I have two 6.0 too, and I learned long time ago that these injectors rarely go bad. Just when you think you've go injectors starting to fail, simply pull all injectors out, clean them up and put new o-rings on and reinstall. They start working just fine after that for years. I also learned from another guy in college station tx that if you want to pull the heads, unbold the engine from its motor mounts jack up one side at a time, this gives you several inches of clearance to get the head bolts out and to remove the heads. If your going to be a 6.0 owner, its almost manditory to be your own machanic. Diesel Tech Ron and others have great videos where you can do it yourself and save tons of money.

Yes you are forced! Either to fix it or you'll lose your truck! I have 2 6.0s and a duramax. Working on these things is awwwwful! Lol. But oh the joy you get when the thing is right. All my trucks are built, by me, no holding back. Build it right ,once, and enjoy, because they are AWESOME!

Absolutely great advice. I've had a reputable "performance" diesel shop install my turbo with only one mounting bolt, and had a FORD dealership severely under-torque new injectors, causing them to fail. You must be self reliant, especially in todays world. When I first bought my 6.0 I was intimidated because I was unfamiliar with the system and wouldn't dream of replacing injectors myself. Then after reading forums and watching KZbin, I got the guts to tackle the job. I then realized it wasn't really that hard. Don't get psyched out.

There's probably still going to be things someone doesn't want to do or decides they can't but dig in, get familiar, know your vehicle. It helps everyone. I bought a 6L a few years ago… for beach fishing, towing the boat, etc. I got a great deal and expected to spend some $$$. But this past year, I got tired of draining $$$ and decided I’m gonna do this stuff myself. The learning process has been awesome. You really can find EVERYTHING between KZbin and the forums. I’m sure I take a lot more time to fix it, but I’m learning with every project/issue… There are things I’m certain I’ll still need help on, but I’m a much more educated owner now.

Right on the mark! The moral of this story is that anyone who owns a 6.0 needs to have some understanding of the mechanics/electrics to keep them running. Monitor FICM voltage, coolant and oil temps delta, fuel pressure, coolant pressure. Love my 2006 dually. Great video. Your F-250 has gorgeous paint color and shine.👍🏻

What a steal. I bought my wife her dad's lariat fx4 for 10k. He had the bulletproof oil cooler and egr cooler installed but they never updated the dummy plugs and standpipes. So one went out and he said screw it and let it sit in the backyard for 5 years. Man Im KZbin certified lol I redid everything rebuild the injectors all new sensors a coolant filtration system. I bought everything I thought I was going to need and I still have parts just in case. I just redid the manifold studs and installed gaskets yesterday and she runs great now. I'm waiting for another weekend to install the bulletproof water pump and get rid of the factory air box so she can breath. There great trucks and she's only got 100k on the odometer. Great video man and what I've learned is use oem Ford parts only when it comes to sensors like the icp and ipr and any seals.

I have a love hate relationship with my truck. But the knowledge I gained from doing my own work is more valuable than the truck itself. they get expensive quick because people just throw parts at them and don’t find the root cause. Once you learn how they work, they are actually not hard to work on. Mine is an 07 with 237k and still original heads and gaskets. Also don’t overlook the low pressure side on these. On a side note, you live in some beautiful country

I love my 6.0 do all my work myself with my mechanical knowledge. I troubleshoot mine based of how it's running and problems I'm having and start simple first. Recently I noticed high coolant pressure. Knew about where the problem was being that mine wasn't completely bulletproofed at that point. So I pulled the heads off found nothing wrong with the head gasket. Took heads to machine shop and they found that my heads were cracked. I went back together with arp studs resealed everything fixed a few leaks now my 6.0 is completely bulletproofed and running stronger than ever. Did all of this with the cab down and cooling package out of the way

Good evening Brig. I did exactly what you said. I pulled my 05 6.0 Excursion into my shop n dug into it. Checked plugs n then pulled egr n found that egr was very sticky. Cleaned it with degreaser now it springs back. Gotta get orings so not positive that is the problem but I’m sure it was part of it. Thanks again for the encouragement n I gotta admit I guess I was scared to look at it myself because of all the horror stories. 💪🏻

@Post_Tenebras_Lux09 I have a friend with an 04 6.0 F350. It's been in & out of a few different shops in recent years. Just last week, he was telling me he's still having stalling issues. I keep telling him to go online & youtube it. Learn about possible causes and maybe he can fix it himself. Sounds like a HP oil leak or possibly ficm issue to me. He said to me " oh, well i found another shop that has years of 6.0 experience They said they'll bulletproof it for about $4500 and that it needs a new turbo" . Yet another example of shop incompetence headed his way. I can feel it.... I highly recommended to him to make sure they find the cause of the current problem before they bulletproof anything. We'll see how it goes. Maybe I'll end up picking that truck up for a song and fix it myself!

