Thankful I live down here in the West Texas plains area. I recently did timing chains on an 04 Explorer Sport Trac 4.0 that came from upstate New York. Lots of rust, made me appreciate working on vehicles down here.

I just had my 2008 Patriot North, 4x2, five spd manual clutch replaced. It has 140,000mi on it. Mechanic told me the bottom of the old clutch was full of oil. (There was no fluid in either of the Master cylinder reservoir or slave. The shifter just wouldn't go into gear.) It seems pretty good except that it doesn't like to down shift from fourth to third sometimes. Have to wait a moment slow down more then the shift engages. Sometimes the transmission kicks the shifter back into neutral.. Maybe I'm not shifting properly. Thanks this work through video is amazing.

Well your buddy got a new vehicle cause this compass has issues. Got it my shop now lol. Took side cover off tranny and metal for days. So I'm removing transmission. 🙂

On the long PTU (Power transfer unit) bolt, I have a similar problem. The bolt is partially frozen in place. Strangely, I can turn it out about 1/4" and back in but any further, I risk stripping the bolt head. It's one in the morning here and I just ran out to the garage to clean the rear bolt hole and douse it in penetrating oil. Hopefully by the time I get to work on it in the morning, it'll work its magic. Otherwise, I'll have to remove the transmission with the transfer case attached then cut the bolt head off to take it apart. Sigh.

Galled thread. Sometimes you can loosen, and tighten it a million times, and every time you loosen it, it turns out a little more. If you get it out, there will be a chunk of metal stuck to the thread.

Great video! 1 quick question does the r/s shaft have to come out it looks like the tranny would pull away from the transfer with no need to remove the r/s Shaft?
@RustBeltAuto Жыл бұрын
I don't have an answer for that

The other problem I had was with the half shaft threaded end. One thread was so rusty, 1/2 the thread was gone. Otherwise there was nothing wrong with it. Why didn't they put covers on the axle ends?
