Impossible to see from an overhead camera angle whether it was in the D. Probably a couple of mm out and Hossein wouldn’t even have known. Both players were very gentlemanly about the outcome though, credit to them.

I’m with you on it being fractionally out. That said, I also think the overhead was enough. Given the balls have a tiny contact patch with the table due to the thin baize, the centre of the ball only needs to be a couple of millimetres out the D from above and it was clearly at least that far out from that bird’s eye shot.

@ISuperTed It was actually quite clear from the overhead camera. The ball was about 5mm outside the D. Good call by the ref. I wouldn't say getting upset and arguing with the ref is gentlemanly. The gentlemanly thing to do would have been to accept the ref's decision. Neither of them did. That's why they went to watch the replay/still. But even after they saw the evidence of the foul, they continued to argue. But, thankfully, the ref stuck to his guns. The ref's decision is final.

@@sideshowrob5453 It might not be that simple.. the camera is centred over the table, therefore balls on the spots will look outside due to the angle of the top and sides of the ball not being the same at that of the bottom which you can't see. Not to mention, you can't see the point on the arc where it meets the baulk line. Since there is a curve, that's another thing which optically makes the edge of the ball look outside that line, when the centre could be right on it. I'm not saying it wasn't out.. I'm just saying that the camera is not sufficient to tell. He shouldn't have mentioned the camera, he should have said, "I'm the ref, my decision counts."

Seems to me it was on the yellow spot as Jimmy said. The same place where the yellow was at. Or the ref didn't put the yellow on the spot start of the frame maybe sliding off scenario

It's a shame it's an edited version of the match. I watched it live at the time and when Vafaei has ball in hand after the in off, he places it on the yellow spot( which is totally legal) but as he moves his hand away the cue ball does seem to just roll slightly to our left, his right which would mean it was out of the D and hence a foul. Real shame we don't see that footage as I'd like to see it again myself. Still one of the most gripping & strangest matches I've ever seen, a great watch.

It was ball-in-hand... But the white was placed behind the bulk line but just outside the "D" arc. The referee aren't suppose to remind you. Hence a foul 🙏

Refs call is always final, people say what does a few millimetres matter. It matters a lot in fractional games like snooker. Who knows if Vafaei was chancing his luck here or if he genuinely thought the white was properly in the D.
