It's weird seeing under center with 2TE or FB the vast majority of snaps. Texas hadn't gone all out to shotgun option the way I remember this offense from rewatching 06 Rose Bowl so many times. Late in the 1st half so far you can see why this is a dinosaur way to play; most runs are 2-3 yards. ALTHOUGH; Texas' run blocking leaves alot to be desired. The Michigan Front 7 is BIG and really good run stuffers; but I'm seeing cut blocks by pulling OL where the result is simply laying down in front of LBs. Vince Young made bad reads on the few read options.

When I returned from the 2005 Rose Bowl I saw McConaughey comment at half time that the Michigan offense was "one dimensional." There was some truth to that, but McConaughey's keen observation was ironic given that his beloved Texas offense was even more one-dimensional, in that it consisted almost entirely of Vince Young. Nobody else on the entire Longhorn offense did virtually anything-not even the heralded Cedric Benson, who was bottled up all day. If not for a nearly-muffed, fluttering last second field goal by a kicker who'd previously gone 5 for 9, Texas would have lost its first Rose Bowl. But they didn't, so McConaughey was able to keep his illusion of having no idea what a tool he is. Thankfully, Mack Brown has some class.

A few production notes, albeit critical......we expect much better on this Rose Bowl stage: The opening CU one shot of the announcer intro'ing into the Disneyland stuff: horrendous microphone technique for visual presentation....his floor director or director should be the one who should have had him pull back and give space between the top of the micr. and his mouth. Looked terribly amateurish to the viewing audience of a game of this magnitude. Todd Harris did it right, though, in his interviews w/ decent micr. presentation technique. Also, the crowd noise was too loud at times, making it hard to hear what Keith was saying. Keith had a tendency to talk in low hushed tones at times, and the audio man should have balanced the audio levels better. Crowd noise, though viscerally satisfying to the audio man, should always be below the audio level of the announcers. If you have to strain to hear the announcers, then the crowd noise needs to be brought down to a lower volume. Fouts was quite good, but sometimes seemed louder and w/ more high tones than Keith. That's also another area where the audio man should have been on top of things; and the director of the whole production also should have brought it to the attention of the audio guy, so the director is also to blame on the audio issue.
