@@SenegalGab It's not too bad, time consuming yes, but is worth it to push your vehicle's safety and reliability to the maximum. My car had tons of play in the front suspension it was scary on the highway. I knew then it was enough and it was time to rebuild. The alignment shop told me it looked like it was done at a shop, but I also needed motor mounts and a steering rack. Once I unfortunately dealt with those, I got an alignment and have never drove a car so solid before.

I like watching videos like these that are above my level of experience because it gives me a better understanding of how things work, and what tools/equipment I should already have on hand to make the jobs easier to do. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with others. Because of people like you, I learned how to do my own oil, change my tires, replace my brakes, replace a seized caliper, and the other day I did rotors for the first time.

One thing I really like is that his videos don’t make the jobs seem super easy like other creators. Stuff doesn’t come off easily, stuff breaks, stuff won’t go together. Then he shows how to correct the issue, sometimes in multiple ways. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve started a job, got into a situation that things didn’t go as planned, and then had to just keep trying for days … or (more often than I like to admit) after trying for a long time, towing the car to a mechanic to finish the job for me.
@derekp66368 ай бұрын
tbh thats an accurate take. I'm not a professional and sometimes jobs just dont go as easy as it looked or I make a mistake and need to wait for a tool/part. I haven't had to resort to towing YET but I've called for help and left in the driveway for a few days...
@williamjones34808 ай бұрын
@@derekp6636 I got lucky one time. To sum up: car overheating. Ordered water pump, hoses, belts, etc etc to refresh everything. The day it arrives(Friday), a hose blows, so I replaced it and returned all the parts. I thought I had found the problem. Sunday afternoon, I flush the coolant and realized that my water pump had a crack in it. I considered re-buying the water pump and fixing it, but when “the book” says something takes 2 hours, that can mean “2 days” for me to do it. I had to be at work on Monday, so I called Pep Boys. When they were taking off my water pump, 2 bolts broke. If that happened to me, i would not have been able to fix it, and they would’ve charged me to fix that problem, but since it happened while they were working on it, they didn’t charge me to remove the broken bolts, only for the labor to replace the water pump. That’s the story I tell myself to attempt to convince myself that I’m not a loser when I can’t fix the problems on my own.

I stepped away from mechanics for a bit to follow my dream as a trucker... But now I need to rebuild my first car and rescue it from the scrap yard once again. It sat for five years... But now I'm gonna save it. Plus do a disc brake conversion. Thank you for everything you do, Chris. You helped me save my car in 2016/17 and you're gonna help me save it a second time. But this time I also have help from my dad and my lady. This is gonna be so much fun, I can't wait to dig in! I know it's gonna be rough but when it's done it'll be worth it.

I will be tackling my wife's 2012 traverse's front suspension this next weekend. Did her water pump this last weekend which was a pain, but done. This looks sooo much easier. Didn't think about painting. Might have to do that. Thank you for the vid!

Did you guys get notified by KZbin that the video was posted? Also when you watched the video, was there a screen that said "this video was flagged by the KZbin community and may be offensive" or something like that? Just wanted to check because I had issues last night which is why I had to postpone publishing the video. I hope it's all fixed and you guys learn a lot from the video! Stay tuned for the next video and then for a video that, well, covers a life changing event ;) Also for those asking why I am wondering, here is what happened last night when I went to publish: instagram.com/p/BwI-VOhFkt2/

This video and its sequel are what helped me start to understand the basics of my car's suspension and eventually gave me the courage to do a front/rear strut replacement on my Camry. Some of the information had to be adapted to my specific car (mine doesn't have upper control arms and it has sway bar links that connect to the struts, for example) but it was still a huge help. After about ten hours over the course of two days, some scrapes and bruises, a trip or two to the parts store, and of course plenty of swearing, my car had four new struts and rode better than it has since I bought it. Also saved at least a thousand bucks over what my shop quoted me. Anyway, great video and thank you for putting all this information out into the world for free.

You can own a car early, just can't drive it. Could buy a fixer upper before you can drive, spend some time working on it, then by the time you can drive legally you can have a cheap free and clear car that you can have the pride of having repaired it yourself.

This is terrific. On these kinds of terrible rusted-out disassembly jobs, I've gotten used to watching channels do the work with "overkill" tooling available like an arbor press, cutting torch, air-arc gouging rig, etc. It's neat to see how you get the job done well with relatively modest tools.
