2007 Avalon loud rattle with AC on

I turned on the AC earlier this week for the first time in s long time.
I was parked and started to turn the wheel and a loud gggrrrrrrrrrrrr noise started happening. I let go of the wheel and it shortly went away, and when I turned the wheel it came back. while the nose was happening I turned off the AC and the noise immediately stopped.
AC blows fine, it's plenty cold.
