One of the most entertaining and hilarious SMA videos ever. Of course it was presented with utmost respect to Mrs O. And damn well should have been! Child birth experience reminds me of a place and time long ago when a young Vietnamese woman was giving birth in a muddy ditch. 5 very young combat G.I.’s learned very quickly the value of innocent life and the happiness we gave to that lovely young little mom. We were kids just like her. I’m 74 now, I pray that little girl and her mom are happy and healthy,

3yrs ago and just as valid. After removing the throttle body I found that grabbing wires to the starter, pushing it backwards away from the flywheel and then tilting it up and out, worked easily. The old starter looked so rough it was ready to retire. The parts desk took the old one. The new starter was just under $100. Thanks again. I'm getting ready to change the rear drum brakes on this 2008 Heap Compass. And underneath the engine there is a bar where the engine mount sits. I have this new part. Watching your videos 10X or more and I feel like I'm ready to crawl under this thing, but I'm getting too fat. It's like a walrus moving up and down a beach. Happy birthday to your 3yo. Can you grab me a part the next time you're at the yard?

Worked on an old large ford sedan several years ago that overheated, had eleven out of a possible eleven coolant leaks and leaky valve covers. Got it all fixed, ran the engine to test for leaks and overheating in their driveway. They heard it running, came out all happy. Went to road test and........the battery quit. They weren't happy at that, but it was obvious the battery was old. One new battery and they were happy again. Mr. O. you did a great job, even cleaned the Neg cable end and post.

I found a snap on ratchet stuck in a fender once. I’ve also found a few screwdrivers and small tools. Usually I try to return them if it’s a truck from a place that does most of their own work. I figure it’s good in the hopes the stuff I loose returns. The best is a light I lost for over a month. It was found when the truck came back for a service. Was still stuck to the bottom. Charged it up and works fine.

I pulled you up for the first time, as a woman that doesn't work on cars I am curious to see what it takes to replace a starter. I do own a Jeep Compass, and believe that I need to replace my starter. Doing my research now, on cost of part, and labor. Another "educational" video. Loved to hear about your wilder youth. 😂 When I was 18, I had a Ford Cortina MkV, with a 2.0 engine with a 5 speed manual transmission and rear wheel drive. I was with my friends one Saturday night and we were doing burnouts on the promenade in Kirkcaldy, a major town near to where I live. I had my then girlfriend, Claire, in the car and I did this super long, crazy burnout. When the smoke cleared, a Fife Police BMW 5 series was right behind me with his blue strobes flashing. My pals had seen it but I roared off before they had a chance to tell me. The passenger got out of the police car and approached my window. He looked in the car and saw his daughter, my girlfriend, in the passenger seat. He motioned for her to get out and go to their car. I got a very stern talking to about road safety and basically got off with a warning but a condition of it was that I broke up with Claire. The end of a beautiful relationship. 😂

Other than the wild discussions, it showed me exactly what I was looking for in getting that starter out/in, all the other videos said to remove the wires for the starter before removing the starter and I couldn't get my tools back there.

Informative video. Like the way you managed to work your way through the mare’s nest of devices and connectors, extract the guilty party and move on with the repair. I have had one or another mechanic or two call me up with “By the way, this is broken and it was not on the list of what you wanted fixed. So do I fix it or what?” And if I had the dough, “Just fix it and spare me the shock by telling me the estimate now.” It has always worked out for the best. That’s with independents. Dealers are another story for another time. Thanks for and educative video. Best wishes for your grandchildren, too.

I remember when I was a young mechanic, customer called to tell me the battery in her 2000 Buick LeSabre was dead. She wanted me to come get it and replace the battery. No problem I'll have it done by lunch time. I hopped on my golf cart with the jump pack and down the road I went. Popped the hood plugged my jumper pack on the battery. Climbed in the car hit the key. One maybe 2 revolutions and KABOOOOOOMMMM. I could see smoke and plastic falling down. I thought holy crap I blew up the battery. I climbed out and I found the top of the motor blew off. Talk about tough to go back to tell your pops that we now have to call the customer and tell her she'll no longer need that batter because her motor exploded.

A few years ago I had to change the starter on my wife's 2010 Journey with the same engine. My friend (also a seasoned mechanic like yourself) told me I had to remove the intake manifold to get to it. Did it just the way you did, and had no issue removing the old and installing the new one. Great video!

You made my day with this one. Starters are NEVER in a good place, but do they have to re-invent bad places to put them. My son has a BMW..... yes I know you are not a fan..... and I told him, BUT he bought it anyway. The starter went bad, and I confirmed it with proper testing as detailed by South main Auto, BUT it lives under the Intake Manifold on a 6 Cylinder in-line engine. A whole lot of stuff to remove to even see it, and then it is held in with 2, Special, Aluminum, One-Time Use, Torque to Yield Bolts. WHY.... I mean really..... WHY! Anyway..... your dialogue while changing this starter was priceless. I figured that you must be in the shop after hours, no phone, no visitors, just get her done. I spent many hours in my engine shop after dinner, by myself, Overhauling Piston & Turboprop Aircraft Engines. The peace and quiet, with a lack of visitors with the distraction that they ultimately cause..... Priceless! I could get more done in 3-4 Hours than in 8-10 hours during the day. A warm summer night, with the shop door open on the airport, with the sun setting and taxi lights on, and the occasional Sea Lion barking in the Float Plane base 2 miles away..... WOW, the best working conditions ever. Next best place.... South Main Auto, .... but I don't have that shop anymore..... so.... You are #1!
