A buddy of mine had this back in high school, we made it look like a young single mom car and we decked it out with a flower steering wheel cover and pink seat covers, eye lashes on the head lights, Victoria secrete "LOVE PINK" sticker on the back windshield, hello kitty stickers for the rear passenger door window, we had a "baby on board" caution sticker on the back windshield in the corner and we also put a baby seat in the back row seat and then we would take it out on a friday night and smoke all the honda riced out cars all the time lol.

Ever think of how to lower the seats or at least driver's seat. Would be nice. Just need a sunroof installed. Had one put in my new 2013 corolla.

YES! I guessed 2640lbs! My wife and I had the Matrix XRS and it was a great car. It ate clutches more than it should; we went through 2 in a 7 year period. For some reason, the shifter in our Matrix was a lot smoother and had a noticeable less throw. The Matrix has a more upright driving position with a shifter in the dash, so the wrist angle/action is way different. I would love to have a lower compression version of this with the 1ZZ crank. It makes it nearly 2l and adds a considerable amount of low end torque while keeping it rev-happy. Toyota DOES always leave something out. Conservative nature led them to make a 3rd gen MR2 that had marginally better power/weight than the Miata. But you can't out-Miata a Miata's aftermarket. I think I said something similar in your ZZW30 video... :)

Love that car and engine i have the S model with all intake and exhaust components upgraded and 93 tuned. I have a friend with a matrix xrs same engine and he bought the 3" intake, q45 throttle body with a spacer that fits and a ddpr intake manifold, ppe header and 2.5" exhaust, upgraded the cooling oiling and fuel systems and tuned it with greddy emanage ultimate and knocked out 211 crank hp 160 on tq. That was fun. I lnow he upgraded the clutch and flywheel and had the trans swapped with e153. It felt so good and then he got rear ended and to this day it sits in his garage being rebuilt slowly. That was 4 yrs. It was a mean 2zz. He def didnt cheap out on performance

I didn’t know the VVTL was similar to VTEC😮. Great 6 speed with pep in its step. My husband wants me to sell or trade it in for a Lexus GX 550😢. So conflicted to let go of my baby. The key plus is piggybacking off the afternarket coverage of the engine and transmission due to it's usage elsewhere. The factory stock setup leaves a few things to be desired. But for those with the cash and know how this is a platform that can dance.

Many old skool Toyota heads may be disappointed in the fact that they don't really try to compete directly with anything since the early 90's. It's clear that the aim of Toyota/Lexus is to simply give you an alternative that may not be as fast but more affordable and certainly more reliable than anything else. Sad to us car fanatics and fans of the brand but there is a reason they are number 1 and never really had any issues to really plague them like other brands. You know what you are getting when you buy a Toyota all the time. Slow and reliable! Lol

It's funny you guys didnt know about this car. In PR is the most expensive 2000s Corolla you can buy because of the fact that we tune them and turbo the living out of them. A good engine other than the 2zz is the younger 1zz even when people might say they are worst than the 2zz you can own one super reliable with around 250hp almost 300hp with just 12 psi of boost

Sucks that toyota took a wrong turn with their compact sports segments. They focused so much on customizing the looks of the cars with their scion brand that they forgot that one of the most important factor is the power of the car. And in 2009 they let that go by putting the same 160hp 2.4L in the XRS and called it a day. It was no longer top of the line, sporty, or different that the LX being offered. I hope toyota learns from their mistake in the compact segment and revive the goodness in Toyota Racing Development.

Cool video! The Celica GTS, Matrix XRS, Lotus Elise all share this engine. But, most forget there was also a fourth car using this engine. The 2003-06 Pontiac Vibe GT’s also shares the 2ZZ engine.

The Toyota Corolla XRS is faster than the newer Toyota Corolla S. It matched up well with the Honda Civic Si. The Scion tC and Toyota Celica GT were interesting like the Acura Integra, Honda Prelude, and Acura RSX Type S.

This is a good example that Toyota can make sporty cars if it wanted too. The Corolla is the best selling car in the world for over 50 years.

Scoobert Doobert VTEC is valve lift. VVTi is cam timing. VVTL-i is cam timing plus valve lift and predates iVTEC which is the same thing by 2 years. So Toyota did it first. VVTL-i in 1999 and iVTEC in 2001.

These are hard to find with under 80k miles now. Cool little reliable cars. These things put down good numbers too. I don't think they even de-tuned it vs the Lotus implanted motors.Several vids and forum reports of putting down 160 and up to the wheels stock. I miss the days cars had soul, style and a stick shift. May God help us.

Looks a lot like my 2006 Corolla S. I miss that car! These are still the best looking Corolla's. I didn't go for the XRS back then cause it offered no auto & also requires premium fuel.

What a shame you Americans got a de-tuned 2zz-ge, in Europe our Corolla's that had the 2zz-ge were marketed as the T-Sport and had 192bhp and the top of the range T-Sport Compressor came with 225bhp. I think in Australia it was called the Corolla Sportivo and in Japan it was a RunX or Allex
