2006-2011 Toyota Camry Cabin Air Filter Replacement -EricTheCarGuy

This cabin air filter replacement video applies to the XV40 generation of Toyota Camrys. The information in this video will also apply to some other Toyota models of the same vintage.
It's a simple process and doesn't require a lot of tools. It can also save you a great deal of money replacing this maintenance item yourself. Not to mention it will help keep the air inside your vehicle free from contaminants.
The average replacement interval is every 15K, sometimes as low as 10K based on the air quality where the vehicle is being used.

Wow, that looked so simple compared my 2015 Altima which I had to remove 8 screws to remove the glove compartment. Even after that the filter housing was not easy to get to. Thanks for the great video!

Why the air filter's arrow is pointing down and the covers arrow is pointing up?

hawk362_Prince air filter has to point down, but the cover for it only fits going up. It's confusing but they are basically not correlating.

just changed the cabin filter in my moms 07 camry...she never changed it since she got the car...i could barely pull the old filter out there were leaves, pollen, and all types of crap stuffed on the filter and in the filter bay...

I've retracted the two plastic clips on the sides of the cover, but I can't get the cover off. I've used a pair of pliers to try to pull the cover off, but I can't get it off. I guess the filter has not been change in ten years, so it's probably stuck. Any suggestions?

Many quick change oil places take the liberty of removing your glove box and checking or maybe swapping your air filter with a dirty one and bringing the issue of replacing same to your attention. Just saying... incase there is information or other items in your glove box you do not wish repair staff to have access to. Filter quality varies !!!!! Most filters FLOW one way. I prefer the toyota cabin filter And the Toyota air filter is far superior to many store bought. Change you own Super simple and typically super funky if ignored. . .

I just want to clear it up if you buy OEM Toyota cabin air filter, the arrow should be pointing UP ( this is not the air flow) but if you buy aftermarket product than you have to point the arrow down based on the air flow!

Edward Konaniah Are you sure the airflow is actually downward? When I reach inside to feel the air I can feel the air is going up and the fan is below the filter tray.

Thanks for sharing! like others, the dealership wanted mucho bucks for this change out as well as the engine air filter. The only issue I had since this is my first time doing it, is the arrows involved can be a little confusing. The arrow on the cover panel points up whereas when you put the filter in you want that air flow arrow to point down. After I researched and have a better understanding of the air flow coming from the engine it makes sense to put the air filter arrow downward, where as the panel cover arrow goes up.

I pulled the damper off by accident. Luckily, I don't think I broke anything. The damper has three holes -- two that go up toward the dash, and the one that attaches to the glove box. But when I was putting the damper back on, I could only find one pin up toward the dash to affix it, and of course the one pin on the glove box. Seems that there should be another pin for the third hole on the damper toward the dash. Problem is that it's hard to see in that space: so I'm not sure if I broke one of the pins, maybe the damper has an extra hole, or maybe I just don't see it. Can someone please let me know?

+MarloStanfield767 You will regret it when the AC condensate drain blocks up with leaves and crap, then your whole AC unit will fill up with water and overflow onto the carpets through the feet vents. Look up, how to unblock ac drain Toyota Camry. You'll see the mess that can happen.

+headcas620 I don't know about that. When were looking for a new car for the wife (replacing her 2003 prizm/corolla) we looked at a LOT of stuff. We found the Camry to be the absolute best car in it's category. It's quiet, rides well, handles well, and in the higher trim is quite luxurious.

+dom why it is, airflow in that car goes from top to bottom of the filter assembly. what's confusing is that the arrow on the cover points in the opposite direction. the previous generation had an actual tray for the filter and its less confusing.

I'm so confused whether it should be pointed up or down. I have an aftermarket one and the directions say "install the new cabin air filter into the housing with the arrow facing up" but then the words on the filter would be upside down. Can anyone be more specific? I have the aftermarket ones with activated carbon so one side is dark and one side is white. From taking out the old one, the words were upside down with arrows pointing up. Leaf debris was found on top so I am guessing airflow is going from top to bottom.
