2005 Lexus LS430 six speed transmission fluid and filter change at 128k mile. Never been done
These torque specs are my best guess. Do you own research. These are what I found. Always use new crush washers. (always check with Lexus dealer using car VIN). If you are not sure, don’t do anything. Find a qualified mechanic
2001-2003 Lexus LS 430 5 speed
Oil Drain plug 29 ft/lb (use new crush washers)
Spark plug 13 ft/lb
Ignition coil 66 in. lb
Differential drain and fill plug (use new crush washer) 39 ft/lbs or 22 ft/lbs
Transmission oil pan bolts 65 in lb/(don’t over tighten) Use new transmission pan gasket
Tran oil filter 7 ft/lb
Tran drain plug 15 ft/lb (use new crush washers)
Tran Check level 15 ft/lb (use new crush washers)
Tran fluid ATF Type IV (always check with Lexus dealer using car VIN)

2004-2006 Lexus LS 430 6 speed A761E
Oil Drain plug 29 ft/lb (use new crush washers)
Spark plug 13 ft/lb
Ignition coil bolt 66 in. lb
Differential drain and fill plug (use new crush washer) 39 ft:lbsor 22 ft/lbs
Transmission oil pan bolts 39 in lbs(don’t over tighten) Use new transmission pan gasket
Transmission oil filter bolts 7 ft/lb
Tran drain plug 15 ft/lb (use new crush washers)
Tran Check level 15 ft/lb (use new crush washers)
Transmissions dry fill volume from factory 12 quarts
Transmissions fill after filter change 4 quarts
Fluid is ATF WS (always check with Lexus dealer using car VIN)
Fluid temp check using OBD2 scanner between 46 - 56 centigrade while engine idling after running through all gears (do not drive the car)
Engine oil and filter 5.4 qts

Nice video sir. The only thing I would suggest doing different to everyone is before you drain any fluid, make sure that you can open the fill hole plug. If you drained the fluid or dropped the pan and then found out later that an idiot before you had rounded the head on the fill plug or the plug was frozen you would be in a world of hurt.

Awesome... just watched your Rear end fluid change! I was hoping you had this! I have the same wheels... didn't know they were optional?? I'm generally not a chrome type guy but with the Mercury Metallic, I have to say it really looks awesome! And kind of keeps the car from looking too dated even if I personally think it's a timeless looking vehicle, myself. thanks for sharing the content!!! I did my 2011 ES350 about a year ago when I bought it and I don't think it had been done before.... and I'm expecting the same with this car... lol. If so? I plan on a drain and fill and fire it up and mix it up for about 20 minutes - all gears. Then do another drain and fill with filter replacement... then another one in 20-25k depending on quality of fluid. Then back into regular maintenance intervals. These Aisin Transmissions are fairly bullet proof.... even if maintenance is marginal. Thanks again for the content!!

I just used THIS tutorial to change my SC430 6 speed's transmission filter. Much much much easier than the 5 speed LS430. Either that or I just got better. Either way many thanks. Actually, I have a PDF with all the torque specs and it looks like it came from Toyota. But the torque specs for the pan called for 39 foot lbs! Clearly wrong. The Nm and Kgcm were correct for that entry. Clearly a typo on that document. Dunno if I would have figured it out. You saved me a series of broken bolts possibly.

Fantastic work man! I did the same to mine about 5 years ago and have driven 70,000kms since with no issues. In fact, it was a great improvement in shift quality and smoothness. It had never been changed before and was sitting at 260,000kms. The fluid was black/brown. It took me about 12 drain and refills to get to about 90% new fluid in the transmission and on the final drain, I dropped the pan and replaced the filter. It is a very tedious method, as you inevitably drain some of the new fluid each time it mixes through. The more new fluid there is, the more of it you will drain, but it is the safest method. Key is to keep on doing it until the colour of the fluid coming out is the same as it going in. Best of luck man, they are fantastic cars!

Would you say that at 166,000 miles ,I would do well to change my transmission fluid on my 2006 ls430? The fluid has never been changed. Is there much of a risk of slippage after the fluid change? You and another commenter seemed to do fine with a late fluid change.Excellent video and explaining.

I honestly would say with it being a shop and they typically charge around $100+ I'd say that they would charge by the book even though it might not take them that long. Around $300. And that's if they are honest. Just remember that you can call around and ask for an estimate. Toyota also works on Lexus car for certain jobs. But never take it to a shop who has never serviced Lexus/Toyota until you've done your homework on them. I hope this helps you. God Bless 🙏

Do you know if it would harm the transmission to remove the transmission fluid line feeding into the radiator and idle the engine to use the transmission fluid pump to force most of the fluid out? When that line runs dry, stop the engine and refill the transmission. The start the engine for a minute, stop it, and add more fluid. Repeat until the overflow is at the correct level. I did this on an SC300 years ago and had excellent results. The fluid was like new deep Ruby red and clear. Of course, it had a dipstick that made both checking the level and refilling very easy.

When you were doing that first drain after putting the pan back up at 28 minutes, did you already run the car and get it up to temp while shifting gears? Or did you just fill and then immediately dump it? I see you showed you going through gears the second time, at about 31 minutes. So I’m just curious. Also how many times did you warm the car and run through gears then drain before calling it quits? I’m trying to figure out how much fluid to order
@nevadarobert7908
@nevadarobert7908 10 ай бұрын

@@nevadarobert7908 that’s what I assumed. How many times did you run it and drain then add new fluid? 7 quarts on Amazon is $100 so I’d like to only have to buy as much as I need too
@nevadarobert7908
@nevadarobert7908 10 ай бұрын
Three times. I only dropped the oil pan once. The rest I just drained the fluid. It is expensive to do. The cost of a replacement trans is a lot more than fluid. So, drain with new filter is now planned every 50 k miles.

@kcomeskyy9911 10 ай бұрын
@@nevadarobert7908 so did you go through 12 quarts of new fluid or 16? I was planning to go through 12 total. So new pan then 4 quarts, run car, drain, fill 4 quarts, run, drain, then fill with 4 quarts and be done. Or did you drain one more time then I’m planning.
@nevadarobert7908
@nevadarobert7908 10 ай бұрын
I ran 12 quarts if memory serves me correctly. I kept some just in case I needed it. As you wrote, ATF-WS isn’t cheap. I would do it again as the tranny is not only robust but very smooth. Love my LS! I did the pan and filter once (4 qts) the just drained the pan only without removing it (2.5 qts) x 3. I got really good at it .

I have an Autel Maxisys. Very nice bidirectional scanner. I also have Topdon which is much less money but also is very nice. Both read the ECU for transmission temperature. I am a scanner “junky”. Given the amount of money they have saved me they have paid for themselves. Some folks suggest using a basic infrared scanner on the transmission oil pan. I did that on a Mercedes which had no ECU transmission temp readout.
