Fought this bearing all evening, started to doubt if I was doing it right. Thanks for posting this video! I know I'm on the right track, it's just fighting me.

Just went through this, and the car's now running great. Though we ran in to some problems. Here's what happened: 2002 Nissan Maxima, MT. Driver's side wheel bearing change. 1) Axle nut was stuck on, even the dealer couldn't remove it. Had to break it in to pieces, ended up getting a new Reman Axle as threads were ruined ($60 / autozone). 2) Installed new bearing, hub, and axle. Needed professional help just for the bearing/hub press part. 3) Driving on it. Wooo!!! Thanks for your help!

Thanks! I called about 7 different places for the part and got quotes from $40 to $190! Co-worker overheard me, then said spouse was a mechanic, and she got it for me for $30!! I sure wish phone service and cable were like auto parts!, Thanks again!

Thank you so much for this video! I noticed you kept threatening to use a press, I'm glad that you didn't because most people don't have presses. I have to replace my wheel bearing on my 97 Nissan Pickup. The shop wanted 225.00 to do it + 79.99 for an alignment. So I will be attempting this soon. I hope I don't break anything! LOL!!

Very helpful info you saved me over 170.00 just for the labor the bearing cost 52.00 just for one wheel so thanks a lot.for people who like doing this kind of work and save money especially with today's economy better than reading books.

As a tech I found that freezing the bearings they go in much easier,I always put my bearings in the freezer before install,and I always use royal purple grease...
4 жыл бұрын
Yeah I agree I do the same thing,, heat up the wheel assembly and freeze the bearing and drop it in..

Excellent video! Couldn't have been any more clear or lacking any details. Thanks very much for posting, I have yet to try this method and I'm hoping it will be this easy for me to get done and save a few dollars from not having to go to the machine shop!

6:23 thank you brother. I just bought my brothers maxima and he thought it was a bad axle but it was a broken wheel knuckle. I got one off a 4 banger 05 altima but the center hub was smaller in diameter. I had to take off that center hub and your video saved me $250.

Thanks alto for doing the video. this is my first time working on a foreign car and I had NO idea how to do this. You clip showed all needed! I have also used your "Old Socket" method for removing the race ways when doing bearings on a Chevy in the 70's. Thanks again for taking the time on video.

Great videos man. Its funny because I have the same issues you do, as soon as my car starts acting up I search your videos and there it is. I had an issue with rear bearings as well, couldn't figure out which side. Turns out both sides were bad. Replaced, note my car no longer sounds like I have mud grip off road tires. Thanks for doing this the hard way, you convinced me to buy a $50 press off craigslist which made it way easier.

Dude - Thanks for taking the time to detail this out. I'm replacing the hub and bearing along with the lower tie rods and anti-sway bars. Dealer was asking some outrageous price for just the single bearing and lower rods. $1200. Fuggedabouditt!

Thanks just finished up mine reassembling now, Ended up using harbor freight 30mm to drive inner bearing out, then used gearwrench 2-1/8 for the larger bearing, had to hammer the gearwrench socket once or twice on each snap ring to break the rust on the loose, then used autozone rental axle socket 36mm to hit on the focal point to drive the hub back in, though a 37 would probably had been nicer..

@zashbot2 жыл бұрын
this is video is really good now when there’s not a good source for these with the bearing already installed
@2012nugget12 жыл бұрын
The WD in WD-40 stands for water displacement . It will not "eat metal" but due to the thinness of the fluid it makes for a great substance to aid in the install. It should not be used as a lubricant, again due to the thiness of the actual fluid. Thanks for the praise ! Have a gooden !

Like he said using the old bearings races as a punch is great save old races for jobs in the future. Once you have a few cut a notch all the way through so if you have to pound something through a sleeve they have a little room to contract and are easy to remove after using it as a punch.

So you actually hit the inside race. My bearing was stuck so bad i had to cut it out of the nuckle cuz it broke a 6ton press but now I need to put the bearing back in. So you put the the adaptor right on the race. The hub underneath n hit the adaptor a. It pushes the hub up into it??

@2012nugget12 жыл бұрын
@Tylanta1999 It can actually be removed from the front or rear. You just have to position it to where there is enough room for the bearing to clear opon removal by proping up the assembly.
@joannahekkala6619 жыл бұрын
I've watched this over and over I got it now that's what you did, right. You hit the inner ring because its the other inner ring is being supported by the hub!!! Got thanx for the video. I shouldn't need to do it but shit happens right.

hey 2012nugget, great video man! love how the instructions are clear and crisp! I do have a question though. at 10:10, which lube do you recommend using before smacking in the new bearing into place? I saw WD-40 on the side, but I just want to make sure

I did it and it was nearly perfect. Only exception - I cheated and used a press fit machine my friend had. I could not beat that hub out with 2,000,000 hits. I got worn out. Luckily it was free to use the press fit. I'm doing the hub on the other side now. Thanks again!

Will this be the same steps to perform for a 2000 Nissan Maxima as well?

@fireworkspark12 жыл бұрын
When u go to put the hub back in do u just tap it back in the new bearing race?
@2012nugget12 жыл бұрын
@hp11208 Yeah it's a good idea to put the nut back on the axle a little, loosen it then remove the nut, that will straighten the threads if you hit them.
@MarcinAKaPolonia12 жыл бұрын
Any recommendations on where to get this done?
@briandrum112 жыл бұрын
@NFSINSANE You have any idea what would happen if you go too long without fixing it? Reason I ask, I noticed the sound a few weeks ago, and just found out what it was. I have about a 45 minute drive tomorrow on the highway and won't be headed home until at least midnight. Last thing I want is for the bearings to completely go and have me dead on the side of the road in the middle of the night....
@DJSORO11 жыл бұрын
i wish i would have seen your comment earlier. i took it to a shop and the guy used a press machine and i kept telling him that the bearing was in all the way but he disagreed and kept pressing till he broke my spindle. the area where the tie rod goes in. now i have to buy another spindle... do you think i should not mess with the used spindle im buying or should i change the bearing on the used one im getting?
@mike04239911 жыл бұрын
2012nugget.. once you get the new bearing installed into the knuckle assembly and everything is ready to be put back together.. how do you get the male part of the hub into the inside race of the new bearing??
