My 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee had an irritating vibration between 60-70 mph that would cause the interior pieces to rattle and even made the seats vibrate. As a fix for this vibration, I replaced the CV joint on the front drive shaft (propeller shaft). This improved the vibration.
At 48:52 you can see the piece of metal that was broken inside this joint from the ball bearing cage, and at 51:08 you can see another crack.
Note: I made a mistake during assembly. I clamped the boot too early. This boot band should be clamped after the CV joint has been installed on the shaft. I may have twisted the boot by clamping it first which may cause a premature failure.
UPDATE: The CV joint was obviously bad (dried grease, broken boot, broken ball cage) but replacing it did not solve the vibration problem. I had to replace the rear drive shaft. The video and explanation is here: • 2005 Grand Cherokee dr...
