Hey, justa small note: You may want to note the year of the Dakota in the description, just so we can know if this is applicable.

Other than the pump and rack, front end, rear appears normal leaks, is there other places the steering fluid can leak from? Im not ready to replace this truck yet, 2001, previiously owned, and many parts im hitting are original, so i figure each month ill hit something else. Doung the work myself and my brother in law. ( and his dhsp on tool kit) who thinks after replacing tge whole pump and reservoir, the spot tgat started leaking next is the rack. But when i got u dervit, it seemed to be an inbetween spot too. ( pump and rack) Also.. the part tgat looks like a vondenser next to the pump.. would tgat need replacing too? He thinks all the fluid that leaked may have damaged it.. or can it be cleaned? When i was looking up the ORing kit, i realized it was not much more to just replace tge parts and i had to find all the bolts anyway, so may as well put new parts that come with new ORings? Great video. Im 58 yr woman. Learning a new thing this year. "Mechanical repairs" of my truck. I got the truck for free, road ready. But onowing it was about to need new parts, at about 150.00 mo average for any given part. This is not the hardest thing we have done so far. Lol But when im done with the need for the projects i wanted it for, itll go to my som in law.. for dump rins and grocery errandas. So its less cost than getting into a car and insurance note. And im hitting a new part about every 3 months, before its an issue, but this one caught me off guard. At same time as renewal of licence and registration and inspection. So its been off road a month to diagnose and order parts. I think the other leaks happened due to other video, not yours, not addressing PRESSURIZING. ( Which was an issue when we did the radiator, not a "simple add to overflow" issue. Lol ) but we figured it out, finding that the hex screw on hose is a "process" to pressurize" Im just adding this for anyone commenting. Im in a state that lives for you to maintain your older vehicles. If it passes insoection, i can get a inspection that will be honored till it dies, "isnt worth the cost to repair, and will be salvaged when it dies and off the road" but i dont think its there yet.. plus, i live it, first pick up ive owned, and when i get a new vehicle, it will def be a Pick Up again. So my next question would be . What gets best mileage?! Lol

Thank you so much for the video. It was very helpful but as I replaced it and made sure everything was tighten correctly. I went to add the fluid and after I drove it, it drove perfectly fine until I would go to stop and it would seem like the power steering would lock up and I would have to turn the wheel very hard, what do you think the issue is?
@ValleyMobileAutomotive Жыл бұрын
I would go back through the bleeding procedure and make sure all the air is out of the system.

Is this a 2wd Dakota ? Cause I’d imagine people who own a 4wd one have to drop the front axle down some to get the power steering rack out

Great video. Will 1998 Dakota be the same as your ? I was told it was a bear but your looks pretty good. Also after the rack & pinion is completely out of the way is that the best time to replace the steering shaft ? I was told mine is also bad. I was also told the power steering pump was bad too. Again Thanks, Steve
@ValleyMobileAutomotive5 ай бұрын
@@Steve-cs3tt I'm not sure if a 98' is the same. If you are replacing the steering shaft as well loosen all the bolts on the shaft before removing the rack. That way the rack holds the shaft from turning.
@MarioMartinez-jo3ys Жыл бұрын
do you have to re-center the new steering rack?

You should take it to an alignment shop after repairs. This will readjust the tie rods and straighten out the wheel if crooked 👍
