Nice to see a review from an actual OWNER of the car - not a pro car journalist who just drives one for a day or two.

Thank you so much! That's the reason I waited a bit until I made the video, I really wanted to spend time with the car to see how it really is. Unfortunately most journalists only get the car for a few days or weeks so they can't always do that but I hope I did a good job in presenting it to you and everyone else, thanks for watching!

My first car is a 2006 Mini Cooper S. man I absolutely love it, so much fun to drive, and you feel it has a personality unlike most cars. They're also surprisingly affordable for a first car, and as small cars go they're pretty safe.

Great review!! I am not a big fan of driving mist times because it seems to be more of a chore these days ; however, I had an '05 Mini Cooper that made me find any excuse to get out and drive about town. Loved this car. Had to sell it but am almost in a position to purchase another Mini. I'm excited and looking 👀 for my next Love.

Awesome! Really enjoyed this. I still own my '05 w/ a JCW suspension and a 15 percent reduction pulley. NO problems whatsoever. It still ROCKS! Really, this is one car that has FEEL. You're fully engaged while you're driving it, and I've owned an M3 ('95). One thing I'd add. The '05 has different gearing from the '04; in short, it's much shorter, so the torque truly is off the charts.

I currently drive a PT Cruiser; it's not a bad car and certainly not as gutless as a lot of people make it seem (mine is a non-turbo with a 5 speed manual). I "love" my PT, but I would honestly trade it for a Mini in a heartbeat! I've wanted the Mini Cooper S for the longest time.

Nice video! Thanks for creating it. Your delivery, performance and personality made it easy for me to watch so you didn't annoy me. ha ha ha. I have the same mini, 05 Mini R53 S - 6spd w/125+ miles. I agree with your review of the car features. I love my Mini and will keep mine as long as I can. I've owned a lot of cars including BMW, however, this car is the most fun and very zippy. Plus my dog (Pitt Bull) looks really cool riding with me and she fits perfect as my passenger. I have encountered several repairs to be aware if the time comes. I replaced the Supercharger which can cost $2k, I bought mine remanufactured for around $1300 which doesn't include the mechanic labor etc. I also replaced the "harmonic balancer" ($400) which I'm unsure if its a common issue or isolated to my car only. I want to mention this because I recommend this part be replaced or checked if you have any major engine parts are replaced. Both "harmonic balancer" and "supercharger" are not easily accessible so if possible, while the mechanic is in there, have it checked or replaced at the same time or you may be in for another major expense later. The brakes, brake sensors were replaced at 100k mls. The shocks will need to be replaced soon, its on my agenda. I replaced the fuel pump which I found from a Mini salvage place in Sacramento early this year for about $60. That was probably the most simple repair, though its kind of difficult getting to since its located under the passenger seats. I'm now in the process of replacing the fuel injectors. I suppose if cleaned it could prolong replacing them. Just a few items to keep in mind which I hope may be helpful. It may sound like a lot, however, owning a vehicle is a responsibility and has an expense, eventually, all car parts break down, its a matter of when.

By far the best Mini review I've found. Thank you! I''m in love with Minis and considering a 2005, JCW model that I found today, but it has 100,000km on it, and asking price is 9k. Otherwise, it's in mint condition and was previously owned by a Mini club member. I'm accustomed to leasing new cars, and would love to take the plunge on the mini but wondering if 10 years old with 100,00km it is asking for trouble (repairs etc). Any advice? How long do minis typically last?

I am amazed that they are able to get 162 lbs of torque at 1,250 RPM's out of the new 2014 3-cylinder. This is why I like BMW products so much over other car makers. The MINI is a beautifully designed car. Even the old 2005's age well. I saw a 2002 model with over 100,000 miles and it still looked almost brand new. You don't see a lot of cars age like that. This is why you pay extra for a MINI over something like a KIA or Hyundai. Wait until a KIA or Hyundai get 5 to 7 years old and you will see what I am talking about.