I understand the “stealership” angle, but just know that doing your own due diligence, making sure everything is in its place, and that all the components look right (!?!) (8:57) is not always going to be enough. Believe it or not, the oem scan tool is a godsend when it comes to diagnosing. Aftermarket scan tools don’t show all live data and can lag, throwing off the diagnostic procedure.

Great video. I had the same problem after having my 2006 head gaskets and injectors replaced. I replace IPR valve after the shop that did the head gaskets and 2 other shops and 3 Ford dealers could not tell what was wrong. I have found that most repair places are not competent especially the Ford dealers. Most diesel repair shops want you to know what a piece of junk the ford 6.0 is. Maybe it is. but it sure did run good before the head gasket repair and the last 20,000 miles. Some how a Chinese knockoff IPR valve was put on the truck. When I took it in for head gaskets and injectors truck was running great. I have had the truck sense 2006

I recently bought an ‘05 350 with similar problems from the get go. I paid 14k for it and nearly have that much back into it. The guy I bought it from said it had a new turbo, injectors, glow plugs and hpop. Thank God I found an honest shop here in Mesa, they told me the truck was factory original except that the emissions components were deleted. So, it’s back in the shop to bring it back to stock. I’ve had it since May and have only put 2100 miles on it; it’s due to be home the middle of this week.

Brig T's experience (as well as the previous owner's) w/the diesel specialty shop, and the Ford dealership further reinforces what I strongly suspect concerning auto repair. That is the vast majority of self-proclaimed experts on any given make/model aren't anything of the sort. As with the case of the previous owner's diesel shop, many are actually hacks. GENUINE subject matter experts devoted to quality work, like Diesel Tech Ron are very rare. It's all about cutting corners, getting the auto owner's $$, and getting it out of the repair shop as fast as possible. As Brig T stated, no one is going to be as thoughtful and thorough w/your rig as you.

BRIG T…. You should definitely do a little comedically inspired skit and a little song to honor our great and fearless Diesel engine guru and “6.0 whisperer” That one and only Diesel Tech Ron !!! It’s just an extremely sad state of affairs that in 2024 there’s still “Super Awesome Truck Buildup Shops….Master’s Diesel Guru’s!” Swapping the stud for the bolt and knowing that it’s going to be cutting into the wire harness is just a fantastic example of that shops shoddy workmanship and they deserve a good negative blasting! If you don’t warn their future victims then you’re not really standing up for what you truly believe in? Or that’s my thinking.,, even if to avoid the legal bullcrap you use a little rhythm’s with this or sounds kinda like this or that… at least you’ll be taking the stand for doing the right thing! And doing quality work for the fair price type thinking… telling the guy that spent $15g’s 24 months prior that he needs $6 more G’s in new injectors to get his engine to run correctly is just a sorry shop in my thinking! Didn’t they test his original set for proper function before his rebuild? They were all lacking but they went ahead with the rebuild and they just chose to install those sun-par units in their rebuild??? They sound pretty shady! I really appreciate that you are making a very good case for guy’s to take on the responsibility of doing some of their own work and promoting guy’s with a 6.0 should be doing that little extra studying and learning about those several areas to check out before they turn to someone else who might not even know as much about their equipment as they do! I’m definitely going to be checking out those couple of things on my engine! Overnight I developed a stammering or rough acceleration and then she’ll clean up at certain rpm’s and run but definitely not running 100%! If it wasn’t the 6 speed stick I couldn’t have continued limping her around! Just had the caliper’s start leaking so it’s time to run through it completely and shake out her issues and get her back into good shape! I lost my great 6.0 guru last year so I got the scan tool that I can program in my dozen code’s so I can see what she’s doing and track down the different problems!!! I’ve been avoiding the programming step for way too long and I should’ve been through her a couple months ago but..,better late then never! LMFFAO!!! Put all the Chuckwagons on blast! As long as it’s the truth it’s not really liable!

