What happens when the alternator goes out? I have brand new battery but car will shut off and battery still Comes on

It could be the alternator but it could also be a dying battery or loose cable connection at the terminal. If you can't drive the car the easier way to figure out is to remove the battery and have it tested for free at your local Auto parts store. If the battery is bad then you found the problem. If the battery is good then it's most likely the alternator or loose cable
