Great video bro. Same car as mine but I think you got a better model.

My 2008 Hyundai Sonata has the P0708 code, I changed the range sensor and changed the transmission fluid. Before I changed the range sensor and the fluid the car would jerk and slip when I put the car in reverse and the dash would show that the car is still in drive while it’s in reverse. The dash shift indicator also blinked when the car is on drive or reverse. Now after changing the fluid and the sensor the car is still slips while reversing and still shows the car is in drive while reversing and slips. And you can hear a ticking noise from the gear shifter. Could this be something more serious?

Did u ever figure out what to do to fix it
@xLaMarquis309 Жыл бұрын
@@israeldejesus95 I did what this guy did in the video, plus I changed my rear brake lights and the problem went away. I’m thinking my tail brake lights were causing the problem. I noticed one of my brake lights weren’t working that’s why I changed them.

Hey I have a question. I'm trying to disconnect the m40 cable. Do I just pull it? It doesn't seem to be budging.
@carmechanik12453 жыл бұрын
The connector won't come apart until the locking tab is released. The flexible part of the locking tab is on the connector housing that is towards the front of the car and is also the connector housing that is pulled off the fixed housing that is towards the back of the car. The flexible part of the locking tab needs to be lifted slightly so it clears the locking pin.

So...is the transmission range sensor just another term for the neutral safety switch?
@carmechanik12454 жыл бұрын
OBD-II dianostic codes use "Transmission Range Sensor", discount auto parts stores list the part as a "Neutral Safety Switch".

Do I have to disconnect my battery first?
@carmechanik1245 Жыл бұрын
The negative battery cable should be disconnected. Unplugging an electrical connector with energized wires can create transient voltages or spikes which can damage sensitive electronic components such as the Engine Control Module. Spraying electrical contact cleaner on live wires could create a short circuit which could also damage electrical parts.

Ive cleaned the m40 connector and it still have code 700 and 708
@carmechanik1245 Жыл бұрын
Try cleaning the M40 connector again and let dry thoroughly. The Hyundai service bulletin also says to, "check the rear combination lamp ground bolts for tightness and good electrical contact". It could also be shorted contacts in the switch. The primary reason the M40 connector becomes shorted is because someone spilled a drink and the liquid runs down into the connector below.

@@carmechanik1245 so this just happened to me I believe I spilled a bit of drink from a delivery I was making and now got code p0708 and am noticing my transmission is a bit off. I was gonna try cleaning the m40 connector but don't know after reading this comment.
@carmechanik1245 Жыл бұрын
@@vgomezz26 If you spilled a drink then it's likely the M40 connector is shorted. Cleaning the connector should eliminate the P0708 error code. If the P0708 error is eliminated and the transmission is still a bit off, it's likely there is a different problem with the transmission that is not related to the transmission range sensor.

you could have showed the location of the neutral safety switch :/
@carmechanik12456 жыл бұрын
The neutral safety switch is located near the battery. Remove the battery and the battery tray for access to the neutral safety switch.

Car Mechanik found it. Thanks. Turns out same issue as yours, connector was shorted. Buddy spilled 52 ounces of rootbeer on the shifter lol

Spilled drinks in the drink holder cause this to short out and malfunction.
