I put the steering stabalizer and bar combo on my yz 250. Not only does it look super cool I can now ride for as long as i want, reduced my arm pump allot and now i can haul but over any type of whoops with total confidence. Thanks for helping me with great setup wes!

I just rebuilt/modded my 2016 YZ250x I bought three months back and it’s hands down the best bike I’ve raced out in the desert doing hare & hound/ all the District 37 desert series races. Stock the YZ250x was a great bike but I just put a big bore kit on it, full Pro Circuit suspension forks and rear shocks, Excel pro series black rims with heavy duty Spokes and galfer oversized wave rotors, Pro Taper fatty bars and triple clamps, IMS 3.2 gallon tank with dry break quick feel, ASV brake away levers and cables, pro taper aluminum throttle tube, D’Cor gripper seat cover, Pro Circuit works pipe and 296 spark arrestor, IMS bigger pegs, Maxxis ties, Works oversized radiator with braises and skid plate and that’s all I’ve done so far. Only a couple things left to do to it like front light bar setup,brake light, new kill switch setup, v-force reeds and a few other thing but the YZ250x is the best bike for your money!!

Sounds like a sweet bike! I'm still loving my yz250 almost "X". You have invested a lot into that bike and it works great for your type of riding which is awesome! What do you plan on powering your front light bar with? I've been doing some night rides with just a helmet light and battery pack setup which works awesome! - Wes

Let us know if there's anything that we can help with and we'd love some pictures when you get them finished. Thanks for watching and following the channel. Since the new models are coming out you could've bought a 2017 YZ250 for around the same price, sometimes less. Not sure about the YZ250X though.

Harry _ but then it's still stock. The reason people go crazy with the two stroke builds is because the technology doesn't really change especially with yz's. That's why you hardly ever see "2005 crf250r build" because 4 stroke engine technology has come so far it'll never be competitive. you might as well build a bike that is custom tailored to you with the suspension/looks/power delivery etc. because by the time you do all that stuff to a 7000 dollar bike it'll owe you around 9 or 10. I think it's a cool idea.

mwwalsh133 yeah with that money he could of bought a new yz250x but if he did it wouldnt of been as modified as this one this one is fully modified the x would be stock and if he put all the money on the new one it wouldnt defete the purpose that older bikes could become competivive with less money than a new one

yall should post a vid on a walkthrough of the airbox conversion to fit the 2016 plastics. would love to do that to my yz250 but can't find any tutorial online to do so!
@rmatvmc
@rmatvmc 7 жыл бұрын
This is a fairly straight forward process. The most in-depth that it gets is the airbox and intake boot swap and with the YZ it's pretty easy. There is an allen bolt that clamps and holds the boot into the airbox. You access that from the top of the airbox. Once you remove that you can pull the boot from the old airbox and install it onto the new airbox in the same fashion. I did have to swap a couple of the plastic threaded clips from the old box to the new one but once I did that everything else is as easy as swapping the plastics. If you run into any questions on this feel free to comment and I'll get right back to you! - Wes

@TheLoydal
@TheLoydal 6 жыл бұрын
@@henrya1347 if you can find an 06 or up you can get away with running the forks and shock as they come from the factory. You may need to freshen them up, but you don't necessarily have to revalve them. The 2006 and up came with KYB SSS forks, they have speed sensitive damping. It makes a substantial difference. That's really the big difference between pre and post 2006.

I had to go out a buy a 2018 yz250. I'm in ontario Canada and they go for 8200 bucks out the door with a super deal from trailside sports. Oversized fuel tank and flywheel weight 11oz are on my wish list. Buddy gave me a set of v force reeds and fmf fatty and 2.1 silencer. Just swaped the bars out for protaper evo woods high and broke my thumb same day working on my KENWORTH logging truck. So waiting for spring to ride now.

