In this video I show you how I removed my coil packs and spark plugs from my 2007 Toyota Yaris. This video simply shows you how I removed these parts. I am in no way shape or form responsible if you break, injure, or damage anything while working on your vehicle.
Tools Needed
10mm Socket
3" 1/4" Extension
1/4" Ratchet
5/8 Spark Plug Socket
6-8" Extension
3/8" Ratchet
This procedure should be very similar if not identical to the Scion xA, 1st Generation Scion xB, and Toyota Echo.

Hi I'm sorry for just now replying. Unfortunately we don't have the 2NZFE motor here, however you need to check for spark, and make sure that you are getting fuel to the engine. Just because you put a new fuel pump in it doesn't necessarily mean that it couldn't be bad. We've seen them before be dead on arrival. Good luck on your project!

I'm going to do my 2015 Yaris same engine. the layout is like pretty much identical. yeah, I am going to use the OEM recommended denso plugs. I'm right at well just over 100,000 mi on it. probably don't have to change them but I just feel like I want to do it.

Is it pivotal to only use Denso sk16r11 or are they equal equivalents? Just hard to find locally for me in Canada. Would have to order online which would take a while. But that is the plug that is in my car when I pulled it out to check. Also do they come pre gapped?
@TheInteriorAutoMechanic

@@wt8213 check with your local parts store to see if they have a crossover part # to an NGK plug that should be ok as well. Also, they should be pregapped already.

Is there a certain way I install the new spark plugs my dad asked me what’s the gap I don’t even know what that means, if I get the right spark plugs for my Yaris I just screw in the new spark plugs and put on the ignition coils and it’s good right? And thanks for the video homie
@TheInteriorAutoMechanic
@TheInteriorAutoMechanic 11 ай бұрын
Hi there, the gap your dad is talking about is from the distance between the diode on the end of the spark plug to the metal prong at the tip. On older cars you had to set the gap. However, on this car as long as you get the correct plugs for it, they should come pre-gapped and you do not need to set the gap for them most likely. Just double check with your part shop that you're getting them from and make sure. They'll be able to tell you if they are pregapped or not.

Two tips for yall from my own experience swapping the plugs. 1) Clean the top of the engine (particularly around the plug holes) with compressed air and/or a vacuum cleaner before removing the coils as to not allow debris to fall inside the spark plug hole. Also clean the spark plug well after removing the coil and before removing the plug. 2) dont throw the old plugs immediately in the trash! analyze the plugs for tell tale signs of engine issues and note which plug came from which cylinder! There is a lot of content online that will help you "read" a spark plug and better understand the state of your engine

Hi my car Yaris 2003 reg is lacking power upon acceleration it seemed like it accelerates and there is a delay before the car reacts. I last year changed one of the coil packs because it was identified as a misfire on cylinder 3 which resolved the issue for a while. Since the car has done 1.5k miles and I've never changed the spark plugs should I change them now.

Personally I just always go until they feel tight enough. I know that isn't the proper specs that's just what I do. You don't want to over tighten them or under tighten them. I'd recommend looking up torque specs and using them if you aren't sure.

Can you tell me what color wires go where on the ignition connector for #1 cylinder?
@TheInteriorAutoMechanic
@TheInteriorAutoMechanic 2 жыл бұрын
You won't want to go strictly off color, this can change from car to car because of manufacturing differences. For instance say they ran out of red/white coated wire they could simply replace that with green/yellow or any other color. The color typically does not mean much. I would highly recommend getting a Haynes manual or contacting your Toyota dealer and letting them handle it to make sure the wires don't get crossed to the wrong ones. If you do cross them it's a very good way to fry some electronics. Good luck on your project!

