After installing my headers, I was a little uncomfortable with how close my cyl 1 pipe was to the alternator. After watching this video I picked up the heat shield and I can vouch for these guys. On top of what you had mentioned, they are very nice people with very good communication and they take a lot of pride in their products and work. I was surprised to learn each part is hand made to order. I really appreciate that I got email updates on the progress of my order, never had to wonder where my order was. I can’t express enough to support these guys and you’re getting a great product as well. :)

You forgot the most common problem with the QR25DE. Which is, not replacing the upper and lower timing chains, upper and lower timing chain tensioners, exhaust cam sprocket, and lower timing chain sprocket. That rattle you hear when you cold start your car. Yup thats the main QR25DE killer. Worn and stretched timing chains with worn sprockets. I'm currently replacing everything I mentioned as I speak. Not easy by any means though. No vids about the process as detailed that would help. I have all four engne mounts removed. Motor floating on Jack. Just about to put her back together. I'd say replace every 100,000 - 200,000 miles, depending how you drive the car. But boy do these parts wear.

How much would it cost to do this? I was quoted $1000 but on ebay theres a complete engine for $540. www.ebay.com/itm/2002-2006-NISSAN-2-5L-QR25DE-ENGINE-with-LOW-54K-MILES-for-ALTIMA-and-SENTRA/223247888069

@@teshikofurusato4541 no use in getting a new engine, you will have to change all that I've mentioned anyways. I didn't pull the motor, nor did I remove the upper oil pan. I got all the parts needed for $95 new, with the timing cover, which has the oil pump attached. I'm doing all the work myself, but this job is always quoted $1000 - $1500 due to lazy mechanics labor costs. Just remove all motor mounts. Place a Jack under the engine and push engine as far as possible towards the driver side. You will have enough room to get to your timing chains. Important note, you have to change the main crankshaft and exhaust cam gears as they wear wi th the chains. Some mechanics will remove your balancer shafts or just cut the lower chain to the balancer shaft, rtv the oil pan and charge you full price. It does nothing to fix the problem whatsoever, so beware.

Another thing that is a must if you are going to drive them hard is to eliminate the balancer shaft. There is a kit made for it. If you don't at some point it might seize and it will cost you a new engine. If you are as lucky as I was. My balancer shaft gears broke so quick that it actually saved the engine. Still the oil catched a gray-ish color and a bunch of gear particles where in the oil pan and even got to the cylinderhead.

The alternator has never been an issue for me either as most have commented, as a matter of fact the original alternator that came with the car from factory is still good and sits in a corner of my garage after being replaced for an upgrade. I also installed the DC headers when they first came out years ago and still had no issues for years before doing a VQ swap a couple of years ago and I still have no issues with that one either. I've never had any problems with my Spec other than wheel bearings and its been 16 years. I think a whole lot of you are buying used Specs with tons of problems or are stuck with Specs that has taken beatings. Either I am the luckiest man on earth, or maybe I did the factory maintenance at proper intervals at the dealership every time it was due and gladly paid for it - you decide............and no its not for sale!

Yo!!! Awesome video. I'm switching to an aftermarket manifold on my 03 Altima. I actually had a qr25 seize up while going 80 on the highway and since it was over 10 yrs ago they were still kinda expensive so i went the jdm route and got a qr20. The car has sit for over 5 yrs and im trying to make it road ready and clear all the codes and get it smoother. The last step that I think I have is to add that shield since I read the factory one won't fit and to use a spacer to fool the ecu so I don't throw a code. gonna look into the butterfly screws also. thanks! u got a new sub!

Cool video. I've been turning wrenches for 15 years and have always owned Nissans. Still have my S13 convertible, B14 200SX, and B15 06 Spec-V. I've been driving my 06 Spec-V since I bought it in 2008 @10k and now it has 240k 11 years later. I only run Ardeca 5w30 and never had any issues yet. Still have factory alternator, exhaust manifold, water pump, and clutch/flywheel. I have replaced LR wheel bearing and rear calipers, but that's all stuff that wears out sooner. At 250k I'm doing a rebuild as it's starting to get some cold chain noise so I can go another 250k. If you take care of Nissan's they'll take care of you. My 95 200SX I've had for 15 years has 409k on it now and is only on it's 2nd clutch, but is getting fender rust everywhere these days.