Hey Wes I love the bike. I've got an '06 Rm250 that I've rebuilt very similar to yours, but more single track specific. We've got more than a lifetime of mountain trails out the door and not too many hare scrambles... I threw a Lectron Carb on to balance the seasonal elevations changes without having to re-jet, a fly wheel weight, gnarly pipe and TC2 silencer. One question I had for you - have you ever had any overheating issues running an oversized tank on slow single track with no fan? All the orange bikes run fans, but none of the Japanese bikes do - however they are out numbered 10-1 on the trails. Some friends that ride technical trails on YZ250Xs swear against oversized tanks for heat issues... I wondered if you've heard of this? Cheers
@rmatvmc
@rmatvmc 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Marc, thanks for the comment. It sounds like you have a sweet RM250! I'd love to see a picture. The lectron carbs are sweet. We've had a few guys add them onto bikes here and they perform flawlessly. We put one of the 2004 CR250 bike build as well. Not sure if you saw that video or not? kzbin.info/www/bejne/fWaWfop3fJKJoqs During the years that I've owned the YZ I have never had overheating issues. I've been on some gnarly trails and super slow technical riding and not had a problem. The oversized tank definitely blocks a little bit of the air coming through the rads and around the engine, but it hasn't been enough to make a difference. I also went to a high pressure rad cap and the Boyesen Supercooler Water Pump Cover and Impeller Kit to help avoid any issues out in the desert and on the trails. A high pressure cap is a great way to up the boiling point of your coolant and get around a lot of the overheating issues. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have more questions - Wes

Remember that the steal frame has some flex rather than the rigidity of the aluminum frame. One of the reasons why KTM still has not switched to aluminum frames.
@rmatvmc
@rmatvmc 3 жыл бұрын
No doubt! Flex in the frame can be a good thing, but they tend to wear out more quickly than a more rigid aluminum frame. Once again, there is no perfect dirt bike out there! You just need to find the one that best suites your needs. Thanks for watching! - Wes

Rocky Mountain ATV MC thanks Wes, I'm trying to decide what to buy next. Currently on a 14 WR450f and on the fence between 2 & 4 strokes. I think I'll try and have a ride of a few before making the decision. The lower weight of the two stroke is definitely a big appeal. 👍🏻

Will a 2015 plastics kit go straight onto an 03/04 yz250?
@rmatvmc
@rmatvmc 7 жыл бұрын
No it wont. You will want to purchase this kit from Polisport that includes a new 2015 Airbox. www.rockymountainatvmc.com/p/1044/69681/Polisport-MX-Restyling-Kit- . Then when these plastics are due for replacing, you'll be able to just buy the 2015 replica plastic kits from here on. Thanks

Rad build!! You said you kept stock gearing minus the wr kit, so 1st gear is stock yz? I'm just wondering how first gear is in the tight, slow, rocky single track stuff as I might do a similar build and ride lots of the tight stuff. Keep it up!
@rmatvmc
@rmatvmc 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Dylan! Yep! The final drive gearing is all stock so front sprocket is a 14 and rear is a 50 tooth. The transmission is where the different gearing comes in. I made my transmission a "wide ratio" transmission from the YZ250X. 1st and 2nd gear is still stock and these are both shared between the YZ250 and the YZ250X. The difference between the bikes comes in 3rd, 4th, and 5th gears. 3rd gear on the "X" model is actually slightly closer to second than the YZ250 and 4th and 5th are both taller than the YZ250 gearing. I've been riding this bike for a while now all all different kinds of terrain and the new setup has been awesome! I find myself riding in 3rd gear a lot. 1st has been just fine on all the single track that I ride even with it being the stock YZ250 setup. I haven't wanted to change anything yet. Do you have a YZ already? If so, what year is it? -Wes

Rocky Mountain ATV MC I don't have 1 yet, I'm out here in CA so I'll probably get a 99-02 so I can still ride year round anywhere, after 02 they restricted riding in forests by the model year. I'm on an 2008 excr450 now, love the plate for dual sport action but the thing is not ideal in the tight stuff. I have been spoiled with the E button big time though! If I go this route, are there any critical difference from 99-02? Thanks!

