@@jlo7770 I just have a question for you... Do you have a hatred for cats? Did you know Cats and humans evolutionarily diverged from a common ancestor (boreoeutherian ancestor) approximately 80 million years ago, accumulating only 10-12 chromosomal translocations.[68] The order of eight genes on the cats' Y chromosome closely resembles that in humans.[69] Genes on X chromosomes of cats and humans are arranged in a similar way. A 2007 study revealed that 90% of human and cat genes are homologous, meaning that they were inherited from a common ancestor. Do you know how genetically close your feline is it to you? You may have thought that dogs would be a little closer to humans on the evolutionary scale, but it turns out that cats actually have 90.2% of the DNA in common with us! You read that right! A 2007 study found that about 90% of the genes in the Abyssinian domestic cat are similar to humans. The cat and human genomes each contain approximately 2.5-3 billion base pairs. Yes! According to Teresa Manucy, DVM, a veterinarian at VCA Fleming Island Animal Hospital, cats can recognize and differentiate their name from other household pets' names. She says this recognition is likely due to positive reinforcement or a cat's association of their name with attention, food, or play. Plus Cat domestication took place in two strains, but all domestic cats have a common ancestor: the North African / Southwest Asian wildcat, Felis silvestris lybica. Other scientists have also discovered another potential instance of cat domestication. Jean-Denis Vigne studied skeletal remains of cats in China and found that there may have been a short-lived domestication of leopard cats in China, independent of domestication elsewhere (Vigne et al., 2016). However, they did not find evidence that any present day domesticated cats are related to leopard cats, so if there was a time that they were domesticated, it did not last ( Another interesting element of the history of cat domestication has to do with cat coat patterns. Analyzing the pattern of cat coats is one of the best way

He does do a last minute zoomy before sleep though - when I lay down, he snuggles with me for a bit to get me settled into bed, then goes on a rampage for five minutes before re-joining me. After that, he's there with me through the entire sleep cycle, occasionally stirring me a bit when he gets up and swaps where he's sleeping next to me.

He's a sweetheart! ❤️ Few people in my life would believe this since my boy is seen as mean, antisocial, and very intimidating. I think he's rude most of the time because he is sensitive and only has the energy to be kind if someone really needs it ❤️ That makes his kindness even more special to experience because you know he's deliberately making the choice to do it when he does! And, yes, it's usually when people seriously need emotional support. I've seen people absolutely melt and bawl their eyes out when he suddenly gets loving with them in their moments of need!

Pets are members of our communities/families, and i believe they pick jobs in their families. My grandma had a black cat named Pilgrim, and he decided i was his job. He was the shadow of my every step whenever i went up there to visit from the time i was about 2 years old. My dad even says he could tell the difference between when his car contained me and when it did not, as Pilgrim would come running up to the driveway only when I was in the car with him. Pilgrim kept little toddler me safe and kept me from getting lost on those 36 acres of wild woods, he would bat at me or taunt me until i wanted to play with him so i would stay away from the cliffs. I didn't even know there were cliffs until i was closer to 10, basically when i no longer had him to stop me. I like to think his ghost still checks in, and that's part of why my current cats get the random zoomies sometimes. They're just playing with Pilgrim.❤

A few times, when my sister got sick in the middle of the night, I'd sleep out in the living room (we shared a divided bedroom) in my sleeping bag while Mom helped her multiple times in the night when I couldn't stay awake to help. Both times, I woke up in the morning and found our cats sleeping with me on the floor. I guess they were equally worried about her and understood why I was there (exhausted, didn't want to get sick, needed a quieter place to sleep) and slept with me to comfort me as well as comfort themselves, and to keep my temperature up so I could stay well. One of the cats never slept with me otherwise (though he did prefer a bigger bed and saw Mom as his mom since she found him as a stray kitten when he didn't even have his eyes open yet).

