You are the man.... You literally saved me $800 bucks. Thats how much they try to tax me. I took of the fan in minutes and about 30 min to open the housing and identify the cold soldering. Now it works perfect. Thanks again much

Similar setup on my ML55, but with a "remote" fan controller, located on the shroud. I was able to use a blow torch (propane) on the backside of the housing/aluminum heatsink, and the whole logic board assembly just basically fell out. I then replaced ALL of the large capacitors, put it all back together w/ silicone sealant, and it has been working perfectly for over a year now. Mentioning this because this info is NOWHERE to be found on the net.

Where did you source the capacitors? A fellow ML55 owner here.
@Johnathan_Waters2 жыл бұрын
@@krisperkreme6021 I buy all my capacitors from Mouser or Digi-key (ONLY). I am an MB mechanic and a (component level) electronics repair specialist, so the quality is of the utmost importance to me! Glad I'm not the only one keeping their ML55 alive!

@@krisperkreme6021 Any electronic parts store should be able to get any caps or other parts you need, its all super cheap these things. Unfortunately, many have gone out of business in the last couple years so online is the only sources for some and only is a pain in the ass and more expensive if you don't buy in bulk.

@Johnathan_Waters Жыл бұрын
@@kliv-ng6uy You can. But if it's already stopped working, then it will probably need more than just capacitors. In other words, find a new controller.

Thank you! You have saved me a lot of time. I was trying to find the plug wiring diagrams online. I thought the green wire might be the PWM SIGNAL, but wasn't sure. You did a fine job, no thanks to Mercedes. I always appreciate ingenuity. Mercedes wiring diagrams are hard to find and virtually indecipherable to anyone not trained by Mercedes.

Charles Madsen, the first thing I tested was the fan itself. That saved me a lot of time. I ran leads from my battery to alligator clips on the fan and....nothing....there you go.

Your video was absolutely incredible! You should resubmit it and add BMW, Range Rover, etc.. I am very like you in the fact that I think its ridiculous how they try to burn us with these stupid fan designs! I pulled my BMW fan and popped it open...instead of buying the new one for $700 I re-flowed the solder (after testing with multimeter) and BINGO! Fan is fixed! Thank You Sir!

I pulled my fan last night, and Thank You Jesus, the motor and controlling unit is not cased in plastic, they are screwed together. I think my repair job will be much easier than yours. First thing I noticed is that the motor is filthy and grinds when I turn it, either it is burnt up, or just needs to be cleaned badly; that is where I will start.
@pfsantos0072 ай бұрын
Mercedes used to use a simple relay (maybe a couple) to control the fans. Of course that was too simple, so now it's a signal modulated control. Why? Because they wanted to save power, noise, and make the fan speed more adjustable. As always, great on paper and somewhat commendable, if you give a da*n. As always, the owners have to deal with complicated systems that by nature, have more parts to become out of order. The dealer guys aren't idiots - they're just part of the whole machine to take your money. Gonna watch the rest of the video. Thanks!

@myname6042 жыл бұрын
I noticed the joints are very under engineered for the draw. I would rate them at 10 amps at best and Mercedes somehow deems this acceptable for up to 60 amps.

I got a new fan for $380 CA so I got the old fan to play with. Found a toasted solder joint in that one corner you first pointed at did the rest in case of cold soldier joints. When I connect 12v to the signal, the fan revs up and then slows down as if it shuts off for a few seconds, and repeats continuously. revs, slows, revs, slows. Is that normal without PWM controller or is there is still something wrong here?

Thanks for this. I replaced my cooling fan with one from another make of vehicle and then sold my Mercedes Benz off. I want a car that doesn't screw up as I live in remote Australia where a breakdown could cost me my life. No one here wants a Mercedes Benz due to this overheating problem. Silly of Mercedes Benz as they then don't sell other consumables for their cars here as no one will trust their lives on them.

About to attempt this. Can you share the video that you used on removing the fan from the car? I found a couple different ones but none for the 2006 C230 Thanks!
@djordje180uk7 жыл бұрын
Krystal McKinley remove air intake (plastic) hose leading to air filter box, theres a black metal crossmember that splits into 3 sections, unscrew the 10mm screws that hold middle section, 4 screws total dont unscrew the ones for the bonnet locks, and also unscrew the 2 10mm screws that hold the horn bracket, these 2 are quite hidden behind facing the aircon radiator, there is also 2 black circle/square pull/push screws torx30/40 that hold the crossmember to the radiator, now you should be able to move crossmember forwards loosely only 5-10cm not much but enough. unscrew jubilee clip holding top coolant radiator hose and pull from thermostat housing, and bend it all the way right (maybe u dont need to do that, i did i have 646 220 cdi engine). now fun (and worst part), unclip the 2 upper corner plastic catches at both sides holding the fan slide and manoeuvre up and out. reversal of removal.
Hi!, i have the same problem, and already opened the fan, but i don't know which pin i must weld to, do you have a photo? i can't see it clearly

Mine works on AC and it does rev up at full speed, but it does not turn on (sometimes it does) at high engine temperatures. It often happens when I turn off the engine and turn it on again. Can it be the same problem, or should I search somewhere else? Also, I got a saved (not current) fault code: 0694: M4/7 (Engine and AC electric suction fan with integrated control) : Output stage
@TheSasato3 жыл бұрын
And in the moment it refuses to turn on, even AC will not cause it to spin.

Thanks for showing the wrong way to open the unit so I can go the right way without destroying the cap. If you are not good with soldering you can take the motor in your cooking oven at 200 C for 5-6 min just enough the resolder, worked with my logic bord on my Mac computer.
