I bought mine in 2005. It was my first car. It was stolen in 2012 and found in 2020. Having loved the car as only I had, I went about restoring it to its original condition (if not better). With a new 1.7 D17A engine from Japan, alloys, entire suspension, manual transmission, Ecu, sunroof, DuPont paint, leather seats, radiator, all cables, iridium spark plugs, liquimoly oil change, air box, exhaust system and audio system, nothing feels better than this on the road. It has done 320k km and feels better than ever. As satisfying as an SLR would have felt, given my attachment and liking for this model and its looks. All I need now are the oxygen sensors and interior mirror

I bought my Honda civic 2005 Ex 5 years ago and I love it. This is the last great generation of Honda civics. It never breaks down, Its amazing on gas/mileage, it doesn't cost me much on insurance and its a great car for the city. Its lower to the road and reacts really well and fast . It's actually fun to drive. However, at 6 foot 2 I wouldn't recommend it for very long drives (more than 2 hours). Other than that, I'm extremely happy with it and plan to keep it until it dies. But if you respect the maintenance requirements you should be keeping it for a very long time.
@thisismysn6 жыл бұрын
I'd like to respectfully disagree - the 8th generation Civics are also very reliable. The 7th generation as a whole isn't as reliable because of the failing clutch packs in the 01-03 automatic transmissions.

Mine has 205k on the original trans and still shifts fine and has reverse. Much of the issue was the service manual had the trans fluid change at 120k for normal driving and no replaceable filter. BAD IDEA for those following the manufacturers recommendations. When changed every 30k with Honda OEM ATF or better they last a REALLY long time. Also you can't beat on them all the time either. If you drive conservatively and take good care of it they'll last 200k-300k

Other than installing a better audio system and replacing the rear brake bulbs, the car at the time of purchase was in immaculate condition for 100k. No mechanical issues (yet). My car doesn't cost much to fill (20 from mid and ~55-60 from empty) and is quite fuel efficient. I know how the car will hardly require any repairs, the Civic and CR-V we currently have are like that. I just think it's a lot of money for a 9 year old car, even though it's in great shape. This isn't the dealers fault really, Civic's hold their value like crazy. If I had to get a used Civic, it would be an 8th gen just because I much prefer the styling, over all feel, and the prices aren't much more than the 7th gen Civic. Within the first couple seconds of driving you notice how raw and connected everything feels....the steering, the braking, even the gas pedal has this amazing raw feeling. It's not the fastest car but it's still very nimble and makes a great daily driver...compared to all the new cars that have artificial, numb, stale electric steering and throttle along with all the pointless gadgets and gimmicks...I prefer something that's more "get in and drive".

I did all the work myself however from what I've read the 7th gen civics with the d17 have BAD headgasket problems. When I took the head to the machine shop to get it checked and milled flat he knew exactly what that head came off of since they do the machining for all the honda dealers here in Pittsburgh and said he does around 7 of them a month. So before buying one wouldn't be a bad idea to look for signs of the headgasket starting to go

I've got an 05 Coupe EX (83k on it) and while I do really like the car it was not made for north america. I've had to replace the muffler after it rusted out and fell off at 70k and had to re-glue much of the interior fabric back on the doors. The rest of the exhaust system is rusting out too and needs replacement and the Al wheels are corroded and don't hold air very well and the car goes no where in snow. Road salt just eats these things alive after time. Other than all that, great car.

The count "The seventh gen civic is definitely underpowered" = 3 "This car feels more organic" = 5

You could get leather seats in this generation that were heated but only sold in Canada which was the Acura EL.

I wasn't talking about this Civic, I was talking about Civic's in general. When we were looking at the price for 2-3 year old Civic's, the price was so close to a new one we just got a 2013. New car, we know the history, no surprises. I'm sorry, but I can't see my self spending 10 grand on a 9 year old Civic, no matter how nice it is. We've had 6 Honda's and don't get me wrong we love the resale and reliability, but damn it's tough for the person in the market for the car. Just my $0.02's.

You keep using the word "organic" and I think that is an important point. When I got rid of my beater car that had hydraulic steering and got my first new/modern car, it was a very jarring experience. It felt like I was...playing a video game behind the wheel. I was steering, but it didn't feel like my car was connected to the road. I really hope this is something car manufacturer's work on in the years ahead.

My dad owns this Gen civic with the VTEC. It comes with a tan leather interior. Pretty good color combination.