When my cats are outside and I'm in the living room watching TV or playing a game, the cats will every five minutes or so jump on the window to look at me, then they want me to open the window to let them in. Then they come in, look at me, then walk right back to the door and meow to be let out, and this will go on all day until nightfall when it's time for bed. Then they don't meow at the door usually. Idk why they do that, it's very annoying having to constantly open the window, but at the end of the day I love them with all my heart, and enjoy all the time I get to spend with them. Their lives are too short, and 12 or so years aren't enough. But I will be reunited with all my loved ones in heaven, and that is the only consolation I have. Both human and animal families. Together forever, with no tears, fear, or pain. Only joy forever with the Father.

Cats feel like they should be able to get to and from wherever they want to. My cats dont go outdoors because my house is just 15 feet from a very fast road and also ATV trail, the sounds outside terrify them. But in the house if a door is closed that they think should be open they are unhappy. I don't always want my basement door open so its closed all the time. Sometimes they want thru the door but theyve learned it only opens very rarely and i guard it sometimes because i dont want them down there all the time. So they give up easily when they do want thru. Because your cats want to come in and out whenever they feel like it, if you comply with them everytime they will become even more frustrated if you don't let them in. I think its good to just accept it and love their little annoyances, but the truth is that if you don't want them to do that, it just means ignoring them sometimes so they will learn that the window isn't always going to open on their command every 5 minutes.
@tylerthegrimm5 ай бұрын
@makeshift_battlefield_music Yeah, I know, and I guess I should be firmer with them, but I can't help it. They have fun going outside, and we live in the country, so I just deal with it. When the mosquitoes aren't bad, I leave the windows open for them so they can mosey about at their own leisure. I used to never think I'd like cats until they all just wandered onto my property and never left, so I adopted the four of them, I felt so bad for them not having a home, that I just kept them. It's been like that my whole life, I've never had to go to a pound or shelter. Animals have always just wandered in and stayed. Before, it was dogs, and now cats. Idk what brings them here. God, I reckon, but im always happy to see them come and decide to live here. My wife is a soft ass like I am, too, and she can't turn them away either, so it works out. I'm fine with the little annoyances cause I know one day I'll miss them more than anything else.

Cats are so smart. When I visit my parents, I give one of the neighbours' cats some dry cat food. He spends a lot of time in our garden, and we have the impression that he is not getting all the food he'd like at home. ... Anyway, freeloading cat 1 usually makes an appearance each day. A couple of days ago, freeloading cat 2 appeared, apparently hungry. She got some dry cat food, too. We assume these cats must have been talking to each other.

It's gonna sound like I'm making this up but I swear I'm not. One time I was sitting at my desk playing a game on my PC with a controller and I decided to take a break to grab some water, so I placed the controller on the desk and left the room. When I returned, my cat was sitting on his hind legs in my chair with his body extended upward and he was trying to put his two front paws on the face of the controller. It may have been coincidence but he's been known to imitate things he sees me do before, actually it's pretty common, he knows how to use door knobs and handles (though sometimes they're too slick or stiff for him to use he still tries) , he'll open drawers and cabinets right after I've just closed them to try and figure out what I was doing on them, and if I leave my phone unattended he paws at the screen until he gets it to light up. Like I said, it could be coincidence, but knowing him and having seen that he's particularly intelligent and curious when it comes to human activities I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he was trying to imitate what he saw me doing with the controller that day.

"If you keep giving them treats and affection when they pop in, they'll keep doing it. You're essentially rewarding the behaviour". You're talking like that's a bad thing, I love attention from cats! When my family used to cat-sit a lovely cat (I may have been a tad obsessed with her), she used to pop in when we were eating dinner in the dining room. She'd come in, do a set circuit around me and under the table, and return to her living room zone. I'd also pop by to check on her when I went to get more rice from the rice cooker appliance.

I had a pair of cats who tried to be my protector. One day I was leaving for class, but my pair of cats (littermates) lined up on adjacent stairs each filling the entire horizontal space. After I squeezed past them, they managed to pull the same trick 4 steps further down. After I found that my car wouldn't start, I returned only to remember that Hurricane Gloria was arriving that day. [A phone call confirmed classes were cancelled.] The kitties seemed relieved! They never repeated that behavior ever again.
