This was the best Daytona 500 ever in my opinion. It was full of ups and downs. And I liked the way the cars looked back then too. Lets be honest, Tony Stewart and Kurt Busch had the best cars and I felt bad for them when they wrecked. And it was heartbreaking for Martin when he was that close. I wanted Mark Martin to win too, but Kevin Harvick shouldn't just have to step aside. There was $1.5 million on the line and your name is in the list of Daytona 500 champions forever.

This race is a milestone for my life as a NASCAR Fan The year prior I became a NASCAR fan, my first NASCAR Race I saw was the July New Hampshire Busch Series race, my first Nextel Cup race was the Watkins Glenn race So this race was not only my first Daytona 500 but also the start of my first full NASCAR season. And unlike many other interests in my life that would come and go and after some time has passed I'll go back into it my interest in NASCAR never dwindled. Sure I followed some seasons closer than others but my interest in NASCAR has never left Going on 11 years

I've been watching more and more Gen 4 plate races, and really I quite enjoy it. Not as much as I enjoyed Gen-5 racing once teams started figuring out tandem-drafting (I honestly hated it when NASCAR tried to restrict what the drivers could do with that package, especially since it was actually safe to push through the corners with the Gen 5s given a good leader and pusher), but the style of racing wasn't as impure in my mind as it was in say, the 2009 Amp Energy 500.

Thats bullshit on the first comment, there was not a single fatality in the 2003-2007 car, they still use them in ARCA safely. The new car is safer, but its aero properties cause boring races. Another reason why we have tandem drafting is because the CoT bumpers line up. Not to mention the old car sounds way better, it was one of the main reasons why I watched plate races.

This makes my top 3 of all time best superspeedway driving. it takes hell of a lot of skill to keep that momentum going that long. and the driving by Harvick from 20 laps to go is just amazing to me.