The Toyota Yaris is absolutely one of the most durable vehicles ever built in my opinion. The easiest way to figure out which one is bad is to replace the spark plug first since they are pretty cheap if your problem still occurs after doing this it is most likely your coil pack. The coil packs are a very common issue. Be sure to only buy genuine denso coil packs not the cheap knockoffs. Thank you for the sub :)

Shouldn't matter which coil you put where as long as the wires go to the correct cylinder. Fortunately, the length of each wire should give you a good hint as to which one goes where. It's probably a good idea to mark the wires or at least take a picture before disassembly. Or do what I did and only work on one plug at a time, reinstalling the coil pack after installing the new plug.

hey man, hows that yaris build looking? have an 07 manual liftback. Im thinking of removing the trunk carpet and spare tire etc to make some more cargo area. Would it be too noisy? While idling, the car is inconsistent in its rpms. is that normal? It drives fine. Starting up, sometimes it takes 1 second and sometimes 3-4 secs of cranking. But always starts up. Something I should be worried about? Bought the car with 150k miles, its just a car I'm going to have for 2-3 years so don't want to spend too much money on it. Is there any maintenance I should be looking at? Again, drives fine. Would appreciate any advice. Love what you got got going on here.

Hey thanks for checking in! The yaris build will be starting very very soon. I know I have said this multiple times but I'm just waiting on the timing to be right to start the build so that I have all the parts in hand and can simply bolt everything up and go. If you would like please subscribe to the channel so you can get updates as the build continues. We will be having multiple episodes of the build this year. And hopefully some track videos as well. As far as your car goes I would recommend cleaning the throttle body and cleaning the map sensor. Be sure to get specific map sensor electronic cleaner. All you have to do to clean the throttle body is disconnect your battery, remove the top of your air box and then remove the intake hose that goes to the throttle body. Once you do that you can clean the inlet to the throttle body and open the butterfly valve to the throttle body and wipe out in there with a clean towel. You could also use a little bit of part cleaner on it and wipe it out multiple times. What you're going for is you want to get as much black gunk out of your throttle body as possible. Once you do all that and get it back together reconnect your battery start the car and let it idle in neutral with the parking brake on for roughly 5 minutes so that it can relearn its idle. To clean your map sensor all you need to do is first of all located. It will be in between the air box and the throttle body on the intake hose. You should see a sensor that has two Phillips screws holding it in and a plug going to it. You need to again disconnect your battery, unplug the sensor, unscrew the two small Phillips screws holding it on, remove it be very gentle with it and then spray your map sensor cleaner on it. Then reinstall it once it is dry and reconnect your battery. As far as maintenance goes on these cars they are very tough and dependable. If you keep the oil changed and then just do basic maintenance as needed it will take care of you. I've seen these cars go well over 400,000 mi on the stock motor and transmission. Keep your oil checked in between oil changes top off if needed. Change your oil every 3,000 mi. This is crucial, plenty of people will tell you you can go 5,000 mi on an oil change or more but please trust me on this. You will thank me in the long run.

@@TheInteriorAutoMechanic I can't wait to see your build! Thanks so much for the reply. Will be working on the throttle body and maf sensor sometime in the coming weeks. What oil would you recommend? @@adilrao you can just run conventional or synthetic blend. Just because it looks ok to the eye doesn't mean it's ok to run. Oils break down and get pollutants in them from driving in different conditions which will build up sludge over time. If you do it every 3000 miles you will help prevent wear. Also, yes there is manual gear oil only get Toyota Genuine transmission fluid/oil. Whatever they tell you it takes at the dealership just buy it.

Hi Leticia Garcia, The reason I make the videos the way that I do is so that you don't have to sit there and watch me turn a wrench for an unspecified amount of time. I like giving the shorthand version of the job because most of the people that are watching the video already know how to turn a wrench and they don't need to watch me do that. I tried to tell people any headache spots that I ran into to simplify their job. I'm sorry you did not find the video helpful however many others have. It might be best in your case to just take it to a mechanic shop and let them fix it. Good luck

There are two schools of thought here. If you create content on youtube you see the average viewership time, which is like 30 seconds before people drop off. So people create for brevity. And then there's people doing projects step by step with the instruction video as they go, when edits happen they're totally lost.
