As some have asked about; was the approval of the Rotella T6 in the BRM TDi engine; I went to my local VW dealership to have a "unofficial" discussion. The VW techs / counter "unofficially" said the T6 is perfectly okay to use in these motors; and they haven't heard of anyone having problems with it. The key was to have a 5W40 weight oil (not 5W30)...also doing a 5,000 mile interval on oil changes (not 10,000 as recommended by VW). Again, it's what I use on my vehicle; to each their own. Hope this helps.

Thanks man. Just picked up this exact car and was just looking over throughout stuff and the service manual to get more familiar with the car. I appreciate the video

The 1.9L diesel found in the 2006 Jetta calls for the Liqui Molly 5-40 synthetic oil. Anything else, you run the risk of taking your cam shaft out. It’s made in Germany, just like the car!

Another trick, if you drain another .25 quarts out of the oil adapter bolted to the block near the radiator you have much cleaner oil in the end.

Very good video Is diesel car easier maintenance then regular car? I am thinking, buying used TDI VW, or old Mercedes diesel 1990-1997, which one is better what is your suggestion? How long have you had TDI jetta? Thank you very much

Pure H2O - not sure about easier maintenance as that really depends on your skill set and what level of tools you have available to you. Doing an oil change is similar in both. I got a diesel primarily because it gives me 50 MPG and I drive 120 miles per day. As far as VW or Mercedes, the VW parts or even common maintenance items are much cheaper. P.S - I own 2 Mercedes SUV’s (gasoline powered) as well.

I guess you did not show the cover removal under the engine. Do you have one?
@sat_sonic

I do - today, but did not back when I made the video. However, I cut out an area in my cover to drain without having to remove cover. I also attached a quick drain valve in place of my drain plug. Thanks for watching!

What has been your experience with the TDI? Has it proven to be reliable? What have been the main problems that you have come across? Any transmission isdyes? Would you recommend this particular model?

Chewbaca Guil The 2 big possible problems are the rounded off cam or the dmf could fail.

60k into ownership and have to replace the driver door wire harness, Passenger CV axel and fuel temp sensor as repairs. I do spend some on preventative maintenance like: oil/filter every 5k, fuel/air every 20k, trans oil every 40k, coolant every 100k with timing belt and brake fluid every 2 years. Brakes & Tires as needed. 185k on the clock.

I have found TDIs to be be extraordinarily reliable, you can easily put on 300k mi on them with routine servicing. I’ll add that it’s best to add diesel lube to to every tank of fuel.. I think Opti lube XPD is the best stuff I add 100mls to a tank in my TDI sportwagen.. just the biggest thing to do in replace the fuel filter every 40k and alway check for metal flakes that could be from the high pressure fuel pump.. if that pump goes out it is a very expensive job but the diesel lube takes cate of this

For my vw 2006 jetta TDI 2.0 i use Castrol 15w40 for my engine cz i crossed more than 500000 km is it the right oil for it !!?
@sat_sonic
@sat_sonic 4 жыл бұрын
Mine is a 1.9 TDi. Are you sure that yours is a 2.0? I don’t use “official” oil. I use Rotella T6 5w40 diesel oil. It’s available at the local Walmart and I change it every 5k miles with a Mann Oil Filter.

how are those car ramps i was looking at them and wasnt sure if it was elevated enough and is it sturdy and secure?
@zDesireable
@zDesireable 7 жыл бұрын
also the oil that you put in is it VW approved and good for the winter
@sat_sonic
@sat_sonic 7 жыл бұрын
The ramps are pretty good. I’ve changed oil in this car and a Mercedes ML430 SUV. In both cases, easy up and the car is plenty high to do the oil change.

King Dre as far as approved oil - I actually think the one I used is not on the list, but people have ran this oil in these engines (BRM - TDi) for hundreds of thousands of miles. Also, yes it’s great for winter, as it starts as a 5 winter then goes to a 40. I’m in Chicago area and we get cold as ever here.

Only thing, you didn't fil up the oil filter and housing. very VERy hard on your turbo. good job though..
@sat_sonic
@sat_sonic 4 жыл бұрын
I’ve heard of filling up twist on filters, not really heard of filling up housings as the housing is connected to the oil pan. Not sure it would work. But that’s for the comment either way. Thanks!

not required as it primes up almost instantly and the turbo does not run on idle when you start it .

I tried. It drains automatically and immediately-so system must be designed for it.
