Never, ever bang on threaded studs with a hard mallet or hammer. That's how you ruin threads. Also, do not pry the ABS sensor out by the tip of the actual sensor. Hopefully you were lucky enough to not need new studs and sensors.

How many miles were on the rug when the bearings went bad? Was it the seal failure that caused the issue on both sides?

can the brake cable be removed without removing the shoes? I have an 07 tundra and am about to remove the whole axle shaft assembly and put a new one in and am wondering about that cable.

Truck had around 90,000 on it, but they had started to go bad well before that. Rotors rubbing the brake backing plate gave indication of the issue (noise especially when turning). Disappointing as i expected better/longer life from toyota honestly. Seals looked good actually once i removed axles, and nothing really visually wrong other than wear through on backing plates as shown in the video. Pretty expensive repair from dealership, am glad i tackled the repair myself with an assist from machine shop to press new bearings on. Saved in excess of $1000 over what shop quoted.

Would the axle need to be taken out if you buy the whole bearing/ hub assembly?
@scottmadison71994 жыл бұрын
I believe it would as the hub assembly is attached (pressed on to the axel)..... if I understand your question correctly.

@Will Song.... You're 100% correct my friend. I should have used a dead blow hammer or left the nut on the end of the threads so as not to risk damaging them. Thank you for bringing that up for others. Understand what you're saying about sensor removal, and I did in fact break one as stated in the video. If you have some tips/instructions for myself and others about sensor removal, we'd love to hear about it. Thanks again for your feedback!
