Great video. In Australia they charge $3000-4000 for this replacement. I just replaced mine on a 2006 six-speed manual Mazda 3 but for RHD (Australia). For RHD it's a whole lot worse since you need to take the clutch pedal and clutch master cylinder out to gain the same level of access. The thing that took the most time was gaining access to the fourth upper mounting bolt on the clutch pedal. This bolt is buried behind the dash (approximately the same level as the steering wheel on the left). I ended up cutting a hole in the dash to gain access to this bolt. Once this bolt was out, the change was pretty much a mirror image of what you presented in this video (for RHD the blower motor is rotated 180 degrees).

I just fired my car up this morning and the blower, when set to 3 or 4, the whole dash shakes! Looks like I have a fun job ahead of me. The cabin air filter was a headache on its own haha

Thanks for the advice here! Here's my own step-by-step guide for the 2008. I don't know if on the 2008 they changed the electrical connector on the driver-side of the blower to be simpler than 2007, but mine was a simple push/pull connector. (Though it had been replaced once before in 2015.) Here's my steps. Remember when screwing into plastic if you go BACKWARDS first until it clicks/drops-in, and then proceed forward, you'll avoid re-cutting threads. Don't stress too much about this though. (I'm not sure anything here is actually into plastic? 🤔) 2008 Mazda 3 blower fan motor replacement 1. Pop off trim piece above glovebox, undo screws to remove glovebox (move glovebox light out of the way). 2. Undo two screws bottom right of glovebox holding a lower black trim piece in place, for needed clearance! 3. Undo electrical connector on black duct piece (I pushed in the white center with a screwdriver while pulling). 4. Undo three screws on black duct piece and wiggle it out, then fully out (I had the side with the electrical connection facing me, and the open end with the grate pointed up... but it was tight, even with the black trim below the glovebox area removed; I saw in a cabin air filter replacement video that the fusebox can drop? That would give even more room, though I think unnecessary?) 5. A black adapter shroud thing is just sitting against blower motor from this side, can/will fall off. (NOT SHOWN IN THIS VIDEO. 2008 only???) 6. From left arm painfully contorted driver's side, unplug vent hose, and electrical connection. 7. From same position, hold white latch on lock ring while rotating it counterclockwise a few inches until release. 8. Pull blower motor out from passenger side, wiggling a bit to get out. 9. Put new blower motor in from passenger side, get the hose connection facing the same way as before. It will just barely stay by itself in the correct orientation. 10. Put the shroud thing back on (the obstructed section toward the bottom), it will also just barely stay by itself if motor is in correct orientation. (If you have a second person they might be able to just HOLD the blower motor - press against the center - from passenger side while you use the lock ring from driver's side; that might be most reliable. Otherwise you'll have to use the passenger ductwork install to hold it as I did here...) 11. PRE-THREAD one screw in black ductwork (the one that is threaded). 12. Get the black ductwork piece back in the working area, and wiggle it back fully into position. it It will hold the shroud and motor in place. 13. From driver's side, with the latch of the white lock ring opposite the vent hose (electrical connection side), rotate it counterclockwise a few inches to lock. You'll feel/hear it go into place (I think with latch pointing up?). 14. Plug electrical connection back in to blower motor. 15. Reattach vent hose (I had to pull on it to get more slack and then it loosened up and I pushed it back in and it connected). 16. Back on the passenger side, reconnect electrical to black ductwork. 17. Put lower trim thing back, glovebox, glovebox light, upper trim, etc. Most difficult thing by far is reaching everything from driver's side, I put my left arm/elbow in as far as possible and then right hand under left elbow to lift it up further into position. Some say the electrical connection on the blower motor is the same type as on the black duct piece? Mine was much simpler, if it were the same style removing it would have been the most difficult step of all. Philosophy that "if it seems impossible you're probably doing something wrong" largely correct, i.e. it would have been nearly impossible to put the white lock ring on the blower motor without reinstalling all the passenger side ductwork first to hold the blower motor in position (or a second person's help); it will rotate and fall otherwise. I'm pretty competent fixing things; it took me 2 hours. If I had these steps (knew right away that from passenger side I needed to get the motor in place and shroud on and black duct on before fussing with the lockring from driver's side) I think I could have done it in 1h30m.

A tip to how to disconnect the fan electrical contact. The way I did it was by using a small angled torx allen key. I managed to insert the short end of it into the notch where the lock mechanism of the contact is located. Then I pushed it while at the same time pulling the contact. It worked but was not supereasy with only one hand. I pushed the Allen key with my middle finger while pulling the contact with my index and thumb. A better strategy may be to tape something short and pointed to your middle finger instead of using the allen key to push the contact lock. That will make it easier to push the contact lock while pulling the contact with index and thumb.

That blows... Air flow seems weak no matter what I've done in the past (replaced cabin filters, thoroughly cleaning condenser/compressor coils, vacuuming all air ports/etc...) But figured I might try lubricating/replacing blower motor, looks like a bitch like most a/c stuff in these cars but your video helps to know what to expect. Weak air flow is apparently a common complaint on these cars I've found.
@RogueWrenching Жыл бұрын
It's probably a tired blower motor. If your motor is worn out and drawing extra current, you may want to replace the motor and also the Blower motor resistor. Often, worn motors can burn the resistor out.

Pro tip for re-installing the black peice with 3 screws: The top screw hole over the grate is THREADED! So instead of dropping the screw into the grate a thousand times trying to re install it, you'll notice if you look at it, IT IS THE ONLY ONE THAT PRE-THREADS INTO THE HOLE ON THE BLACK SHROUD. If you do that before inserting under the dash, it is a million times easier to do.

That's an excellent tip, thank you!!!

The first box with the three screws was presented as a simple task. But yet, all the screws are removed blindly and the screw you called number one is deep and seemingly impossible to remove. And of course it seems more impossible to put them back if I happen to get them out.

I've been fixing cars professionally for 8 years, and this one is by far the most difficult blower motor I've ever had to do. I apologize if I made it seem easy as it was definitely not.

@@RogueWrenching Hey man, you responded quick. Thanks. I understand. I thought that must be the case that you have the experience and the tools. For me, there were lots of loud verbal expletives. I used a long extension and a wobble socket, but I broke it loose with a small 1/4" drive ratchet and a shallow socket. It's a pain and honestly leaving it out probably wouldn't hurt anything.

@@RogueWrenching yet another question. The electrical connector and the air tube. How is the elec connector released. Also did you just pry off the vent hose air tube? It looks like it’s hooked to something.

@Neal Widdifield vent tube pulls off. it's just a barb fitting. Electrical connector was an absolute pain. Once the lock ring is released, turn the motor so you can see the connector.

Yes, you need to buy Mazda 2014 or newer to avoid the Ford idiocy. My son's is a 2008 GT hatch, and I somehow missed that Ford was involved in Mazda for all that time! I told him to just keep driving it until the motor dies after watching this. Currently it works fine, just doesn't blow very hard, but it's been that way for several years now. We'll just order a new one off RockAuto so we have it on hand if/when it does, likely in the dead of our -45C Sask. winter...
