Absolutely great video, spot on... Oh my word, I literally had the exact same issue with my Toyota RunX RSI(euro spec aka Corolla TSport)... when accelerating the steering would vibrate and shudder, it started after hitting a pothole, initially started at a speed of 110 km/h, eventually went down to vibrating from 80 km/h. Took it for alignment, did the balance twice at two different places, even rotated tyres, eventually figured out the drive shaft was bent, this was after a week of having to drive under 80km/h and roll the car in neutral to all the different service centre's... Have to give a thumbs up on this

Inner CVs vibrate and rattle in a straight line at speed. Outter CVs rattle going 'round corners. Curbside usually goes first like most suspension and drivetrain components.

This is extremely helpful thank you!! I’ve had the intense vibration from 50-70(mph) I’ve had it tracked, new tyres & balancing, new track rod ends and bearings and it’s still here. I suspected it was the dual mass failing because it went away when I come off the accelerator or dipped the clutch. I’m going to check it now, thanks for the video!!

Hello, thank you very much for taking the time to record and post this video. About 5 months ago I noticed a vibration on the wheels at around 70+mph, I thought it might have been a wheel balance issue however I've recently had 4 new tyres fitted (all terrain) and the problem still persists, what's interesting is it seems worse under load, and at last MOT, 2 months ago, 1 of the advisories was grease leaking from CV joint. I will specifically check at 70mph without load in the next day or so. 👍

@@garyalcorn3831 hi Gary I haven't had the time to seriously look into it but 3 points to note. 1, even with my previous tyres, pirelli scorpions I got some vibration at over 70 in the steering wheel. 2, my mot found oil leaking from CV boot, so is there some wear causing vibration. 3 When I had my tyres fitted by Halfords, the tyre fitter told me that because the tyres were off road tyres there would be vibration through the wheels. Tyre fitter told me that "they "don't balance the wheels as the treads are chunky and they'd never balance properly. I asked for a disclaimer but when I went out to his van he was trying to balance one, I presume he tried to, or did balance the rest but don't know for sure. My tyres are general grabber at3s and not cheap. Maybe, they've been poorly balanced and I've got a worn CV joint. ?

I was feeling these same exact symptoms. then I blew a water pump and took it to the shop for that. the tech told me my back boot was riped and I should get it fixed. considering I was paying 1k for the water pump, I thanked him and told him I would come back. I just took it in yesterday and got a refurb cv axel(cant change the boot) and a differential flush. I didn't consider it would fix the shake, just doing maintenance. I was actually just starting to look back into fixing the shake and saw this video. Now I'm excited to go for a drive🎉

@@firstreview8171 FWIW, I found similar vibration conversations in chats on YT and FB. In my case it was my passenger inner axle boot. I changed my passenger side axle with an OEM one and the vibration stopped. It could also be the motor mounts. There are good forums on FB.

My all wheel drive Subaru started doing this a couple weeks ago. Mine stops vibrating when going 65 mph or faster or 40 mph and slower. I found a torn boot on inner joint on drivers side. I already ordered a new axle. I just replaced them both less than 3 years ago but last winter drove through some deep crusty snow here in PA. I'm thinking that's what tore the boot. Wife’s 09 Sienna is having the same symptoms but the shaking starts at around 40/65 (mph/kmh). I’ve done all the test you have done, except putting it in forward and reverse, and was pretty sure it’s the right side inner cv joint. Replacing both is going to cost me about $250 usd and before possibly wasting money I searched online for how to diagnose a bad inner cv joint about a week before I found this video. Nothing I found gave me the answers that I needed until I found this video. Great job on details in examining and explaining everything and I just want to say Thank you for what you do.

I think this is my problem. It's not so bad until I reach highway speeds. I doesn't go away completely when I release the accelerator, but does reduce in severity. I have replaced all wheel bearing hub assemblies and front ball joints in the last 6 months or so, which it was due for anyway,(165,000 miles), and that seemed to help slightly every time, but never cured the problem. All the symptoms seem to point to the CV axles upon further investigation. Thanks for the video. Much appreciated.

I took my car to the Toyota maintenance center to get my transmission fixed and as they were inspecting underneath the hood they told me my axle needed to be replaced they said it was worn out. Great video, thanks. The million dollar question I have is, if there are no signs of grease or really bad loose play, how to tell which inner cv joint is the culprit? I noticed that it tends to shudder a bit more while turning right under acceleration, but not so much while turning left. Otherwise, all of the other telltale signs of a bad inner cv joint - vibration under load only, and mostly in the range of 50-60 mph (80-100 km/h) is where it can be felt the most.

I have a constant clicking noise coming from behind the wheels that gets faster the quicker you drive but no clunking when turning. I also have that wobble at around 60mph. So far both wheel bearings have been replaced, new tires that got balanced, wheel alignment, no play when rocking the wheel top & bottom, side to side so l'm guessing the next step is to replace both drive shafts. Hopefully this will get rid of the wobble and that annoying clicking noise.

Our '09 Toyota Sienna van has a slight shake/vibration at around 65MPH. I think that might be about 110KMH. I'm not hearing any noise at all when turning sharp turns when wheel lock to lock. CV joints usually make a clicking sound when they're going bad so I'm thinking the problem might be the tires. Your video tells me there could be other issues and how to check it out better before replacing an axle or anything. I had a car once that had the same problem and I put tires on it and the problem went away. Thanks for the well explained information.

@@klujics123 We replaced the tires and that helped a lot. Still a very slight shake. I'm thinking maybe a tie rod. The other van, our Town and Country, started shaking pretty bad and the passenger side inner tie rod was worn out. Put on a new one and it's goo now. Good luck with your van.