I'm glad I did all that I did to my QR engine. They are amazing engines, just gotta work out the stupid shit Nissan did. @ri$erboi I'd recommend to one and all with the plenum, to just convert over to the b16 plenum. Why have a remote change of screws going in, when you could have absolute 0 chance. Not just that, but the power gangs from it, are amazing for NA application. Thanks for the video and information. I bought a 2005 nissan x trail SE . It has the same engine. I have very little knowledge about car engines. 1. It seems to get very hot inside the engine, especially close to the alternator. The temp gauge on the dash goes upto 50% and stays constant. How can I know if it is getting too hot. Can one put some kind of thermometer in there. 2. I put the fan on and turned the temp control knob to max cool without turning on the ac. It was a warmish day and I only drove around 45 minutes and warm air coming through the vents ..a slight burning smell. This is what alarmed me and trying to figure out if it is too hot. Hence question 1. Appreciate your reply. Btw on this vehicle engine was replaced . One of the issues on previous engine was screws coming of as you described.

Awesome video bro. We are all being taken advantage of by the car manufacturers that sell us these cars. Regardless of state and specially in California. The system is designed to fail and cost us thousands in repair bills Car maker's make more money in Repairs, than they make in the selling of vehicles. Knowledgeable people, like the young man that made this video, need to put them on blast. Show people in video, how to avoid the problems that the car makers create. They know the fail points. Look at the young man's engine here in this video. it's a qr25, that they continue to put in cars after his for years, without any protection on the alternator They did addressed the intake. But NOT the alternators. BS huh? I have a car that has two cats on it. Each of them cost $1,200 and can only be purchased from the dealership. Because it needs to have a CARB stamp in California (CARB California Air Resource Board) Nissan and Carb won't let another manufacture make them in CA. Total BS. That same exhaust with the Catalytic Converter is $300 in Arizona. Nissan admits, and so do ALL other car manufacturers, that there engines burn oil. It says it in the manual. It's great that this young man is showing people that they need to put a catch can in between their PCV and their intake manifold. Has anybody reading this, ever cleaned your throttle bod, intake manifold, spark plugs, or your combustion chamber?????. It's all burnt oil/ carbon deposits. Once it gets past the combustion chamber, it ruins your catalytic converter Bro. I don't mean to offend you by what I have to say next about your particular car but I think it will be a plus for your Sentra.That puny catch can you have is way too small. Do some more research on them and buy two in concession. Or buy one aluminum big one they sell for turbo cars. & add another PCV. You can mount them anywhere. Also bro, extend your cold air pipe and take it downward, just below the headlight. You're robbing your engine of the purpose of a cold air intake by leaving it in the hot area. I would also recommend that you use heat wrap on your exhaust manifold , then wrap the pipes down just past your firewall. Use the gold sticker heat shield on the inside of stock heat shield. Clean them real good with a wire wheel and then clean with alcohol before using the sticker stuff. I would love for you to show people and create a special videos on why every vehicle and every engine needs a good catch can, if not two of them. People need to realize what PCV means. They also need to realize what Vacuum means. Please use any engine in your video and show how much vacuum is being sucked into the intake. Most vehicles have restrictor pieces inside those vacuum hose, to restrict the vacuum, because it's so strong. Use a vacuum checker Show the people. Use a pressure gauge after the PCV. Ot will blow your mind just at idle. Imagine 5K RPM Everyone needs to realize How much pressure is being pushed through the PCV one-way valve Then combine that with the vacuum force of a being sucked into your intake. All those pollutants are being sucked out so strongly. It contaminate your intake, your throttle body, & ruins your spark plugs. It adds carbon build up in your combustion chambers, to the tops of your Pistons and your valves. After all of that...... whatever oil that didn't fry already & gets through all that proces... Guess where it goes people. It drizzles down your exhaust pipe to your 300° to 1200°degree Catalytic converters. If the first converter & or 02 sensor doesn't bake the oil on it's Precious Metal Honeycombs, that Catalytic Converters are designed and made with. ( for others reading this. Yes, catalytic converters are made of precious metals.) If the oil gets past the 1st Cat. It will get burned in the second catalytic converter. EVERY vehicle, regardless of make. Needs to have catch cans, If not two of them. if car manufacturers would just put one large catch can on ALL cars with a sensor. It could be drained during oil changes. WHAT A CONCEPT!! Here on KZbin there is a gentleman that used Moroso catch can along with another brand after it. He was able to catch pollutants in both cans on a 5K test. That test was done on a newer GMC LS V8. Had the man put a pcv on each valve cover he would have picked up even more. Pollutants. Young man, please realize I wasn't just talking to you but two other people that made read my comment I encourage you and I will ask you please make a video letting people know what to do and how to make their car last a long time even if they just bought it. Make one for every manufacturer. put them all on blast because this PCV vacuum system is costing the public millions of dollars. I for one am SICK OF IT!!!! Oh, could you please make an additional video for everyone about VVT solonoids. Just about every vehicle has them now. Teach about a dirty VVT solenoid and what havoc it can create. How to clean them with map sensor spray, & test them with a 9v battery. Let people know how cheap it is, and how it can cause so many misdiagnosis's and cost them hundreds, if not thousands of dollars. show people that they can go straight to many parts manufacturers to get their parts cheap. Instead of the Auto Parts place down the street, or the dealer. Like Denso for example: They sell straight to the public, and it's way cheaper than the dealer or any auto parts store. If you want to pay a 75% markup go ahead and go straight to the dealer and get your DENSO OEM part. Lol Please people, we have this amazing thing in our hand and in our homes to be able to access the internet. Use it!!!!! Research. There's probably a video about it. I also have a lot of information on how to make CVT transmissions last, get more hp, & get awesome fuel mileage. Better than stock. But my novel is a bit long already.

