I do believe that it was a goal and they got robbed because of it. However, there was still plenty of time remaining for Tampa to tie it. So, no they did not technically win (even if the goal counted) and no they did not deserve the win. There's obviously a good chance they could've retained the lead but one will never know. One can assume Calgary would've won but it's only an assumption. Any hockey fan knows a game can go either way especially with an empty net. I've watched the Penguins down 2 goals then pull the goalie and score 2 to tie the game. You can never fully give up on a team until the buzzer sounds. If the goal was at a minute or two left it would be totally different. There was over 6 min left. I always thought the controversy was because the goal was in OT. Then I would consider Calgary the true Cup winner. But seeing how much time was left it's not as simple as saying they should've won. Calgary fans are just assuming Tampa wouldn't have scored. This all could've been avoided if the NHL makes a habit of reviewing goals at any time.

(ii) When the puck has been kicked using a distinct kicking motion. (iii) When the puck has deflected directly into the net off an official. (iv) When a goal has been scored and an ineligible player is on the ice. (v) When an attacking player has interfered with a goalkeeper in his goal crease. Even if it had been reviewed the tiny sliver of white seen between the puck and line was likely only seen due to the camera being positioned in front of net instead of within the plane of the goal line. It is called parallax. Refs are aware of this and that tiny sliver of white would not have existed if the viewed from directly above. Look, I can see white from ice between the crossbar and the goal line from that angle too, that doesn't mean the crossbar is past the goal line. The puck is in the air, so it looks like its in from that angle because you can see white between it and the goal line, but that's because its airborne.

Greg Dobson On top of that, say the review calls it in and it’s 3 - 2. We can’t tell how Tampa respond after being down a goal. Saying the Flames “were the actual winners” is just well-wishing. Flames didn’t have an answer for Tampa in Game 7. They lost.
@Tapperlite12 жыл бұрын
Its not a kicking motion. But I think the rule needs to be rewritten if they called it this way. If it said "no skate moving towards the net and/or a distinct kicking motion shall result in a no goal call." Then this call would've been good.

no goal! A. no definitive proof it was in, the one angle it "appears" to be in isnt proof it was in because of the puck being in the air and the angle we are looking at, it could be a foot from the line at that angle and look in. B. was it kicked in even if it did cross the line??? the kicking motion and it being over the line are equally controversial. Calgary fans can be bitter but the right call was made because of no proof. there was 7 minutes left in this game, OT in this game and a full game 7 for Calgary to finish it off and win the cup but they couldnt get it done. nobody was robbed of anything.

Wonder why? Because Canada's fan arent going anywhere. The NHL needs to bring in fans from the US especially the slower markets, to become relevant so they spread the cup around the States. Aside from Boston beating Vancouver the Hurricanes and Lightning had no fan fare before "winning" the cup. Or we should say before being given the cup. The NHL is just another corrupted corporation. It's very common in the corporate world.

This many years later, I'm still surprised how stupid some people are saying Calgary for sure would have won the Cup if this was called correctly. Yes, the puck was in and it was a brutal call. But if it was called a goal, Tampa would have pushed hard for the tying goal and would have pulled their goalie. There is no GUARANTEE Tampa wouldn't have tied it back up. As it was, both teams weren't taking any chances and the game went into overtime. Tampa would have been pushing HARD in the last seven minutes to tie it and they very well may have. Yeah, it sucks for the Flames but all these people saying they definitely would have won the Cup because they would have had a one-goal lead with seven minutes left are all complete idiots. Seven minutes with their playoff lives on the line and Tampa FOR SURE wouldn't have tied it up? Okay. Talk about delusional.

That is NOT a conclusive angle to be able to tell if it is a goal or not. To everyone saying "That's a goal!! I see white between the puck and the line!!" please understand it's an optical illusion created when the puck is in the air. Do the experiment yourself: Lift a puck directly OVER a line but NOT across it. Now look at it from an angle. Looks like the puck is OVER the line, right? But it is NOT, is it?
@quentincampbell6125 жыл бұрын
In all due respect to St.Louis and all the other Lightning players,the puck may be in the air but,it's across the line completely. You have to go by what it appears to do right then and not make theories about why it's not and certainly not some CGI animation that is displayed months after the fact. Besides,it's pro sports leagues are sports entertainment! It's not so important to warrant computer animation. It's not the Zapruder film everyone!
@bradywatts2083 жыл бұрын
They really could not of gotten a better angle. It looked like it was on the line but it could've been called in.

Lets say the goal was allowed, does not mean the Flames win that game. There is still 6 and half minutes left for Tampa to tie it. Plenty of time.