When you said that the mini interior was like a BMW with no hard cheap plastics I just laughed, basically the whole interior is hard cheap painted plastics. I find the plastic inside absolutely disgusting. However besides that I love my r50 mini, also great review.

+StrangeBobman Yeah. I got a 2012 base model about a month ago. The only thing I dislike about it is all the plastic inside. A bit odd when you compare it to how carefully designed everything else on the car seems to be.

@TheCarVlogger
@TheCarVlogger 10 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I saw it on another R53 I looked at and I really loved how aggressive it makes the front end look, very hot hatch. I can't remember the price but i believe it wasn't too bad either. The top section is a breeze to do but in order to change the lower one you need to actually remove the entire front bumper...such a stupid design to be honest but really not that complicated to do and it finishes it off so it needs to be done. Good luck! Oh and I haven't really looked into the new S' so I have no idea but if its just a badge is should be no problem I'm assuming.

Sweet!! You won't be disappointed I can assure you that. R53, R56, S, non S??Yeah but they're in a different segment than the MINI is in, both rwd and not a hatchback, the MINI is still a small economy car at heart. Yes they're valued at that but if you look on autotrader and ebay and see what they're actually selling for its higher than the KBB value says. They're not so many for sale under $8,000 but a majority are in the $10-15,000. Like I said, these hold their value really well, and with the new MINI getting bigger and heavier, these will probably stay that way as well. Enjoy your new car!

so in your opinion, an fr-s would be completely different to drive. i have an r 53 and plan on keeping it for at least 5 more years until i graduate and make serious money. so the question is, is the r53 more fun than an fr-s (never drove one yet) ?
@TheCarVlogger
@TheCarVlogger 10 жыл бұрын
They are very different cars thats for sure. I also have not ever driven an frs but one of my best friends has and he was very disappointed. He said it felt slow and sluggish because of the complete lack of torque and no power kicking in until 4 thousand rpm. But thats not my personal experience, the r53 on the other hand has loads of torque and power at any rpm. But my best advice would just be drive it yourself, you can read and watch all the reviews you want but nothing will be better than taking the keys and driving it.

Mauro Ribeiro Hey, 175.000 km is wel wat veel. Probeer onder de 100.000 km te kijken, dan heb je een goede mini waar je nog even mee vooruit kan!

Are these reliable? Is 220hp good for 2002 supercharged?
@ChimkenNuggers
@ChimkenNuggers 7 жыл бұрын
From the factory they did not make 220 horsepower. The closest is the 2002 mini cooper s "John Cooper works" version that made 200 hp. The car you are looking at has been either modified to make 220, or the person is lying.

Didn't know it was supercharged. Are BMW going back and forth between supercharged and turbocharged?
@TheCarVlogger
@TheCarVlogger 9 жыл бұрын
Andreas Elf BMW itself has never actually produced a supercharged car. Now through MINI, the R53(2001-2006) was supercharged in the S trim, then the S R56(2007-2013) and now all of the new F56 they've gone to the route of turbocharging and that's most likely what they'll continue to do. With such an emphasis on efficiency, it just makes sense to go with a turbo as they're better with consumption as well as emissions vs the superchargers, but it is a bit of shame that supercharged engine was such a blast!

Yep. I worked for KBB. Had a salesman try to tell me I was wrong with an appraisal once when I marked down the turbocharger as an option of an S model I booked. "S" is for sport package. Some are turbocharged and some are supercharged. I had to call the Used Car Manager over to point out how dumb the salesman was.

I'm right at 5'11 and I fit in the car no problem! It might be called a MINI but inside its much bigger than it looks, but go check one out and sit inside and see how you are:)

I'm 6'2, and fit in mine just fine. The skinny pedals being bunched up right next to each other took some getting used to, but the seats go all the way back up against the rear seats, and they can be adjusted down, Might as well take out your back seats, though, no one's fitting behind you.
