Man this is a long time ago, I was probably one of the few people who watched Todd Hamilton win the Honda Classic that spring, back then the Honda was kind of a forgotten and downtrodden event in the Southern Swing and was not yet played at PGA National, but instead across the street at the Country Club of Mirasol. After finally earning his tour card that offseason, Hamilton won that Honda out of nowhere, albeit on a week many top guys took off. Then he won this British Open later that summer in an improbable playoff upset over a three time major winner who had come so close at both the US Open and especially the Masters. He then did nothing for the rest of his career. It’s wild but many many guys on tour would do anything for just one year like Hamilton’s 2004 season.

Heartbreak again for Ernie, but I hate the 4 hole playoff format for the Open Championship. Gimme Sudden Death or an 18 hole format. 2004 was a rough year for EE- Got to hear Phil's putt go in at Augusta, then see a journeyman in TH win the Open. Ernie is the 3rd best golfer of the Tiger Era, but even with 4 majors, he probably should have won at least 2 more with all the chances he gave himself.

He also played in the final group of the US Open that year but blew up with an 80.
