Chevy Silverado Will Not Start? I am not a professional I am showing what happened to me and what I did. Thought It Was A Battery Problem? No it was a GM passkey III system malfunction? Did not know the truck had this system. Passkey system is an anti-theft computer that reads the chip in the key. If it can't read it the system disables the engine. I was lucky this happened at home. If I was on the road it would have cost me big bucks. I was told in my owners manual to call a dealership for this problem. People told me a dealership would charge $600-$800 dollars to fix. I found a way to get the computer to relearn the keys micro chip. I had to do it several times before it worked. It has been 3 days and 12-15 engine starts and it is still working. In this video I show you what I had and what I did. Recommend hooking up a battery charger when trying to reprogram. I have been told low battery power could cause this problem.

I know this is an old video but I just went thru this and while you're close, there's a couple of small details that if you follow will make this work the first time everytime. Someone may have already shared this but I don't see it posted anywhere in the comments so I'll share what I learned just in case someone needs it. Per the GM service manual, first off make sure your battery is fully charged. You're gonna have to leave your key in the ignition with it in run but not running for a total of 30 minutes by the time you're done and if your lights come on like most do that'll be a strain on any battery but anyways, put your key in the ignition and turn it to the on position but don't start the car. Now turn the key to the start position, like you're trying to start it then release the key so it goes back to the on position. Then set an alarm for 10 minutes and leave it alone. After 10 minutes turn the key to the off position , wait 5 seconds, then do the same thing again, turn to start, release back to "on" and leave it alone for 10 minutes Do not remove the key from the ignition during the entire process or you have to start over. You have to do this three times in a row for a total of 30 minutes, then on the fourth time when you turn the key to start, it will start and your key is programmed to your pcm. @@peterrivera4710 it did not solve my problem, my 2011 gmc was saying it was this problem even though it was actually a burned wire coming from my starter so it put the truck in anti theft, but if you are actually having a problem with a key unprogramming then yes this will work since my truck did re-learn the key👍 hope it helps.

I was thinking I needed a new starter we just replaced the ignition switch and it started and ran we shut it back off and the next day it wouldn't start i watched this and i had to do it 3 times but it worked and truck runs great. Thank you, you saved me a bunch of money for nothing as it turned it wasn't the starter but the key having to reprogram itself to the computer thanks again

My vehicle wouldn't turn over or start and had the same security lockout light staying on. Check the DLIS 2AMP fuse. I have a 07 Silverado, it was fuse #36 2amp fuse in the fuse box under the hood. Mine was blown, replaced, and now starts.

Matthew McDaniel now you have to find a wiring diagram and see what is tied to that circuit because it will blow out again..fuses don’t just pop for nothing

Mine did this today on my 2007 pretty sad about it but I think it’s fixable although it did take me about 35 min for it to start again I basically went all out but I did follow instructions I hope mine doesn’t stall good luck guys

always have an unused/new key that was cut to the vin from dealer. theses keys wear out and trip security system. I have one labeled master at home in case this happens and have new keys cut to it. 3years and still no security problems.

I think I am having the same issue, however you didn’t mention your key fob. I can lock my 07 Tahoe LTZ with the fob and come back hours later yo the fob not working. I manually open the door get in and the car won’t start, just the lights. I put the key in and turn it about 4-5 times then finally I take it out and my doors all unlock and the interior lights come on... my service air bag has been on for a few months didn’t think much of it because I was t boned shortly before, but now my stabilitrak is coming on. Any thoughts.

@@nickguzman787 yeah bro, actually ended up being my BCM. I suspected that for a while but couldn’t ever get a code to pop up. Finally all my modules let me know they lost contact with the BCM. There is a website that will sell and program one for yours using your vin. I think I paid $200 and it was literally plug and play from the mail

I went to remote start my 08 gmc sierra sle 5.3 v8 and it won't start so I went out put in the key and everything lights up, gas gauge works too but when i turn over the key it does nothing no click, no start my battery is good. I have a SURE FIRE way to get GM to fix this and it just might trigger an industry reaction to clean a few things up! If at least half the people that have problems with their vehicles drive them through the showroom doors at about 60 MPH and take out their showroom Vettes and anything else you can donut into, maybe they'll start to realize the importance of happy customers! 🤪😇🤬

I wish I would of seen this before getting a tow truck for over $600.00 because my daughter was stranded in the middle of the desert, she had left the key in the ignition overnight, which I also read can make this happen. We've already made two trips testing fuses, getting a new battery, but I'll bet anything this is what needs to be done.

Was running really late to work. Tapped on the starter thinking it was in a bind didn't work then I looked it up. This worked on my 2010 gmc z71 only problem I have now is all my gages stopped working. It might be a diffrent issue but needless to say this got me to work

Matter of fact my daughter kinda has the same problem with her Toyota. It spit and spotter couldn't figure out why did some research and code reader sure enough. Except hers blew her fur on the ecm inigtion wouldnt aloow ittoo started so. Almost betting its the trottle body sensor. Messing everything up and all. Fixing too change mines in a day or so

Try taking the cover off of the steering wheel to expose the ignition switch, disconnect the wires going to the switch and put in some electrical grease, tighten up the connectors and put back together. This stopped my from shutting down. It took me a while to figure it out. Before I did this, I replaced my battery, starter, and it still didn't work and one of the workers at O'Reily's gave me the heads up.
