In May 2005, the "CBS Evening News" profiled a new website that was taking college campuses by storm. At the time it was called thefacebook.com. In this report from our archives, former CBS News correspondent Sandra Hughes talked to students about the social network and interviewed the company's young leader -- Mark Zuckerberg.

I find it kinda interesting when the reporter mentioned “you need a college email to sign up”, this means Facebook was only exclusively available to college students back then which actually makes sense with the context of Mark’s original intention to make Facebook, and it also shows how far the current Facebook has strayed away from said original intention

I was in college when I had the chance to create my first account. I had MySpace at the time and found it better than Facebook. It was more personal and less invasive, if that even makes sense. Social media took an immediate and drastic turn when Facebook came on the scene. I distinctly remember my first turnoff of Facebook was the tagging and identification of people's faces. Seemed so bizarre to me but now biometrics are everywhere. All cool and creepy at the same time.

God dammit, other things have changed but this antiquated/insufferable "reporter voice" still hasn't. Also that painting behind Mark, made the artist David Cho worth $200 million via Facebook stock. Cho chose stock over $60,000 cash for the mural.
