Was so excited for Carnell "Cadillac" Williams in 2005. And as the time went on, I was mad we did not pick Rodgers instead. Imagine him with Gruden and Kiffin running the defense.

Chucky gets frustrated with young quarterbacks because they can't learn his complicated playbook as fast as a veterans. Knowing Gruden he would have scared Rodgers off.

Great upload. Seems that Bucs team 1999-2006 could've won multiple SB's if they had a big-time QB

What I don't understand is how people treat Gruden's run in Tampa as a failure. As a Raiders fan, seeing what he did was better than any magic act. That team was aging when he arrived...they were in absolute win now mode. And he got it done. It's always 'Dungy's team'. Well he did what Dungy could NEVER DO..beat the Eagles in Philly. Smoked them in the NFC title game, then shut them out to start the 2003 season. So even as guys like Keyshawn and Brad Johnson and Sapp and Lynch and so much of the core of that team was phased out, they managed to piecemeal a competitive team after a modest one year rebuild and were right back in the postseason. Then after bottoming out in 2006 because of absolute shit QB play, he gets them RIGHT BACK to the playoffs in 2007 with old Jeff Garcia. They lost to the eventual Super Bowl champion Giants. And they would have AGAIN been in the playoffs in 2008 if it wasn't for Jamarcus Russell for the ONE TIME in his life, playing like a #1 overall pick. But let's see...in the nine years since Gruden was fired, how many times have the Bucs been to the postseason? That's right, ZERO! The notion that Gruden is overrated is ridiculous when you use some context...especially with the lack of draft picks he had to begin with.

He definately deserves credit for making the offense at least competent to match the greatest defense ever. Shame he was never able to get a running game going. Just imagine if he had a running game like other great defenses like 1985 Bears, 2000 Ravens or 2013 Seahawks had.

bowlchamps37 If only he had a elite QB the Bucs would had a potent offense and would have had back to back playoff appearances reason the Bucs here inconsistent is because they have no franchise QB

Im curious as to where you sourced this, was it a DVD or a VHS tape? I have tracked down VHS tapes for season reviews of most of the years from 1993-2003, and the other ones are the ones you have uploaded, so i assume this is the same. I was just curious on if this one from 2005 was also from a VHS tape or if they started making season reviews on DVD. Thanks for the awesome uploads!

No matter how inconsistent the Bucs where after the Super Bowl days Jon Gruden and the Bucs has their flashes in 2005 and 2008 in their playoff appearance not bad actually it wasn’t until Gruden left that the Bucs became a downhill team

This season still hurts. We were back in the playoffs and I really thought we were going deep in the postseason. The Bucs still had their Super Bowl winning coach, the presumed quarterback of the future in Chris Simms, and just like the Super Bowl the defense was ranked number one. I thought the Redskins playoff game was just a formality since Tampa had already beaten them in the regular season. I look forward to the Bucs finally getting another playoff win to get this sour taste out of my mouth.

Why weren't the Bucs ever able to make a playoff push after 2002? I'm under the impression that the defense naturally regressed without it's main architect (Dungy), and the lack of draft picks from the Gruden trade hurt them.
@MikeP813
@MikeP813 6 жыл бұрын
Yes that hurt as well as horrible drafting, injuries and a stagnant offense when we did go back to the playoffs in 2005 and 2007.
@manuginobilisbaldspot424
@manuginobilisbaldspot424 6 жыл бұрын
Because like many teams, their core basically had their run in 2002. By 2004. Lynch and Sapp were gone. So were Brad and Keyshawn Johnson, McCardell, and Jurevicius. Alstott was a shell of himself. Dexter Jackson went from Super Bowl MVP to a back up upon returning. In short, they got old...and much like the 90's Cowboys, weren't able to restock the cupboard. Unlike the Cowboys, it was in part because they didn't have those picks the first couple of years. Gruden getting back to the postseason with Chris Simms, Brian Griese and Jeff Garcia was pretty miraculous in hindsight.

adjr90 you need a Quarterback in order to win in the NFL. It's that simple. If you start Chris Simms in a playoff game, you're gonna lose.

21:54 "You suck ref, that's bull___" A lot of people in the stadium were like that afterwards, but alas, it wasn't a catch by the rules. That was a screwy day anyway. The team emailed out a Ticketmaster code on Monday morning for TB fans and people on the TB season ticket waiting list so they could get first dibs. But the code got leaked all over Washington-area sports radio stations, and Redskins fans gobbled up tons of tickets and flooded the stadium. It was an ugly game in all ways. Still not sure to this day that the fumble (that WAS returned for a TD) was a fumble...looked like his knee was down.
@MikeP813
@MikeP813 6 жыл бұрын
I remember this game like it was yesterday. That "fumble" should not have been a fumble and would have changed the complexity of the game and it wouldn't have had to come down to the refs ruling an incomplete pass on Edell Shepherd's "catch". Still makes me angry to this day as does the '99 NFC Championship game against the Rams with the Bert Emanuel "catch".
