@Scotty Kilmer I do bet this car will be more valuable than a civic🤔🤣. I think the reason Corollas didn't take off in racing world is there wasn't much after market support like turbos and superchargers. Probably very few companies made forged pistons and rods for that engine. I'd like to find one of these engines and transmission in junkyard and drop it in a 92 Corolla, it's much lighter weight car

I have an 05 Corolla XRS, I’ll tell you it was definitely my best purchase. It’s not fast, definitely quick. Faster then a genesis 2.0T, doesn’t matter the tune, I have yet to lose to one. 275,000km on mine now and the only issues I’ve had are leaks. Being it’s a 20 year old Toyota almost of course it’s gonna leak. It’s a great car and it pulls hard still at 275K. People always laugh when you pull up on them but it ALWAYS suprises people. Most people automatically ask if it’s got a turbo. Super fun car, would never trade it in. Perfect mix of economy and performance.

I own a 2005 Corolla XRS and still love driving it especially on the open road. Has 163,000 mi. on the odo, but still runs great and is still pretty much stock from the factory. The paint looks like hell with most of the clearcoat gone (FL sun is hell on paint) and it has the same factory paint defect on the front part of the hood that so many of the others have (especially the red ones) where it bubbles up and flakes off. It's been very reliable with the only work done on it other than regular maintenance is to replace the struts at around 130K and a starter motor at around 140K. I had a guy try to "steal" it off me for $1,200 and I just laughed. He upped his offer to $2,000 and I just kept laughing because i know how rare these are and what they're worth. Thanks for all your informative videos Scotty - keep 'em coming.

I also own a 2005 Corolla XRS it currently has 157k miles on it. I have been driving it for the past month because I had received my drivers license last year. And my parents had been using it and bought it for brand new. The paint on mine is also red with the clear coat flaking along the whole car and the hood having paint chipped off. Also the shiny metal on the gear shifter has flaked off the top and the small compartments on the center console keeps opening. Other than that and a very long cleaning session I’d say it looks good as new and everything still runs just fine.

Don't listen to these guys, the Corolla XRS is a great fun little car. I don't think Scotty mentioned that there's also chassis bracing and the brakes are a little bigger. Plus do you really wanna be that guy with a honda? Everyone's got little fixed up hondas. Imagine gapping some ricer in your corolla, that's where the fun is at. Bolt ons and tune will get you 200whp+ with the right tune, cars were underated from the factory. They dyno at 160-170whp stock. That and only weighing 2600lbs is a lot of fun.

I've seen one of these before. I just didn't know that so few of them were made. I imagine that Toyota didn't build this in big numbers because it would have cut into sales of the Celica.

Out here in South Africa, we have this in a Hatch version. It's called the RunX RSi (The UK calls it a T Sport). RSi is performance variant of Toyota only found in South Africa, that started all the way back with the 5th gen corolla, when Toyota SA slapped a 4A-GE into it. Then later in the 6th and 7th Gens Toyota SA threw the 4A-GE into them as well (This was in the early 2000s, long after the rest of the world no longer had black tops coming from factory). Later Toyota South Africa even dropped a Supercharger into the Toyota Auris Hatchback (The hatch version of the 10th Gen corolla). South Africa's car history is wild 😂

I have 2000 Echo Coupe for 4 years now, all original American spec. In Europe no one knows what it is and they are rare, I have seen 4 in the past 20 years haha, it's well kept and showing no sings of wear at 185k miles, so weird looking but beautiful nippy town car on smooth pavement, doing 70 mph cruise for 2 hours on weekly rides, yea its paper thin but what Japanese car from that era isn't? Some people have asked is it electric while I'm at the gas station filling up haha! In the winters you can slide that thing so easy and predictably with Blizzaks, its wheel base makes it perfect for sharp transitions, not saying its fast but too much fun that cars today lack, the way it grips and corners, New Corollas are too wide too detached even when all driver aids turned off. I also drift with 2002 BMW 330i in the winters also but I don't like that cars maintenance while my friend had a 1992 Sierra that thing is so much fun too. In the Echo tho nothing has gone wrong, new exhaust regular oil change, filters and keep adding a bit of oil in small amounts. In my ownership I have taken it to 100mph on those long drives then you run out of gear. When it snows on beautiful winter nights slide that go kart for the road. It was made in Japan and I love their vision!

Mine is about to turn 75k miles on the odometer and still looks new. These cars are reliable on the street, but not fit for the track. I chewed through 4 sets of intake cams in 8k miles, despite having upgrades for the oil pan, oil pump gear, internal oil temp and pressure gauges, and valve clearance adjustments. The body flexes under high G corners, which cause small dimple dents on the corners around the moon roof. Fun car, but I had to cut mine off from going to the track anymore!
@DimoS...5 ай бұрын
I know over 15 2zzge with over 250k miles without any wear on camshaft and another 2,3 with wear is very weird. The valve clearance is right? The exhaust lobes is ok? Also, what oil do you use, mate?
@BluestreakCorollaXRS5 ай бұрын
@@DimoS... The first two sets of cams were on the stock valve clearances, and they were increased to 16 thousandths after that. I run 5W30 full synthetic and my oil capacity is at 7.5 q with the baffled Moroso oil pan. The car is fine unless I drive it hard at the track, which is the only way I know how to drive at the track 😂
@DimoS...5 ай бұрын
@@BluestreakCorollaXRS I understand, mate, for my all search about this thing is maybe the engine loose oil pressure at high lateral pressure (G), but you have a baffled oil pan! That's crazy! I know my best friends mr2 2zzge, with 20k miles in hard track days and no wear on camshafts. He uses 0w40 mobil1 fs like me if the cause is the oil in the end. Also I know 2zzge from new with 400k miles now without any wear on cams. Something important! You change all rocker arms with new when put the new cam?
@BluestreakCorollaXRS4 ай бұрын
@@DimoS... Yeah, the first replacement set was a Monkeywrench Built Cylinder Head that comes with new rockers, MWR Valve Springs and TI Retainers, plus MWR Stainless Valves. Subsequent sets were OEM intake cams and rockers.

Adding a CAI on that engine really makes the lift part of the revs more noticeable. Was the 2ZZ-GE different in the corolla/matrix xrs than in the celica? Didn't Scotty day that was a bad engine in the past? 🤔

i like scotty's videos and im a yota fanboy too, but i do have to point out that the 2zz he is bragging on is the same engine he listed in his top 5 toyota engines to stay away from. personally i have a xrs matrix with the 2zz and its still running strong at 183,000, but in scottys defense the first couple years those engines did have trouble in the celicas, but by the time they were going into the corollas the problem was fixed
