2005 F350 Dually - Carrier Bearing and U-Joints. BAD HUM

I've had a rather annoying hum on the truck for awhile, and the initial research points to the carrier bearing on the driveshaft.
We replace that, and the u-joints as long as I'm down there.

Nice video. A shop press is definitely your friend for this job. Way to stick with it and get 'er done. I would think any grade 8 bolt/nut with lock-washer and lock-tight would be fine for the carrier. What did you end up using? I'm about to do this job on my 2002 F350 SRW. I'm hoping a bearing separator and a shop press make this go smoother for me. I'm as rusted as you, maybe worse, so it should be interesting. Thanks for the video, it will be helpful to me.

Thanks 👍 I ended up getting a 20 ton press this past weekend when I re-did my rear bearings and races.. much better! For the carrier bearing bolts, I went to the dealer and picked up the correct parts for the job. about $25.00 if I recall, but it's the right part. Seeing as I use this to tow our camper with my wife and kids riding with, I'm not going to chance safety for a few saved dollars on parts.

They will rent you a ball joint /u joint press for free at most chain auto parts stores... Your life would have been so much easier. I found it so usefull I just bought one

I found I had one, after the fact! HAH I've since purchased a 20 ton upright press for futures headaches :)

Oohhhh you must live in the rust belt somewhere........you have my deepest sympathy replacing everything with rust included......

We're in Southeast MN.. Pickup spent 5 years in the south pulling a horse trailer, and then it's been in MN the last 10. Not too much driving in 7 of those 10 winters, but it all ends up the same. I'm going to clean it up a bit, and hit spray the underside/box with rust encapsulator and look away...

By any chance was the humming you were hearing start at around 50mph??

No, it was down around the 20-30mph range. Seems it's just due to the dually tread on the rears as it was more notable when new tires were put on.