When I bought a 6.0 I learned through trial and error as well. I could do them in my sleep now have done everything from Valves head gaskets fuel rail seals injectors and just about everything in between you name it. There's multiple things that can go wrong with these engines but for the most part it's not that expensive and it's usually stupid little problems that are easily fixed. Personally I would never go near a dealer not even for advice. Like you say there's plenty of helpful videos online if you get stumped.

Something i found out by chance was replacing the alternator. I replaced my alt with a unit from Tucson alternator. That alternator puts out 14.8 volts steady. That xtra push helps keep the current/heat down. Made my truck just run better in general. Even the tranny shifted better.

I bought a new injector harness and that cleared up my missfire. It helps if u get the higher voltage FICM from bullet proof diesel. Higher voltager = less current. Injectors will run more accurately and push the injector open and closed reliably.

Actually, the HPOP on the 7.3 hardly ever fails. I believe it’s quite the opposite for the 6.0 HPOP AND, to make matters worse, it’s buried under the turbo on the rear of the engine.

I knew a guy who had to buy an 05 from his son who paid about $30K and couldnt make the payments. After he got it all the problems started one after another. He had it at Ford and they spent 10K on it. It didnt last 2 months and was giving trouble again. He called me after towing it back 1000 mikes and i found the melted corroded exhaust backpressure sensor. I noticed Ford failed to connect his air filter properly but said it wasnt there fault because it wasnt factory. He spent another 6 thousand at Ford and another month later it was stalling at a stop light. The truck mysteriously caught fire and the guy got some money back but lost a small fortune bailing his son out.

Can't remember if it was an 03 or 05 6.0 that I had for a year or two. On the highway it would on its own go full speed then low speed and shut off then able to start up. From what I remember the injectors were opened by oil pressure. The oil pressure regulator that fed the injectors went bad. Believe it was on the rear of the motor by the fire wall. I'd love to know what company you are talking about. My 6.0 broke down in SLC last year and took it to one of the most reputable 6.0 shops in that I could find. 5 days later they returned my truck with a cracked windshield, $800 bill a new check engine light that wasn't there before and it's ran like Piss every since. I got in a fight with the shop owner afterwards and he blamed it on the truck and I still have no clue what the hell he messed up. The only reason I had to take it to the shop is because my Tuner decided to freeze my ECM and I needed them to flash it back to stock.

The shop was called Stroker Diesel...or Stroked diesel repair. Down in like S Jordan area. SW corner of the valley. I have very little confidence in "Diesel repair shops". I have done way better over the years doing my own research and doing repairs myself. But, yea, I get it if you need a computer re-flash or similar service. You pretty much need a shop to do it. Gillette diesel service in S Salt lake is a top notch shop. Myself and my brother have used them many times for top quality service.

Now that the weather is getting better I'm going to start working on the issues my 6.0 is having. This is my first diesel. It replaced a 1991 7.5L FI which replaced a 1983 7.5L Carb. Feedback welcome. My 6.0 starts fine, idles good but sputters and hesitates. This usually goes away after it's warm, but not always. Lately not. I've been told it's a glow plug issue. I thought I would start by replacing all glow plugs, harness and control module. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Darn. I have similar symptoms, but my IPR and ICP PSI reading are good. I have a new EBP sensor (I will check connection though). I’ll keep digging.

Are you referring to the little silicone ring (usually yellow) as the isolator or are you referring to the light gray plastic piece that’s over the plug at the end of the ICP connector? I noticed the old ones are all black but the new ones have a light gray piece built into it or that possibly slips over it? Mine is all black and does not have the light gray.

Ebp valve wont cause those symptoms. It will make it run like a dog but wont make it stall its just emmissons crap . You can unplug it and run without it..

So did you run the truck after the new IPR to see if it fixed it or did you do all these repairs at the same time? Just trying to figure out what was the actual problem.
@BrigT262
@BrigT262 2 жыл бұрын
I did all the repairs at the same time. I believe the true problem was the EBP sensor plug. But all the items I replaced could've contributed as well.
