lock actuator failures. Multiple times on some. And brakes? Don't expect more than 30k on brake pads at the very most. And the super expensive intermediate exhaust piece failed often. A CD deck failed on a car barely a few years old. Trunk lid motors failed, or needed to be re-timed, or the lid would not latch. Hood release cables corroded and failed. And these were cars receiving regular service at Lexus dealers. Some of this can be due to location in snow/salt States like IL and WI. But the number of breakdowns were amazing. And Lexus parts are very expensive. I went from interested, to "No way". I'm sure these are great to drive, but be prepared to spend a lot more than the price tag.

I have driven every Lexus model since 1990 and this is the best one. No I haven't driven the supercar one that costs $400,000, but I have driven all the rest. I recently purchased a 2006 LS430 Ultra Luxury with only 74,000 miles. It is the same color as the one in this video, it also has the ecru interior color and birds eye maple. My car has every bell and whistle available at the time and everything works perfectly. Simply amazing. Radar Cruise control, Pre Collision System, Rear Refrigerator, Power Reclining and Massaging Heating and Cooling Rear Seats. The Ultra even has more leather on the dash and the doors and higher quality leather. I have had extended time behind the wheel of the LS500. It is much sportier than my car but it is not as luxurious and comfortable. I have the air suspension and it is so smooth. The LS500 doesn't even come close to the ride of my car. I have driven the LS500 with the air suspension, and it is much better but it still can't touch the ride of the LS430 with air suspension.

Hands down this is the greatest car ever made. Outside of maintenance in 18 years this vehicle has had nothing done to it. Like you said it is thee smoothest driving car of all-time. The leather seats I would argue are the greatest leather seats of all-time too. The one thing I did do was removed the gps computer and replaced it with a Rhinos Radio which has Carplay and Android Auto built in. It was completely worth the $600. I hope to drive this vehicle another 200,000 miles and I am confident that 4.3L V8 and 6-speed auto will make it.

@@ITm4n My LS has now 248k on it. I had a small coolant leak underneath the intake manifold that i took care of. While I was in there I removed the starter and had it freshened up by the local starter repair shop. Ive also replaced every suspension part up front and almost everything in the rear minus one of the arms and upper control arms (was chasing down a noise and decided to replace a few parts to cover my basis). When you go look at the car. Make sure you shine a flash light under the intake manifold to see if theirs any signs of red coolant leak. Look at the oil on the dipstick to make sure shes all clean. If you feel or hear any suspension noises ( especially in the rust belt states ) just assume that you will have to cut some bolts out as they might be seized inside the bushings. More then likely itll be the bolts that adjust camber and what not. Also please make sure that the timing belt and components have been replaced. You can remove the top plastic cover from the engine. And remove the 3 or 4 bolts from the cam gear cover to check out the timing belt condition. If its cracked be careful. or if it looks a little glossy, assume you will have to tackle that aswell. Theirs a good video on KZbin of this being done and its easy in mu opinion. All of these repairs were worth it for me as i did everything my self and gpt this car riding like it should. Should be good for a good while now. I know all of this sounds lke a lot. But this is how these cars can last 500k+ miles. Take care of it and itll take care of you. Cheers.

I used to own a 2004 LS430 it’s been giving me nothing but problems, had to replace the valve cover gaskets at 120k miles due to oil leakage. All the struts/control arms had to be replaced the handling was terrible. The mark levinson amplifier went out and the cheapest repair cost me $500. The head unit kept malfunctioning with messages such as “check system” or “the external system not connected”. I also had problems with the power window controls, every time I’d roll down the passenger window it wouldn’t shut back and took at least 5 tries to get it closed all the way it would stop halfway. I also had to replace engine mounts the dipstick tube (leaking oil) charcoal canister sensor (vsc light). To say “this is the most reliable ever” would be an overstatement. Have owned this car (same year model) since March. I've gone and done the big bucks preventative maintenance.. timing belt and a whole lot of internal engine components, and also done the rest of the lot (suspension stuff, tires, brakes etc.) Can't see myself selling this car, I'll be quite honest.. I already know I'm going to have immediate sellers remorse if I did ever do go down that route. This car is one of a kind. The admiration this car has is totally deserved.

