My grandfather had an 02 but traded it in 2006 for a fairly new white 04 grand marquis park lane edition with a full black landau roof, when it had 40k miles. He passed away a few years ago so my grandmother took it over for a bit until she stopped driving. She had her license but never owned a car herself. It was my grandfathers last car and my grandmothers first car. It sat for a couple years while i looked after it. When i got my license i made sure to let her know how much i loved the car. When she thought about selling it, i was the first person she came to. It currently sits at 107,058 and its staying with me for good.

Grandpa rode in style with this car. Pure comfort, and classic luxury. The Panther platform were the last of it's kind. They don't make them like her anymore!! A True beauty. Guess the demographics who would buy these kinds of vehicles are sadly disappearing. These cars will definitely shoot up in value in the next upcoming years and will become classic collectible cars.

Digital gauges were optional on both Mercury Grand Marquis and Crown Victoria, so there are plenty of Grand Marquises w/o digital gauges. Speaking of Crown Vic, I think they only had digital gauges in 1998-2002. They’re very rare on Vics though.

I occasionally drive a 98 Vic with the same exact digital gauges as this, but I'm not really a fan. Miles to empty is nice but there's no tachometer which is disappointing

2004 is said to be the best year for the Panther. The frame and suspension was modernized in 2003, the engines received a power bump for 2004, and in 2005 it went to throttle by wire and some have said it isn't as easy to tune. I still want one of these, I'd probably buy some senior citizen's only driven on Sunday Grand Marquis for maximum comfort and selectively fit Crown Vic P71 and aftermarket performance bits. A CVPI is a little basic inside. This car (like many Panthers) was probably a senior's car, just a big comfortable cruiser with all the options. There are still bargains to be had for clean low-milage examples. Really the only thing that can kill these is rust. It's an F-150 with a car body. As long as the mechanicals are maintained these just don't wear out, and if they do parts are everywhere and cheap. The paint quality and rustproofing is poor though, I saw a little rust peeking through.

I just sold my 2004 Grand Marquis. I've had a total of four panthers. Two of which were 2011s (last year for panthers in the US) and by far the 2004 was my favorite. So easy to customize. I made a nice profit on it but I miss it already. Current have only a 2011 Crown Victoria.
@redey1290
@redey1290 2 жыл бұрын
I have to agree. With 2004 you get the rack and pinion steering, updated suspension/frame, and it's still got a traditional throttle linkage. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think it also got the Marauder intake and PI heads & manifold as well.
@TheJimmyBuffalo
@TheJimmyBuffalo 2 жыл бұрын
@@redey1290 The base Grand Marquis didn't get upgrades like that. There was the old "Handling and Performance Package" that got some upgrades but "regular" GS and LS models did not.

I have 2 Grand Marquis. A 2006 model I bought in 2014, which now has 288K miles on it without any problems other than a bad alternator. I have been daily driving it, and it has been driven all over the country for the past 8 years. About a year ago, I bought a 2011 model, with only 27K miles on it, in like new condition. It will become the replacement for the 2006, and my last car. When/if it wears out, I will just replace the engine, transmission, and whatever is necessary to keep it going. I will keep the 2006 in secure storage as a spare should anything ever happen to the 2011. I plan on driving a Mercury Grand Marquis for the rest of my life. It has everything I want. V8 engine, rear wheel drive, solid rear axle, body on frame construction, real tires that actually have sidewalls, 4 wheel disc brakes, a super comfortable ride, plenty of power, it's big, and it looks like an actual car. I also have a 1964 Ford Fairlane 4 door, and when parked end to end, both have very similar proportions. They don't have that spaceship look or garbage technology that newer vehicles have. Mine gets an actual 30 mpg on the highway with the cruise control on. That from a 2 ton car with a V8. And it is built like a tank. I feel very safe in it. the front end on the 2003-2011 models is stronger than some trucks. I believe this is a car that would still sell very well if the 2011 model were brought back completely unchanged.

Crown Vic owners always want these. And the Grand Marquis owners want Town Cars. Actually, the Grand Marquis is my favorite Panther, because I don't like the styling of the Town Car. Of course, the Marauder is my fav, but we have to be reasonable. Oh, and being a GM guy I naturally prefer the B bodies over these, but these are more reliable (even if it's not by much, cough cough LT1) The one thing about these: finding one that hasn't been donked is almost impossible here in Central MI. Very unfortunate.

I always thought the 2000s marquis had a nicer roof line and front end shape then the towncar of the same era. The tc was too rounded jelly bean like it did not blend the square/round styling as well as the marquis. Everybody goes nuts for the tc & vic the marquis is always ignored I've watched many reviews of towncars and crown vics were the reviewer will throw in a nasty dig about a grand marquis. The crown vic has almost taken on a mythical status in the panther world i always thought the marquis was nicer so did ford that's why mercury made it & it cost a little extra

They are also American, and there are millions of them in existence, which means lots of cars and almost unlimited parts available for a very long time. They are also simple and easy to work on, so if something needs to be fixed, either the owner can do it, or any independent shop can do it, with no special tools or diagnostic equipment. Well maintained, the engine and transmission will last well past 300,000 miles. There are also a lot of things on them that can be rigged if necessary. The electric blend door actuator in the climate control system can be converted to manual, the rear air suspension can be converted to coil springs, and a whole lot of other things. A mechanically inclined person who is good at improvising can practically keep one going with duct tape and a pair of Vise Grips.

Great review. I've had my 04 Town Car coming up on 11 years. The absolute only mechanical issue I've had was replacing the intake (after 9 years of owning it) which is pretty common in these cars. Best car I've ever owned. The air bags are cracking but I'm not converting to springs! Will be replacing them with Arnott air bags soon.

I'm an owner of a 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis LS Premium. With almost every option available that year. It doesn't have digital display. But, it does have front bucket seats, center console with floor shifter and power moonroof. I replaced the rear air suspension with a conventional rear suspension, because I don't like it. I love mine. It has just under 126,ooo miles on it. Panther cars are getting more and more difficult to find. Especially one in decent shape like mine. Considering the last ones were built 10 years ago. Fortunately, as you said parts for surviving Panthers are readily available. Great video!!

I would buy this over a crown vic PI but I don't dig the one wheel peal burnouts and that air suspension is super expensive and guaranteed to go out. Also I like running on e85 or at least having the option and later model Vic's got more hp out of the 4.6 too.

Ford/Mercury has used the Ride Engineered dash sticker on their cars since the 70's. I had one on the dash of my 1979 Fairmont and my Aunt's 1976 Granada. Just a sells gimmick.

They ride smooth. I've owned "old and new" Lexus, and my Grand Marquis LS rides just as nice. It's more comfortable too! My Lexus may have been faster, but my Grand Marquis LS was more comfortable to drive.

Ugh. I miss my 95 Grand Marquis LS. She was built the same day I was born, and much like myself; she would take whatever abuse you could throw at it.

I have an 07 Palm Beach edition. Loaded, and gets 30 mpg on the interstate. 22.3 mpg local. Paid $1200 for it, so after 5 years of daily driving it's cheaper to own than any electric vehicle.
