Scott, I tackled this early in life at 15 in 1981! ;) Dad and I bought a 67 GMC C15 farm truck. Took it completely apart inside and started over, the only thing we farmed out was the rear main and the rusted rockers. The rest was in surprisingly good shape. I can still smell the moldy corn and mice behind the seat. lol I got it out of my system for many years , but I'm about ready to tackle one again at 56 yo while I still can. If you find the right vehcile candidate you'd be surprised how reasonably it can be accomplished. God Bless!

Thank you and Congratulations on a great project, AMD! This was a Fantastic Voyage with your shop and Jason's that should completely wow everyone. I noticed that aftermarket manufacturers' installation videos are done on newer vehicles (less corrosion and use) as I replaced the OEM exhaust header with LC Engineering's 2TR-FE street exhaust header on the 2009 Tacoma SR5 DLT (Dad's Last Truck)at 29350 miles and 15 years after it was built. Corroded nuts and bolts were an ordeal, but it gave me an opportunity to clean that side of the engine bay and the air injection box, which has a much better looking aluminum surface now. Thanks to Tacoma World for the moral support to persevere. Happy with the reduction of exhaust back pressure, which has been the first thing we've done on the Rambler wagon, and a '69 VW Squareback. I'm passing along your most recent turbo -4 video to my daughter, who recently purchased a Subaru Ascent 2.5-turbo (as big a truck as the Tacoma, but with climate-controlled cargo space). Mil Gracias!

Great video. I have learned that when I take something apart (like the steering wheel disassembly) I try to remember to take a photo. I am just a DIYer and I know that reassembly can be a challenge.... During the Covid hiatus I decided to take my 1995 Toyota T100 extra cab SR5 apart and redo it much the same way you did your car. Just much less complicated. I found a beautiful carpet kit for it and put sound deadening material on the floor. The dash was perfect as I have owned this truck for 28 years. I polished out the instrument cluster and it amazingly looks brand new. All new LEDs here also. I refinished the steering wheel and column cover. I redid the door panels and replaced the radio speakers with good quality speakers. I found a nice Pioneer radio that fit perfectly in the double din opening. Even has satellite radio, usb, etc. I also replaced ALL the old bulbs with LEDs that made an incredible difference. Those old halogens just weren't cutting it. This included the exterior lighting , the dash, and all interior lights. I understand how elated you are with your 600,000 Lexus. My truck has only 170k miles, but it too is like new. The exterior is perfect with no rust. I finished it off with "TRD Sport" factory decals on the side panels that look so very cool on this old 1995 truck. It was a very rewarding project. Wish I could send a photo. Your channel is great.

It's an OCD thing, kind of difficult to enjoy the car if it stinks, makes noises or doesn't look or drive right. The only way to get a true opulent feel from the car is to have it close to original as possible, and having a project like this is fun especially since you know you're saving a classic Lexus from the junkyard while having Matt Farah style bragging rights. UZ engines are also pretty stout so I don't think it'll be an issue long term even if it wasn't meticulously maintained.

What an absolute gem! This was a project well worth the effort. One of the coolest facts about the 430 is that the engine was the only one in automotive history to be certified to be used in aviation applications by the FAA. This is a true testament to Toyota's engineering. This makes me want to look out for a used one.

Amazing! Just Amazing! Excellent job by everyone involved in this 600,000+ mile 2001 Lexus LS 430 project. Its great to know that there are still skilled, competent, capable, handy, detail oriented professionals who take pride in their work! ✌🏼🙏🏼

Excellent! I wonder if you will say how much this super detail job cost. And everything in general of course. So many hours and parts invested.

Question: How do you arrange or plan out where you put the part, nuts and bolts so when you replace them you know what goes where? Cardboard with bolts thru them with labels? Spread sheets?

We labeled them by area. So dash upper, dash lower drivers side passenger side. And in some cases by major components. All seat bolts go together, all bolts related to the backseat area go together.

Can we safely say nobody has ever torn down, cleaned, and restored a Lexus LS to this level?

Great job on your 600K miles Lexus. I enjoyed you videos of relentless pursuit of perfection on this car and it’s ready to go another 600K. Keep up the great job you are doing and educating some of us that are less mechanical. Your 600K Lexus may end up in a Lexus museum someday……………

You must keep this fabulous Lexus to at least the one million mile mark. Great work. Enjoyed those episodes from purchasing the car to all of the restoration.

Great series! This summer, my son and I worked on replacing the heater core on his Honda and my wife’s Mustang. As he and I were watching you and the team put the dashboard back together and the care you had with keeping track of all the bolts, we both appreciated the mishaps along the way. I had to pull the dash out twice on the civic because of a bound up harness that was stuck behind the crash bar…that’s ok :-). That’s how we learn. Thank you for the journey and sharing all of the challenges along the way. For me and my son, we’re tackling replacing a head gasket in part because of the inspiration of channels like yours. Thank you AMD and team for a job well done.

This now belongs to a museum somewhere. I am not sure if there is another high mileage Toyota/Lexus sedan that is this immaculate, again. Probably not.