Sometimes you get a lemon. I bought my 04 3.5 v6 off Craigslist(not the best idea, I know) it hauled ass and looked really good, it was black but it was a lemon. I got into an accident, got more money from insurance than I paid but bought an 06 2.5. I've had the 06 for 7 years and it's been a really good car

@@crw5536 anything below an 07, youd really consider looking for a different car. Unless you find one with no more than 50k miles than sure, by all means daily it. But 180k? Nooo, get something else. At the end of the day, from experience. Your better off getting the newer gen, preferably 08 to 12. If not, just get another vehicle. I learned first hand the vq25 motor from 06 down weren't the best, nor the most reliable

@@SeanA88 I was too lazy or did i have the knowledge, i could have changed my spark plugs , gotten a new battery an alternator, motor and transmissions mounts and a new oil pan. But nissan cost ALOT to repair. Its stupid. I bought a 98 Chevy tahoe with almost 300k miles and my gosh it runs beautifully. Replaced just about everything on the dam thing but the motor and transmission, and I love it... more miles more smiles hahahah

The pre catalyst going into my engine cost my over $4000! The inherent radiator/transmission problem cost me another $3000. Sadly Nissan is at fault but refuses to admit their errors.

Not sure if anyone knows but is it Possible to stick and fit a second gen qr25de into a b15 frame? I wanted to make my Sentra into a project car but I wanna avoid a first gen engine.
@baymaac1975
@baymaac1975 5 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately no the blocks are different but the internals are the same and so if you ever had a 1st gen qr25de dismantled you can instead of rebuilding with gen 1 parts go ahead and use Gen 2 parts. The only problem is you will have to drill a hole in the headgasket from the Gen 2 to allow oil to flow but they have instructions and a write up on b15u.com
@keaflord
@keaflord 5 жыл бұрын
You can slap a gen2 qr25de in a b15 frame. You need a custom midpipe, header, and crossmember along with some other stuff that just costs money. My buddy Calvin harden has done the swap no problem. Nisformance tuned his car. And my friend Caleb is in the middle of the gen 2 swap.

@trssho91
@trssho91 5 жыл бұрын
Check with Nissan on the butterfly screws, there is a recall for them so you can get the dealer to fix that. If you dont have a recall you may not have the buttery screw issue. Mid way through 2005 Nissan changed the screw design and started loctiting them from the factory. Only late 2005s and all 2006s are ok, so most se-r & spec v have the issue. I have a late 2006 (August 2006 so mine is literally one of the last B15s made and they did fix a lot off issues by the time my car was built). As far as the precat goes, no one gets by ok there. I removed mine completely and installed headers and then installed a o2 spacer so I don’t have the check engine light. What happens is these cars / engines don’t have a EGR valve. They instead have the exhaust valves linger open as the piston goes back down drawing exhaust gas back into the cylinder. It’s a passive EGR system. As someone who also owns a KA24DE based Altima who’s on their third intake manifold gasket due to the egr port burning out the intake manifold gasket, it’s not the worst idea I’ve seen, lol. Anyway, as the catalytic converter breaks down it comes apart into a sand like material. Combine that with the passive egr system I just described and you are basically sand blasting your valves and cylinder walls/rings. It’s not usually an instant catastrophic failure, but gradual increasing oil consumption and compression loss until it all becomes too much for the engine. It took me some time to finally get a clear answer on what is specifically happening, I was told all this by a friend who is a service manager at a Nissan dealership, so I figured I’d share.... TL;DR , get that precat our of there ASAP because it is a time bomb that will destroy your engine 100%
