2007 Kia Sedona fuel pump replacement [EASY]

Bad sending unit on the fuel pump in this case we're just going to replace the whole fuel pump given its age

2007 sorento here. Trying to replace fuel pressure regulator. Dealership told me it's in fuel pump assembly. I spent half day looking under hood lol. I'm at the ring removal step but instead of air chisel I'm going to go buy the specialty tool for these rings. Thanks for posting vid

05 sorrento here. I need to change my fuel level sensor and the regulator. Decided replacing the whole pump was best. Wish I found this video before I spent 3 hours tapping like a crazy person. Ordered the tool and will be here Wednesday

It's a piece of a cake to open the cover ring with the right tool. You need this. "Genuine Hyundai 09310-2B200 Fuel Pump Plate Cover Wrench"

I got an Idea. But the tool uses it to hold the crankshaft bolt in place when you need it for replacing the timing belt. that tool has points like a screw that you insert inside those little holes and can lose the ring, or use little screws and put it in those little holes and use it as leverage

That locking ring looks identical to a kia soul,any tips on getting it started? I replaced the fuel pump on 2017 Kia soul and i could not get the ring on,after so many attempts, i installed it without the rubber ring/gasket that goes around the fuel pump and under the lock ring, ordered the lock ring tool to see if i can better apply even force while trying to thread it, i will attempt that tomorrow.

My gas gauge I think is not telling me truly how much gas is in the tank, it's not jumping around. But when I fill up at the station the pump clicks off even though I know that I need more than 2 or 3 gallons based on looking at where the gauge needle is. Perhaps this is the beginning of the pump going???

I have a 2005 with this same CA compliant pump. The ring was a bitch to get off. I used some Blaster to loosen and clean it , then I tapped for like a half hour in each hole going counterclockwise..... I accidently bought the non CA compliant pump (has 3 connectors and a different top. do you know if I can use this ? Otherwise, I just ordered another CA compliant pump (was cheaper) that has 2 connections and fits the ring.

Given that it's a fuel pump and we're talking about electrical connectors it could be different I would strongly recommend the correct part. It doesn't have to be Kia but it should at least be the right part. Good luck

It's not a good idea to bang on the ring with a steel hammer because it can produce a spark which is especially dangerous if you have just sprayed gasoline after disconnecting the fuel line without depressurizing it before hand. The ring removal tool is the way to go. It may be true that you were able to wash the sprayed gasoline off but if you actually are successful in removing the ring then you will have exposed all the gasoline in the tank to potential steel on steel sparks.

So you don't need to go all out like he did. Mine was on good and tight. Get a heavier hammer and a real punch NOT a screw driver. Hold the punch with some pliers so as to not worry about your hand and go to town. You may need some penetrating fluid if your's is rusty like that.. mine wasn't.. 122k miles and it was just dusty.

Thank you. I just replaced my filter. I have the same air chisel and it was off in seconds. Hammering by hand did nothing. You may want to save the fuel pump out of the assembly.

Yes there is. Someone else had commented on his video long ago stating that there is specifically a tool called fuel pump lock ring removal tool. I imagine it looks a lot like a spanner

it's really surprising that that ring didn't completely rust on there. if a single screw rust you can drill it out but if that whole ring rusted on there you'd be in big trouble you have to remove the tank.
