2005 Suzuki RM125 Shift Problem

2005 Suzuki RM125 shift problem. My RM125 won't shift into second gear. RM125 won't shift past first gear. The bike would run and shift into first, but would not shift past second when running or off and stationary. I never did end up fixing this problem and sold it as it was. It was most likely a bent selector or pin further inside the gear system.

Hey everyone just thought I would post an update, I sold that bike as is. It turned out it was actually a 07 RM125 after the buyer ran the VIN #. I never got it fixed. When the problem first arose it would fix itself for a couple hours of ride time then it would come back. This happened a couple times. I think it was either a shift fork or a selector. If anyone else has this problem I hope you get it fixed! And no even when you spin the crank it didn't go into past 1st gear! :)

Are you shifting up without using the clutch? Before the bike broke down?

my bikes is doing the same thing... when it is running it grinds when i try for second and nothing happens, when i have it apart it is doing what ur bike is, i dont get what the problem is, i dont see anything damaged in the transmission

turn the crank around - when the bike is running the gears are spinning this allows the gears to connect and shift

I had the same problem, I ended up with 3rd/4th driven gears having excessive wear & a snapped selector fork. Cost me around £200 for the parts. I have since found out this is a common issue with Suzuki.

Yes suzuki has issues with transmissions for their atvs too..

So mine is stuck in between 3rd and 4th I only goes into 3rd I have a 88 rm 250

You have to turn the motor around of course it want go in to gear the gears have splines and have to fall in the splins if your trying to run through all the gears it will not happen with out turning the motor over some you might catch a couple gears but not all of them sitting still

Ok so I have a 2003 rm125 and my wouldn’t shift from 1st to 2nd and I was just popping it in and out of gear while it was on the stand and one time it made a weird delayed sound and now it can shift from 1st to 6th fine but it can’t shift from 2nd to 1st I’m not sure what the problem is does anyone know?

Just finished fixing mine. Had the same problem....after hours of inspecting, and resetting the shift cam stopper.....it turned out to be the stud bolt that the shift pawl sits on....it wasn't torqued down all the way; it had enough play that it kept it from shifting into second gear

bro pleas ehelpl me figure it out my clutch broke off i had to powershift home den da next week wouldnt crank den figured out it needed oil den i put a percentage of marine 2cycle oil n my crank emtpy it when i notice then put 4t racing oil n my bike like a jack ass now my shifter stuck..any suggestions

Did it work fine then all of a sudden stop shifting? We're the cases split for internal work? Ever find any missing parts? Just a few questions I'd ask.

Yes worked fine then all of a sudden wouldn't shift past first, fixed itself a couple occasions but then did the same thing. Ended up selling it as it was.

Never ended up fixing it, sold it as it was and never contacted the buyer after.

That center wheel in the back that moves when you shift has a pin and a pin groove that needs to line up its hard to explain over this but you need to put your bike in neutral then line up the pin with the pin groove as well as put that wheel on neutral took me 3 hours to figure it by myself if you cant get it let me know ill email you or skype or something

Some of those are only 5 gears and not 6. You may have a 5 speed transmission on your bike! Hope this helps! 😀
