My pivot points on the backing plate were frozen and rusted. I sprayed under the boot with pb blaster to free it up. Then adjusted the brakes and my brake pedal was much better. Thank for the video

Thanks for the video. I’ve adjusted my rear shoes to the point I can barely fit the drum back on without a good amount of force and my ebrake still doesn’t work well. Didn’t think of checking the slack on the cable but will after watching this.

I have the exact same issue. New drums, wheel cylinders, new shoes. Barely get the drum on. Any luck in solving your issue? I know this is an older post
@deegaw1110 ай бұрын
@@Ocean_breezes if you have a hard time fitting the drum on then your shoes are probably adjusted to much. Just back off the adjuster slightly till the drum can fit on and adjust it back to spec.

I'm not sure about backing off the brake shoes, I was told they are supposed to touch slightly and that the rear wheels shouldn't spin freely when lifted off the ground. Great explanation for the parking brake adjustment though

Lol, glad I found this I'm doing mine right now. Damn, pads were ugly and now I've got no tension in P.B. time to adjust.... 🤞 lol
@robsnizzle794 жыл бұрын
Adjusted interior cab pedal and adjustment under drivers seat, still no tension in pedal. (Goes to floor). Plus, anyone get a spongy brake pedal like an old 50'S Chevy (double pump to get good bite outta brakes). Any ideas guys? No leaks, fresh turned drum and brake shoes too.

Awesome, just have to add that the cable across the rear goes thru a pivot, this needs to rotate freely OR only one side will work. Hmmmm

How do I adjust old brake shoes to new rotors in a 2004 toyota sequoia?
@podnolej77844 жыл бұрын
manual states take cable off of Clevis then make adjustments each side.

Thanks for the information. Just to make sure, you loosen the emergency brake cable to give it some more slack then you retighten to pull the slack at the pedal?
@victorturner782 жыл бұрын
No only adjust st the pedal if you need to, if cable is stretched or damaged it could need replacement!

I just do like Toyota says in the manual. If you pump the parking brake pedal you adjust the parking brake. If you just did a brake job it may take a bit but it works every time. Of course I have only had my 2000 since it was new and it only has 285,000 on it so maybe when it really gets some miles on it I will have to adjust the cables.

My dumbass accidentally drove a few miles with the parking brake on and now it's loose probably from burning out the drums. But does pumping the parking brake several times really tighten up the parking brake?
@gsxrsquid2 жыл бұрын
@@HaQDang Yep. Ideally you should do the rough adjustment at the drums. Then you pump the parking brake pedal. As it tightens up keep track of the clicks on the ratchet. When you get to 6 or 7 clicks you are there. Also you will feel the the parking brake pedal tighten up. You should feel the difference on the regular brake pedal too. A lot of older vehicles would make an adjustment every time you put the car in reverse.
