2006 Ford Galaxy Electric Windows Fault. Part 2

Windows won't come back up using the driver's door switch panel and the driver's window won't operate at all. A simple fix, but one I made more complicated. Come along with me as I find out how to get the connector off and repair the wire.

I have the same problem on my alhambra, I had 3 broken wires, absolute nightmare to solder them by adding an extra bit of wire. I have it all back on but I couldn't get the connector back on with the plastic ring. I think ill try to get my hand in behind the fuse box and get it all back on properly. Great video btw!!

Off hand I cannot remember what I've shown about attaching the ring. There is a cover over the side/end of the dash which unclips quite easily. Removing this allows you to move things more easily, giving you more room. The fuse box cover is removed by only undoing it slightly and sliding it upwards. Good luck and thanks.

@@twotone3070 I just couldn't figure out does the part coming out of the door meant to turn, the round part that the plug plugs into, because the wires all twist when I tried to connect it up, I'll have another go soon!

Sorry for not replying, YT does not give notifications of comments that are left on previous comments, the channel owner has to look through every comment on every video to see whether there is anything that needs answering. The part of the connector that is in the car, not the door, has a small lug which locates in the door frame, this stops it from turning. The red ring should then screw on. Then you can plug the door connector on and tighten the ejector ring.

Have you done the second video to put together socket part of the loom on the door, I did the same mistake and the mating part moved inside of the hole. Can you please paste the link of the second video

I'm afraid I haven't. The GoPro footage I referred to was actually quite shaky. :( I can tell you that I had to put my hand through the fuse box. To do this I had to release the lid by sliding it upwards when it is mostly closed. Also remove the side trim to the right of the fuse box, the bit that almost touches the door when it is closed, doing this allows you to move it further so that you can get your hand in further. There is a very small lug on the body of the socket that locates in a keyway and ensures you have it in the correct orientation. I hope this helps. I was a little disheartened to see that the video was receiving very few views, no feedback and nearly as many dislikes as likes and I have to be honest and say if no one was interested why bother putting in the hours of work required to get another video out that would have even less appeal?

@twotone3070: While on vacation with my 2007 Alhambra I ran into exactly what you described. Driver window would not move at all (very handy with toll-booths, NOT) and all others would only go down. Luckily they could be moved up with their individual switches. So I ordered a new driver door switch which was waiting for me when we got home. However, you can guess, it behaved exactly the same. It took a lot of searching on the web before I found your excellent video. I would NEVER have been able to resolve the issue so quickly if I had not seen the video. What a design fault by VW/Ford that these wires could break so easily...... so in my car (which is left-hand drive by the way as I live in the Netherlands where we drive on the RIGHT side of the road, LOL) it was exactly the same wire. Same color coding. I fixed it also by extending the wire, like someone else mentioned in the comments. Somewhere in your replies I read you were disappointed by the number of views and likes. It is all about quality, not quantity and quality is what you provide here. I am utterly grateful that you took the time and effort to record this. It saved me a lot of time, troubleshooting, buying more parts that I do not need, frustrations etc. THANK YOU! Can I donate to the channel?

Mine has a few broken wires, and nothing works. Would cutting all the wires and fitting them with bullet connectors work?

I'm so sorry I didn't get back to you, I don't know what I was doing two months ago but I didn't see your comment. In reply, although probably way to late to be of any use, I would say probably not a good idea. The reason the wire broke is due to the repeated flexing in the same place, bullet connectors would be a large, by comparison, inflexible area. The points where it would be able to bend are now where the wires meet the bullets and in my view would break there quite quickly. I feel the objective is to increase the distance over which the wires can flex and keep the inflexible part as small as possible. You could replace the broken wires with a length of new wire, putting bullet connectors at either end, placing the two connections at points in the loom where no flexing is required. Off the top of my head I cannot remember what it looks like in there now. Although my offside rear window doesn't work at the moment so I will need to go back in.

I would use a shrink tube ,not tape

I would have used in preference to tape, but I didn't have any. The first tape I put on was a rubber tape and forms one piece.

My windows work ok, it’s my central locking that’s defective, I am going to look at this today but I think I will extend the wire slightly and then it will have room.

Good idea. Strain relief is key. Either side of the new joints you make are the new weak points. Good luck.
