I had a head on collision in my LS 430 8 months ago. I firmly believe I am still on the right side of the lawn because of this car. Every thing that is designed to give you the best survival chance worked to perfection. Engine went below the floor, front crumpled up to the windscreen, all air bags went off and the four doors were still able to open as normal. I really miss my LS 430.

Had owned a series of manual trans 4 cyl. turbos previously to this, but my 2013 Subaru STi broke me of that cycle when the engine went bad ($$$) at only 100,000km. The GS IS an old man car, but at 56, I guess that's me going forward. Anyway, love the GS, barely miss the manual trans (so far). Hopefully I'm wise enough to keep it for years to come.

I bought my 2004 LS430 last August off a respectable lot with 141K on it. Dealer gave me a great deal. Twenty years on a Lexus doesn't spook me. I found my 1991 LS400 in 2004 with 161K on it and I drove it to 350K before letting it go - same engine, drive train, everything, but repairs became expensive. My LS430 has impeccable maintenance records and has been a dream to own. And yes, when you close the door all outside noise is eliminated. Thunk. Gone. It's remarkable. No regrets.

This one of the best reviews of a Lexus LS430 I have seen. Alongside Car Care Nuts reviews. These are phenomenal cars. Although I have driven its' predecessor, the LS400, a 1998 model, that car was still one of the most refined cars I have ever driven. I have been driving nearly 30 years and I used to be a chauffeur. A 1998 car that had better refinement than the luxury cars that came out in 2014/2015. I say this because I drove the luxury cars of that period. Only the Rolls Royce Phantom of the time had the same level of refinement. Buy an LS430 if you can but get a clean example that has been well looked after. I am going to do the same....oh and did I tell you the LS400 98 model I drove had 212,000 miles, no rattles whatsoever was still on the original engine and gearbox?!!!

Most of what's been said is correct. However this part needs clarification - "The power mirrors switch connection can become faulty, particularly in hot climates like Australia. Folding functionality issues may require the entire mirror assembly to be replaced, which can be very expensive (over $1000). Alternatively, the power folding function can be disabled" as it's not just the folding function but also the mirror adjustment that can play up. However, contrary to the advice given you might get lucky and not need to replace the entire assembly. Owners group will tell you that a little contact cleaner may be all that needed to get them working again. Just used it this morning and adjustments are back to normal.

It’s scheduled on 21 July, 1500 bucks. kit is 350 bucks. It’s the labour. I got two new mufflers couple years back because the aluminum heat shield corroded the muffler top. All in all a fantastic car. I bought it for 23,000 in 20008. Saw a 2010 LS 460 L all-wheel-drive executive seating package TV between the seats like brand new. Replaced the exhaust flex pipe, it started to rumble so i changed i had replaced before it got worse. Also, late last year the front brake calipers started to freeze up, had them replaced. I have put more $ into it than what i paid for it, but i'm not complaining. The durability of this engine & transmission is great. I love the way you guys point the real best and also how you point out how the rest of the car makers have been taking the piss out of us.

I fully agree with your notion that it could be the best car ever made. In 2006/2010 I ran a Lexus dealership in Johannesburg South Africa. Had the pic of any car to drive as a company car but chose a 2005 LS430 for 6 months. It was replaced in December 2006 with the LS460. Magnificent car but lacked the mystique and grace of the 430. Magnificent vehicles!!

I had 4 Commodores over the years. A VH SL/X sedan 2850 5 speed manual, gutless but reliable with good ride and handling. A VK Berlina wagon 3.3 5 spd manual. Great car on the open road. A VP series 2 wagon, 240 000 kms when i sold it. And last one was a VX 2 Acclaim wagon with FE2 suspension. Ex South Australian police vehicle. Was a great car very reliable. Converted to Lpg in later years. Put 180000kms on it, a great car for long distances and great on fuel for a big car on the highway. They were all good cars. No major issues with any of them. Australian engineering!

Some of the complex electrics will become a problem and they aren't as easily repairable as the older models. Otherwise can't go too wrong.

CDs are amazing, I had got rid of them but now collecting them like mad. I’ve got a 90s Panasonic Cobra ghettoblaster and Denon hifi seperates and these - like the Lexus - are testament to Japanese engineering quality. Always loved the LS family after the groundbreaking LS400. Awesome review as always Adam

A beautiful car no doubt Adam! The Japanese luxury arm have nailed it over many years mate. Funny how you mentioned Jody initially. I thought to myself “I wonder?…” 😂 As an avid, ok obsessed watch collector enthusiast, there could only be one Jody. Just on that too Adam, I always check out the watch your wearing in each episode & I have worked out you must have a few yourself!👍🏼😎

I DID buy a 20-year-old LS 430 off a lot last year. Reputable dealer had 2 white ones - a 2004 with 142K miles and chrome wheels and a 2005 with 162K and machine finished wheels. I got the 2004 because it had an unimpeachable service record. Miles on an LS don't intimidate me. In 2004 I bought a LS 400 off a lot with 161K on it and I drove it past 400K with same drive train. Was still smooth, but repair costs were getting too high (most of those years maintenance was 0$). In my 2004 when you get inside and close the door the world's sounds cease. It's like a vault. Levinson sound system doesn't work but that's not a deal breaker. It's quieter than my living room and even when I get on it accelerates like a missile with very little sound. Very delighted. This car and I have a long way to go.

It is the best. The 400 is also bullet proof. I own 2 Lexus 430s including the 05 and I love em. I bought a 460 and while it does ride a bit better with a few more gadgets it isn’t as reliable as my 430s!

Tough call as to if I'd go this or the Century. I think the Century takes it by a whisker but it is tight. Definitely didn't expect yoda to do the safety overview in today's video lol I will admit the fact that it looks a bit geeky, as you put it Adam, makes it more of a sleeper than a lot of its competitors. As always guys you've done a bloody good job with this video. Also keep up the good work and look forward to next week's videos as per usual 👍.

2005 Grey LS430 owner here. I'd planned to sell the car now we're about to become empty nesters as the 430 is much more than we need. Perhaps switching to the GS430. After watching this you do have a point. It is possibly the best car ever built. I mean anything else I get after a 430 is always going to a lesser car. Hmmm. Maybe a rethink is needed and we just have to forget that there's 2 back seats albeit extremely comfortable ones.