Had this issue for past 4 years, not terrible vibration but enjoying enough for me to drive 70Mph on trips not the 75-80 that I should. Tires and wheels etc all check out ok. My theory is struts or mounts, they are worn, most folks driving the car would not feel the wear but it's the only thing I can think of.

My problem is similar. I get an intermittent vibration or wobble through the steering column at speeds above 65-70 MPH. It's more noticeable when I have the A/C running and on long stretches where the highway bends slightly and I have to keep the wheel turning. On straightaways and with no A/C, the vibration goes away almost completely. I'm suspecting motor mounts or drive shafts because I've already replaced other suspension components that were in fact faulty.

Interesting video. I was getting a clunk from my drive shaft tripod bearing on my campervan so I had the driveshaft replaced. Clunk gone and I thought all was well, however, I went on a 1500mile roadtrip and towards the end of the journey I noticed a vibration develop, the same as in this video. Vibration under load, disappeared if you coast. Either the driveshaft was very poor quality or possibly it didn't have any grease put in which would account for it's rapid fail. Time to investigate !

U can also check when the car is not moving . In automatic transmission put drive and reverse and touch axle . If is bad is clicking and Knocking

@@craigfulton6292 balance and align tires. Ensure none of your rims aren't bent/ damaged, tires are worn evenly. Rack and pinion could be suspect, engine mounts, throttle body might need cleaning, ball joints

Probably not what you want to hear, but if the vibration goes away when you release throttle, your transmission or differential might be on the way out. Check the trans/diff oil level and color. If it's brown and smells toasty, might be worth a drain and refill. Avoid a "flush" service at the shop.

I think i have an alignment issue. New wheels, all balanced, no bent or leaking cv axles and not clicking. No pulsing in the steering at full lock low speed. Nothing while accelerating. Feeling is in the brake pedal at 65-70 and theres heavyness in the steering turning left and a slight drift to the right. Gets worse as a slow down from 70 till it goes at 60. Front discs and pads are new. There is a click as the slack is taken up by the dif, as it happens when the car is in the air and you rotate either wheel forward or backward.

Ok question, I am getting a salvage OEM passenger side axle for Lexus RX330, maybe has 100,000 miles on the donor vehicle, but no rust. Is that bearing (maybe called a carrier bearing? not sure) Is it replaceable on the axle? If so, how? If it needs grease, how would I press grease into it if it is in good condition? In a warm climate, what is life expectancy of that bearing?

HI Buddy, how are you doing, hope all is well. 2019 Tiguan highline has a wobble while driving at speeds up to 50/ km ++ and once let off gas pedal it gets less. By the way the front tires had uneven wear, and it was pulling towards the right and we were thinking it may need a alignment. now tires been replaced but the wobble still there.

The same Touran 2018 vibrating 130kmh-180kmh center console and all car start when I speed up I already changed new tyres wirh new rims and balance and central tyres 3 times and nothing happened Now I am thinking about to change a car but I don’t want that

Yah! That’s annoying for sure. It was our driver axle needing to be replaced! Wobble has stopped completely

Mine does the same thing. Hard to tell which side. Right side axle is new but left side had 140,000 miles.

Hi Gerald! I have a Toyota D4D 4x4 double cabin track! It has been having a knock noise when you move suddenly in low gear 1. This sound is felt and heard on the driver's side, as if in shock, coil spring suspension area. Mechanics cannot see the problem area. Advise

The vibration on my car starts at a speed of 80 kilometers per hour and ends at 110 120 kilometers per hour. But the problem is that the vibration is constant. It does not depend on loading or unloading. Am I moving up or down? I even tried putting it in neutral and the vibration is still there. I will check out everything you said here and more. I have been to many auto repair shops, many mechanics examined my car and said that everything is fine with me, but no one said what caused the vibration. What else can I look at, what do you think can give such a constant vibration?

Hi mate' I've hat a driveshaft boot tear for 2 years' now my cars steering goes aggressive wobbling at speeds of 45mph - 60mph'' only when I press the gas' once I put in neutral it vanishes but then comes back when pres the gas.. if I park up for half hour then goes back to normal so uts usually happens after around 1 hour driving mark

He is using kilometers, not miles per hour; so he is driving at around 60-70 mph.

Mine is the opposite. When I accelerate over 140kmph and let off the pedal the car starts vibrating and stops when I step on the accelerator. The vibration is felt from the rear end What could be the problem?

I have the same problem. When I go past 80 klms it starts shaking and also when I pull my foot of the gas. Did you fix the problem

10 years old Mitsubishi Outlander with failing balancer shaft was giving me a judder at about 70 mph - balancer shaft and coupling cube replaced, judder disappeared!

Can you please tell me when I hit 110 mph the passenger front seat vibrate really bad. I have balanced the tire did an alignment but I still don't know what it is. Can you help out thanks. Once I dropped the speed it goes away. When I hit 110mph it vibrate hard.

Mine does it when accelerating 20 to 30 mph. Strangely enough I don't recall it doing it before I replaced all the motor mounts. I also now have vibration when sitting still in gear. I had to lower transmission side of motor quite a bit to take out that particular mount. Wondering if I messed up the CV joint?

Just came across this video. My car was doing this, but we found out 3 of the 4 tires were not balanced correctly. Now, the car only does it on bumpy highways. If it is smooth, it evens out immediately. Should I still get it looked at?

Hi, I have what seems to be a very similar problem symptoms wise, although i dont feel any free play up/down, side/side when grabbing the wheels by hand off the ground. And the other big difference i have is my toe in-out alignment wont hold.. Have tried physically finding play in all steering/suspension parts with no luck. Only thing is a very small bit of movement where one driveshaft meets the gearbox.. Any ideas what could be most likely culprit here? Thanks in advance