If I had more dough, I’d get an LS400, LS430, GS400, is300, IS350 and a GX470. That’s my Lexus dream team! I’ve had an LS400 and two GX470s. All reliable great vehicles. Currently on a Mazda kick (who knew they handled so great? I didn’t.... impressed) but will always have a soft spot for Lexus, my original “aspirational car” back in England in the 90’s growing up. When I moved to LA in 2000 I couldn’t beleive how common Lexus were! Kind of a rare breed in the uk, or used to be back in the day.

You have to take into account how well the car was maintained with age. There isn’t supposed to be slop in the steering at all. There must be some worn bushing. I have an 04 and it’s as solid as can be. The slightest input turns the car.
@MeynMotorGroup4 жыл бұрын
That is a solid point actually I keep having the mindset that these cars are new and that's not the case despite how well they drive
@johntaki27044 жыл бұрын
@@MeynMotorGroup exactly it’s easy to forget how old these cars are, I just did a bunch of work myself on mine and it barely costed me anything. Dealerships and mechanic shops just overcharge for maintenance and repairs when parts are just slightly above average, there’s just more things to replace. These cars are also mindlessly easy to work on.

Enjoyed the review👌 I got an ‘05 here in Aus with 285000kms (just under 180000miles) I can tell you, I’ve driven extremely low mileage examples, and my high mile LS still drives as good as those. They are an engineering masterpiece, and to me that’s a big part of why this car is so luxurious - the build quality and reliability, not to mention that engine. It’s not a luxurious experience if your car’s at the shop for repairs often. There’s nothing quite like an LS430. Also, that steering wheel is a common issue - the clear lacquer cracks from sunlight over the years, as it retracts right up in direct view to the sun.

I bought a 2004 LS430 with the Modern Luxury Package...same as in this video...in January. It has 152,000 miles and it is truly the nicest car I have ever owned. I rarely air it out because it's such a pleasure to drive I don't mind taking my time. Everything works just as it did it's first day. A couple little things you didn't mention that just make me smile. The front vents will oscillate from side to side once the interior temperature reaches the desired level. The center console has an a\c vent and it gets downright chilly in their. I will never sell this thing. It's just too nice and it still gets looks from people. One other thing. I also have the slight cracking in the steering wheel. That is due from exposure to the sun and temperature changes. You can't feel the crack and it's hardly noticeable.

I have an ‘05 with that optional sport suspension and 18’s. If you select ‘PWR’ mode on the dash switch, the suspension tightens up noticeably, and your back-road cornering is flat and tight - none of that interstate float. I was kind of hoping you would give that PWR option a try on your test car. Yes that raises the shift points as well, but the major thing you will notice is the suspension leveling. Otherwise you get the standard float. For me it’s like owning two different cars.

All LS430’s have the same output of 278 HP. Lexus originally claimed 290 however when the SAE got around to reviewing the dyno data (years later) they didn’t agree with the way Lexus had interpreted it.

Lexus most likely wanted to claim 290 to match the 290 of the 1997 - 2000 LS400’s 4.0 L. The enhanced torque curve provided by the 4.3 L does make it superior overall though.

I had a 98 LS400 for over 10 years and final mileage 228000 miles. It was the best, most enjoyable drive (among others I had a Porsche 928 GTS, 76 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham D'Elegance) and only gave it up when the transmission couldn't be fixed for lack of parts. Since I have acquired a 2005 Ls430 which now has 60000 miles. The LS430 has many features (air suspension, rear massage seats, etc., etc.) and I do like it but the seats in the LS400 were so much more comfortable that I miss it every time I sit in the LS430. Also the LS400 felt much more solid... The LS430 engine is faster but smoother? I don't know about that. I would 100% recommend tinting the windows and putting spacers on the wheels, as they look absolutely fantastic when the wheels match the angle of the car's frontal profile.

It looks like the Modern Luxury trim level. That gave you the Mark Levinson and rear heated seats but retained single pane glass. The Custom Luxury level gave you more leather options, added soft close doors, and added dual pane glass. The radar cruise and self parking were still optional. The Ultra luxury added paint options and added the fabulous rear package. The CL was pretty rare, but if you added the radar cruise and self park it was about as luxury as a sedan for mortals could be.
