2005 nissan sentra instrument cluster

So I took my car to the shop and although my Nissan Sentra passed the cluster self diagnostics test , the gauges and odometer would go off and come back up as I was driving . An ODB2 reader was saying fuel and speed sensor but come to find out it was an electrical issue in the circuit board of the instrument cluster that needed soldered . The fuel and speed sensor did not need replaced, it was giving a false readings. It was your videos and another guy that help narrow down the problem. Thank you !!

Only a couple lights come on for my instrument cluster. When I first got it had a battery problem. So when I’d get a battery jump I could see everything. But then it would go back too the same problem. Do you have any clue what’s wrong.

so did running the self diagnostics test get your guages to all start working normally? my 06 sentra has the temperature guage sometimes shows hotter than it actually is. my diagnostics test tells me every guage is working correctly. I know once you run the diagnostics test and shut your car off, that is suppose to RESET the instrument cluster. however, I am not sure what that means. I am hoping just resetting the instrument cluster might fix the problem and get the temperature guage to display correctly.

Thank you Matt I had hoses thermostat water pump new fans put on which quit working but they couldn't fix the temperature gauge with your help I got mine fixed myself well it worked a day for me then back to not working OH well

Look like you have a compromised passenger front wheel going back toward the fender like my 02 Sentra

Thanks for the info. I am having issues with my cluster as well. The light behind the digital readout went out then the brake and battery light go on and off randomly plus rpm gauge gets stuck. Any ideas? Thanks

Thanks, Matt.. Yea, I've had an ongoing issue with my '06 1.8S Sentra with the temp gauge pinning all the way up at H.. I know it's not overheating, but I took it to AAMCO last week and they said it was most likely the thermostat.. $200 and a week later, it's still doin it so the guy said it was prolly the temperature gauge sensor and offered to replace it (free of charge this time).. however, NOW it's still doin it and so he's sayin it's gotta be the instrument cluster (which led me to this video) and that that's gonna run me a shit-ton of money, just in labor.. but I'm gonna go ahead n try out what you just demonstrated in this video n see if that doesn't fix the issue.. anyway, you're the fuckin man.. wish there were more mechanics/shops like yourself who actually have enough integrity to just fix the damn thing instead of trying to swindle people out of some extra money.. thanks so much, brother.

Matt Shaughnessy hey Matt.. damn dude.. so I mimicked everything you did in the video and it all worked on the first shot, no problem.. then I turned it back on, let it idle for about 5 minutes while watching the temp gauge and it didn't go past midway.. so far, so good.. then I take her for a spin for about 5min and get back to my house and it's STILL not climbing up all the way to H (still halfway; not at that 1/3rd range that I was used to seeing for so long, but I'll take it).. so at that point I'm thinkin "SWEET. Fuckin worked!" and I was stoked.. BUT.. unfortunately, I hopped in my car the next day and within 5min of driving I looked down and saw climbing all the way back up to H.. fuckin bummed man, really thought it did the trick.. you think I need to try it again or what? Any other suggestions? Thanks man..

Matt Shaughnessy and like I said, even the guy at AAMCO confirmed what I was pretty sure about in the fact that it wasn't overheating or anything.. that's why he figured it was a bad sensor, which he (supposedly) went ahead n replaced; however, the issue still persists and so that's when he said he thinks it's the entire instrument cluster that needs replacing.. *shrug*.. I dunno dude

Did you ever find out what was causing this issue with the dash cluster? I have the same exact car, 2004. My dash will randomly stop working. Every single Guage and even the odometer screen will stop working, back light still works but what's weird is when this happens the OD Off light will come on which makes no sense because my car is 6 speed manual. There is no over drive??? Unplugging the battery for a while usually fixes it but it just happened again and it won't work anymore no matter what I try.

I want to add... I tried doing to diagnosis but it doesn't seem to work. Probably because the odometer screen won't turn on.

@@theredbeardreport unfortunately I never did get it fixed. I ended up selling the car. Mechanics were telling me I needed a new ecu or wire harness. It wasn't worth it in my case. Car had many miles and was starting to rust out.

You just named everything wrong with my cluster. I have a bad fuel sensor and my gauges all keep dropping and coming back up when I hit bumps.

Just got an 02 Sentra ser spec v , is it normal for reverse to grind here and there? I'm planning to get it all checked out , but don't know anyone that knows what they're talking about , nor do I want to get ripped off lol... Also it leaks oil I'm assuming. Doesn't leak much but also feel like it's alot sometimes . Anxious to get it running smooth....

Thanks for the video! I have the same issue with my 05 Sentra, been driving with a non-functioning dashboard for some time now. Had a mechanic friend of mine try to fix it, turned out something needed soldering, but now it’s back out and I hate to bug him again. Do you know where I can find instructions on how to remove/replace the front panel?
