Cannot believe that's nearly a year of ownership of the S40. Glad to hear you are enjoying Volvo Ownership Sir, here's to the next 10000 miles.

Just had to replace an indicator bulb in it, but apart from that, we are still going strong, sir.

Absolutely right about the rust, my 20 yr old V50 is in good shape, the only rust it had was where some previous owner had cut out the windscreen! I had to get that fixed to put a new windscreen in but otherwise all good! Mine also has that dark fake wood and the cup holders in the front.

It's amazing how the V50s, S40 Mark IIs and C70s Mark IIs don't rust at all. Most other cars of their era are at least showing signs of rust now. Of course, if you have an impact, or remove the windscreen, that's a different matter.

Definitely worthwhile seeking out the upgraded High Performance speakers from a C30/S40/V40 from a breaker's yard sir. Much better sound quality. Just riveted in.

The best s40 second gen was the diesel 2.0,liter coupled to the dual clutch from getrag. That engine and gearbox combo was supreme. But that version was only available from 2008 till 2012.

Back in the day I would have struggled to afford one….with a smaller engine. Many in uk also (because of fuel costs) had the “wrong type of engine”. I remember that similar generation Honda accord video…..or any number BMW 3 series…..there’s the problems. I think I would have picked those. Even today, even with the new Volvos closest to this one….they are very expensive…and I’m not convinced I would spend that money on a Volvo….very competitive space, all those German cars and Japanese cars to choose from. You got the Germans driving like a bat out of hell (indicators optional), or the slightly less dynamic Japanese offerings that can do about a million miles. Volvo is neither.
@lloydvehicleconsulting19 күн бұрын
Well, these are very cheap cars now, so it's not really much of a factor any more. I drive hundreds and hundreds of cars a year, and so I am quite fussy about what I own, and although the CL9 Accord I drove recently is very good, I sort of prefer this, principally due to the engine.

£415 road tax is painful. Are you exempt from paying road tax as a dealer? I like the car but wouldn't consider it because of that.
@lloydvehicleconsulting20 күн бұрын
I am not a motor trader, I only find cars for private clients, so I pay the tax like everyone else. The tax is a bit expensive, but it's actually not too bad to run apart from that. They did make three less powerful petrol engines for the S40 as well, of course, but I prefer this one.
@GeordiLaForgery20 күн бұрын
@@lloydvehicleconsulting It's a great car, perhaps I'm too thrifty. Wish the gov would stop taxing old reliable cars off the road in favour of dodgy ecoboosts.
@lloydvehicleconsulting19 күн бұрын
You could always get the 1.6, 1.8 or 2.0 instead. They don't drive or sound like one of these, though.
