Welcome back to Mehl's Mountain Garage!
Today, follow along as I replace the rear coil spring isolators/snubbers on my 2007 Chevy HHR LT. This should be the same for 2006 to 2011 HHR's and is a common issue. The issue is the rubber snubbers are gone, and when I am towing a trailer or have alot of weight in the back, the tires hit the wheel wells. Shoot, even without a trailer and a big enough bump in the city the 245's hit the rear wheelwell. I am running the FE5 (SS) suspension on this car, so it is lower than most LS and LT's.
This video is kind of instructional, so I'll talk as I take it apart and you'll see it really doesn't take but a whole 20 minutes to remove and replace the parts. I did mine on the lift in work because I don't like laying on the ground, haha I am filming alone so I've done my best to keep the camera shake down.
www.hhr.net is a wonderful source for HHR owners to get a whole plethora of information. Anywhere from tire sizes and part numbers, to instructionals on how to replace things.
Please, if you like the video hit the like, and subscribe for more content! Leave me some comments so I can make the videos better. Do you want follow along, instructional, more talking, less? I'm trying to reach 1000 subscribers!

Good video. Doing the same job right now, along with shocks (Kyb) and coils (Moog). The bottom bolt on one of the shocks is giving me trouble but I'll muscle it out eventually. It's always the last bolt you get to that gives you the most trouble, lol. The rear area of the HHR is surprisingly easy to work on. The hardest part on the ebrake cable replacement was removing the center console to get to the cable seating mechanism. After that it was maybe 10 minutes tops to install the cable and hook it up to my rear drum brakes

MY 2007 is at 160k on the clock. I need new shocks on the back. Would you recommend since I already have the shocks off just going ahead and swapping it out?? Maybe even throw some new springs in?

The springs are probably fine, but I bet the snubbers are probably dried out or broke. It's more of an age thing than mileage I think. The materiel gets old and deteriorates.

I did hear you say you have a lot of SS parts on it. But by putting all HHR SS Springs and shocks you were able to drop it? I kind of want to drop mine and like how yours look.

Yes I did. I used SS springs front and rear. They are called FE5. The rear shocks are GM FE5, and the struts are KYB, since I couldn't locate new FE5 struts. I love how it handles, and the drop isn't too low.

Are the part numbers 19352221 and 25993737 the same part? When you look at the pictures of the 19352221, they all show the number 25993737 on the back. Can someone help with this? They look identical.

When I ordered them from RockAuto, I believe one number superseded the other. I believe I placed the number in description.

The are technically called bump stops on the website. Hope this helps.

I have a 06 hhr, I was going down the highway an it sounded like something broke on the rear wheel well what could it be, anyone have any ideas? I would greatly appreciate it!!!!

Unfortunately, no, it could literally be any number of things. Shock, spring, axle beam. You really need to get under there and look around to see if anything is broken.

Cannot figured out if I need the GM 19352221 or GM 25993737. Anyone prefer one over the other?

The GM 25993737 is the correct upper bump stop for the rear. The same I used in the video. Just double le checked my rockauto history.

They are not the same part with different numbers? When you look at the pictures of the 19352221, they all show the number 25993737 on the back. Can someone help with this?

I checked my rockauto account for the last comment, that's what I ordered. I'll check again though. Sometimes a new part number supercedes and older one.