Great video! What’s your thoughts on the lectron carb? I notice the more professional builds I see no lectron but tons on the more amateur builds. This is exactly what I’m after now. Rebuilding a YZ250 for woods hairscramble type riding. I haven’t ridden a two stoke in years and want a project as well. Only thing is the yz s are getting more expensive on Craigslist. I guess people know the value as many others are wanting a project build themselves.
@rmatvmc
@rmatvmc 5 жыл бұрын
Honestly, I think some riders still run a regular carb because you can do a little bit more custom jet work on it. However, I know guys that run the lectron on fully race-built motors and love them. The best part about a lectron is that its basically plug and play and you don't need to make any changes when you change in elevation. My friend has a 125 with a lectron and he can go from here in Utah where it's 5000-7000 feet of elevation and drive to California and ride at sea level and literally make zero changes and the bike runs awesome. You couldn't do that with a regular carb. Hope this helps.

Rocky Mountain ATV MC ya thanks helps tons I just hate messing with jetting going up and down elevation and call me under the rock but just stumbled across the lectron carb otherwise I just used jd jetting kit. Thanks again for the video I especially like it was geared for the trails and not just track because can’t afford to get hurt these days and the track seems to increase the chances and so the build related to me more.

Awesome bike! Buttt Why didn't you do the SSS fork conversion!? I did basically everything you did to a T with my 03 wide ratio tranny and everything but with 22mm triples and the SSS fork conversion professionally valved it was so much better than I could ever get the 03 forks to work. And after some time riding I added the ESR325 kit and man does it scream now, and pulls way better through those gaps in that wide ration tranny! Screw a new KTM, my bike may vibrate a bit more but it's dialed better in handling and performance and even with all the mods it's about $3500 cheaper that a stock KTM. A KTM300 with all the wanted mods/exhaust, head mod, guards, skid plate etc etc would prob set you back around $15000 all said and done and it still mite only be 'slightly' better if that!

Hmm what year, those are not too bad (have done 92,94,96,01, all pretty much that same). Will need a few specialty tools, can be done without some but makes it a ton easier and safer. Watching a few video's never hurts but no replacement for the Honda Service Manual. Then it's just about organization of your parts as you pull them. Enjoy!

I just completely rebuilt my 2005 yz250 engine, and like you I was really nervous about taking on the task. I had done top ends but never anything past that. I went ahead and did it myself and it was not nearly as difficult as I thought it would be, just take pictures of everything as you go and put everything that goes together in labeled bags. If you really want to go the extra mile you could film the whole tear down so you can refer to it while rebuilding. But if you can do a top end job I'd say you should be able to do the bottom end as well. Also, you might be able to find videos of other people doing it on KZbin to help you through the process. Just make sure you get the proper tools so you don't have any problems! Case splitter, crank puller/installer, flywheel puller, clutch holding tool, etc.

I highly doubt pivot works manufactures bearings & seals, they most likely source them from a bearing company and have their name stamped on and resell them at an inflated price. I just go directly to a bearing supplier as they are much cheaper.

Getting parts for my yz250 is soo addicting and kinda dumb. Bought every part brand new, no used parts at all. Cost me like $3000 just to make it look good, think if I sell it in the future I will definitely be loosing a lot. As I seen fully custom yz250 for a lot cheaper then my build

Aside from the weight, what's the difference between the steel frame and the aluminum one? Some of the threads I've read are complaints about "the aluminum frame" but those posting those threads seem a tad (shall we say), biased. You know, haters of team blue, so I don't think I can get an honest and UNbiased opinion from them.
@rmatvmc
@rmatvmc 4 жыл бұрын
There is the weight factor, but it mostly comes down to chassis flex. The steel frames tend to flex more than aluminum. Everyone thinks that aluminum frames are just rigid and unforgiving but that isn't the case. A big part of chassis flex is the engine mounts, this is why you see so many teams running different mounts, to get more flex and a more forgiving set up. But aluminum frames are very good and yes, everyone is biased one way or the other. We have a rider here who was a very loyal KTM rider for many years. But once he rode the Honda 450RX, he couldn't believe how awesome the bike was and how much he loved it.
